The only conclusion that can be made from this thread so far is that this is downright the most idiotic argument that I have ever been in on my 10+ years on this forum... and I've spent time in P&N. Throughout this whole silly debacle, I've been talking about one thing, you've been talking about another, and from your own inane rambling, you've managed to determine baseless "facts" about me, which by the way, I do not appreciate.

However, since I am as stubborn as an ox, I shall make one last attempt to sum up my original proposal with a rewording of a well-known silly saying:

"If a tweet is tweeted on the Twitter and no one is around to retweet it, does it make a splash?"

No, but this guy was an employee of Microsoft who probably had many followers. That's the whole point. Public figures in business simply cannot act the way he did.

I don't think the guy should have been fired. And despite sounding like a douche, I certainly don't have any personal problem with him. I don't know him, don't care to.

What you're essentially arguing, if I may, is that there shouldn't have been a backlash in the first place, correct? For the most part, I agree.
But what cm is saying, is that there was. Right or wrong, there was. And, subsequently, they got a lot of bad press about it. Fair or unfair, they did. Blogs, journals, articles, videos on youtube, etc. Bad press. From this incident, with this guy at the center, at a very critical time for MS.

So I can see, purely from MS's point of view, why they did it, even if it's not something we personally would have done in that position.

Pretty much. I can understand how people may not care for his tone or the way he phrases things, but at the end of the day... they're just relatively harmless words. Also, in regard to his tweet being an insight into Durango, my thoughts on that is that he's just a creative director (he may not have need-to-know in regard to XBOX Live integration), and nothing in his tweet is directed at anything Microsoft specific. In other words, I would probably give it a 3 out of 10 on a Rumor Rating scale. That's just my opinion though.

The thing is... I don't think I ever disagreed with that. I believe the confusion may have stemmed from how I recall saying something like, "I don't think he should have lost his job." I'm not saying that Microsoft had no right to come down on him, but rather that if the Internet didn't explode into a fit of rage over his tweets, he most likely would have had a normal day at the office. To be fair, I have to say "most likely", because it is a counter-factual argument, and I am technically making conjecture.

He was a dumbass to even comment on the topic. We already have reports and articles about how the next Xbox might be online only and clearly people are not happy about it. The worst thing you could do as a Microsoft employee is defend "always on" on twitter(public) when there are rumors going around that the next Xbox will be always online and people are pissed about it.

Within 24 hours the story just exploded because people were taking it as a confirmation of the rumors floating around about "always on" Xbox.

I understand what you mean man. It is what it is, but didn't he resign? Isn't that the official statement on this? I cannot find the links that mentioned it.
