That's not exactly what happened. It was a news crew performing a live interview when an off-camera assailant apparently walked up behind the cameraman and opened fire on them at close range. The video is largely bloodless and completely gore-free. I think the real horror of it is in the suddenness of the changeover from a mundane, forgettable interview on local news to complete pandemonium. It's just something few people have probably seen the like of. It really drives home the adage about "you never know when your number is going to come up".

In other words: a horrible act.

The question I am wondering is how the person they are interviewing (who is clearly facing the shooter) did not see the gun in plain view. In the video, he holds it up and aims... But seems to hesitate a few seconds before putting it back up and firing. Those few seconds would have been plenty of time to react, but obviously didn't. It just seems to me that it (the gun being in view) would almost be obvious rather than questionable.

You missed the fact that he uploaded his video to his Twitter account

Oh really? Yeah I did miss that. Once again, fuck that guy.

Edit: Ok I found that video. Holy shit. I really want this guy to die now.

He just seems so casual about it. Walking up, holding the gun, lowering in. Aiming carefully. Pop pop.

They're in the middle of a performance in live TV. It's like being on stage but you can't see anybody in the crowd because of the lights and being focused on your performance.

Being he had done that job before, he probably KNEW that he could walk right up to them and they wouldn't notice at first.

Adding to what others said, people are horrible at noticing what is around them especially when they're distracted like she is.

I'm guessing he didn't mean to shoot her. I did not watch the video and don't intend to, but given how close she was with the other two it would have been a miracle if she came out of it completely unscathed.

how is he law abiding? he had intent and actually did murder 2 people and injured a third.

Everyone is law abiding right up to the point where they break the law. Nothing has come to light saying he had a criminal background or that he hadn't purchased the gun he used legally so until something changes I'm going to assume he was just your average law abiding gun owner.

Being a miserable ****really does suit you.

Dial it back. You're the one who's trolling.

That's the biggest problem when idiots and sick f**ks have easy access to guns. Thinking is not required to pull a trigger and the rate of fire/reload time means there's little reaction time for the intended victim to defend themselves. He probably didn't even think about eliminating witnesses--had had rounds to spare so why the fuck not?

Think about the terrorist attack on the French train over the weekend. The terrorist had an AK-47 but apparently didn't know how to operate it. If he had been half-way competent it'd be a completely different story than "3-4 guys save a train". The terrorist switched to a knife, which gave plenty of reaction time for the servicemen to take him down.

I still think it's weird that we have more restrictions in place governing the use of motor vehicles than we do guns. Everyone I know fumes about the possibility of getting hit by an uninsured/underinsured motorist, or assholes driving around with suspended licenses. Why not at least require a registration and insurance for semi-automatic weapons? All because of the NRA and the 2nd amendment.
