Interesting if true. Didn't MS lose money on the original XBox and the 360? Why won't they this time? Will it just not be as big of a step in power? The link is blocked here, so if any of my questions are answered in the link, sorry

eh, if they are going to be making it cheaper in hopes that more people will also buy kinect with it (as in kinect is going to be the primary focus), i'm going to be skipping the xbox720.

This. Absolutely. Same for the PS4 and the Move.

doubt that is going to happen with PS4, sony has pretty much already abandoned the move.

they've also pretty much abandoned the six axis functionality.

As long as the next XBOX is appropriately powerful for a next-gen system and the Kinect continues to be an add-on, then I'm not really worried about anything. It'll still have all the games that I want.

they probably decided the model was not very sustainable as a business proposition.

I just want to know if they are using Blu-Ray, or if I am going to have to switch discs next generation.

This. I'm not really worried about the Kinect stuff. MS knows where their bread and butter is. I doubt they'd mess that up.

I occasionally play online, but not often enough to justify the cost of Xbox Live. Combine that with the lack of good exclusives (it's pretty much Halo + Gears + Forza) and overpriced proprietary accessories and there's no way I'm buying another Xbox. The only reason I've kept mine is I already have a bunch of games for it and it would cost too much to swap it out for a PS3.

Sounds like they're dropping AMD chips for graphics, and they're not going with nVidia stuff either. This could be bad for it's performance ...

LOL, it sounds it like they are using both, or one or the other or neither. It's a speculation article about a blog .

The OG Xbox lost money. The 360 is profitable now in part thanks to LIVE.

I take from this rumor that the next Xbox is going to take a page from Nintendo's Wii-U - namely being a slightly updated system from the 360...

Nope, completely different, with ARM based processors to reduce cost. Something like a Zune HD.

But 360 lost money per console during the initial sales too I'm sure.

Yes, it was... but I'm pretty sure in the long run they've made a ton of money, especially as later generations of 360s were profitable to sell and xbox live memberships increased.

Colour me skeptical... A smaller, cheaper Xbox these days would seem to be keeping the status quo.... Just a bit better than what is out now, but not a step up....

How does the current xbox processor compare to say arm a9 processors anyway?

This would be my primary gripe with the xbox360 as well. JRPGs are also almost non existent.

This describes me as well. I had 2 XBL subscriptions and let both expire because I didn't play games online and there is no way I am going to way for the privilege of using Netflix on the Xbox. That, and the constantly dying hardware (I've had 4 or 5 360s) made me buy a PS3 which I've been impressed with. If not for the fact that my brothers have Xboxes and we do like to play sports games together, I'd only buy games for the PS3.

Sorry MS, but you blew it with your overpriced accessories, unreliable hardware, and ridiculous XBL costs and policies. If I buy a console next generation, I'm likely going with a PS4.

ARM is a curious choice. In theory, the Cortex-A15 quad core is faster than the Xenon, at 35,000 MIPS vs. 19,200. Though it still lags behind the latest crop of x86 processors.

I think we will see a move to consoles using off-the-shelf parts. The custom hardware in the PS3 and 360 proved enormously cost prohibitive.
