Ignorant statement , they belonged in all 50 states until settlers drove them out.

The settlers drove them out because they are not capable of co-existing with humans.

Wolves are not stupid. They quickly figure out pets and livestock are much easier then hunting deer. Given time they will add children to the list.

The fancy name is depredation, but when a person has their pet eaten, they have a different name for it. A less scientific name.

That is a reason those hunters in Wisconsin are so highly motivated. They are not hunting wolves for the "joy" of the hunt, but for revenge and a burning hatred. You can sit on your high horse all you want, but for the people effected they are not going to let this problem go, they are not going give up, and they definitely are never going to agree with you.

You need a different approach. The politics on this issue is swinging hard against the wolves. As wolves move into urban areas it will go bipartison.

Incorrect on all counts, unfortunately. There is literally no evidence of major cattle depredation by wolves let alone pets and kids, and the hunters in this case were mostly from out of state so your argument falls flat on it's face.
About coexistence - the settlers invaded the home of native Americans and the wildlife that existed and mercilessly brought it to the point of extinction, who did the bison hunt that they butchered 65 million of them? So it was the settlers who were clearly incapable of coexistence and their Trump loving progeny still are.
As for politics, it's a small rabid mostly poorly educated redneck/republican minority that wants wolves gone, majority of the US population wants native wildlife restored and in fact Colorado just passed a measure to specifically bring back wolves.

Not a vegan at all. When when looks at where wolves live and where beef/lamb production is economically viable, one finds very little overlap. The "kill the wolves to save the beefs" is bullshit to excuse brutality on the part of welfare ranchers who contribute damn near nothing to food production while trashing ecosystems and sucking at the public tit.

Interesting point, that I'd upvote if only I knew enough about the topic to know whether it's definitively true or not. Certainly sounds plausible given what one sees of how farming subsidies tend to work out in practice.

The numbers don't work for me.
They wanted to kill 200 Wolves.
They killed 219 Wolves.

How is it that 219 is over 82% of the target of 200?

To get 82% over wouldn't they have killed 364 Wolves?

Not only did you fail math, you failed reading comprehension too.

First of all, they killed 216 wolves.

Secondly, quote from article:
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) had aimed to harvest 200 wolves with “an objective of stabilizing the population,” according to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Native American tribes, who considered the wolves sacred and used their quota to protect the animals, claimed a quota of 81, which left 119 wolves for licensed hunters and trappers.

Use of terms like 'harvest' equates these beautiful sentient family oriented creatures to crops and is morally repugnant. Only way I see out of the status quo is the suit brought by groups like defenders of wildlife and center for biological diversity (one kick ass environmental group). The new interior secretary, Deb Haaland, has spoken for expanding ESA protections but her hands might be tied by wildlife hating DINOs like Jon Tester. She could, however, instruct the DoI lawyers to not actively challenge the lawsuit, achieving the same end result...or at least one can hope.

OK I typed 219 instead of 216... and didn't see where the Native Americans used their 81 to subtract from the "harvest".

Why do you feel the need to be an @SS about it?

My bad for assuming that you actually read the article. It's not that long of a read, but it appears you made a response before even bothering to read the article. That's even more egregious.

Huh? 9 out of 10 hunters are registered Republicans and Republican states have the most egregious wildlife 'management' policies , this hunt was forced by Republicans from another state filing suit in WI...wtf

That's sounds a lot like that "9 out of 10" statistics that are made up on the spot.

According to a national poll, 42 percent of hunters and fishers are Republicans, versus 32 percent as independents and 18 percent as Democrats. In terms of ideology, 50 percent consider themselves conservative, 37 percent moderate, and 10 percent liberal.

Anyone still independent in today's world is just a closet Republican, so thanks for correcting me, it's 8 out of 10
Also, most high profile wildlife murderers are Republicans, Darth Cheney who shot hundreds of birds a day, Drumpf's wasted seeds that kill elephants and lions with glee..

Seems that Republican is something you become when your way of life is unconscionable.

If wolves were smart, they'd do what the foxes here have done, and relocate to the cities, as all sensible creatures do.
Lol funny comment, why do you think there are millions of domesticated 'canis lupus' across the globe? You probably have one within shouting distance
