lol yes, they are. The days of the Lenny Dykstras, Al Leiters, John Francos and John Rockers of the world ruling baseball with their opinions are over.
lol John Rocker? The guy who said he wouldn't play in NYC due to all the queers, fags, and foreigners? That's not conservatism, that's just straight out being an asshole.
Social media, especially in sports and locker rooms won't allow it. Any athlete with a rightwing view will be looked at differently,
Yes, Tim Tebow was famously ousted for his outspoken right wing views while Colin Kaepernick was met with widespread acclaim.

People were far more accepting of Tebow's politics despite the fact that he sucked as a quarterback and Kaep was actually good.
especially in a locker room that is minority-dominated...
Why are you so obsessed with race? I thought this was about conservatism.

Hm, which of their right-wing views is it that are problematic with minorities? Is it deregulation? Is it lower taxes for the wealthy? Maybe something else?

I'm pretty sure the days of Lenny Dykstra, Al Leiter, John Franco and John Rocker ruling baseball with their opinions never happened at all.
Dykstra is a staunch far rightwinger like Rocker......Conservatism does not equate to racism but far rightism tends to....Dykstra was accused of racism by his teammate Ron Darling:

Leiter is a staunch Republican and many people in Tennessee, Florida, New York and New Jersey have approached him asking him to run for U.S. Senate, a House seat or Governor. He smartly declined and donates to Republicans regularly....celebrities have numerous homes all over the place, like Herschel Walker, so it makes it hard for them to settle.

Franco is a patriotic guy, he has a very polished image as a working-poor Brooklynite who doesn't forget where he came from, he came from public housing, but worked his way up to be a good reliever pitcher for the Mets who went to the playoffs in 1999 and 2000......he played pretty well in the 2000 World Series....

Those guys don't approve of kneeling during the US national anthem or distracting from the singing of the anthem....a lot of white athletes are patriotic, or see themselves as that, or were raised to respect the anthem, the flag, etc. since they are American symbols that are sacred.

All those little factoids have absolutely nothing to do with any of them ruling baseball with their opinions in the past. .

TIL minorities can't be patriotic.
In the eyes of some rightwingers yes...

Muhammad Ali, Louis Farrakhan, Jeremiah Wright, Colin Kapernick, Spike Lee's rhetoric over the past decades haven't helped minorities be seen as "part of the American club" like whites are.

There's nothing wrong with criticizing your nation, but to a lot of conservatives, it's seen as disrespectful or anti-American, especially American conservatives.

American conservatives see America as The Greatest Country in the World, The Grandest of Them All, and it is your duty as an American, even a Black American in the 1950s and 1960s, yes, even under oppression to still appreciate what this country has to "offer"....

Kaepernick's explanation for why he knelt during the anthem was going to upset "patriotic" rightwingers, because in their eyes, America can't do any wrong:

"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."

Baseball is historically conservative-leaning, that was my point. Probably one of the reasons why baseball has fallen out of the cultural conscience since the '94 strike....despite the fact that MLB's player demographic fits America's future demographic: more Latino-dominated....

More likely because it's boring and stupid. Much like you!

It's pretty clear the shithole red states have more than enough shitheads and morons to elect sports dbags into office - see Tubervilile winning and Herschel almost winning.

But this is about California, not a shithole state full of MAGA trash, so that's why this thread is fucking dumb as shit.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

- CA resident.

The CA primary is awful, and getty is right, it is possible this person could make to the final round and be elected senator. We all know this. Because of this possibility the party settles the matter internally, and issues directives accordingly. This reinforces the power of the party, which nobody likes. It results in people like Gavin being elected. And Feinstein being elected long after she should be primary-ed out.

If there is any question of this person being a threat the issue will be settled before voting begins. If someone holds out, the party will pick a winner, and that will be that.

But, we all know it would be 1000x worse for this person to be elected. Party infighting will never exceed our burning hatred for everything republicans represent these days. The candidates will sift themselves out before voting happens if there is any risk.

We get mailed ballets, and then it is just a matter of going online, looking up the recommendations, and filling out the ballet accordingly.

Then don’t be racist. Nobody will talk shit about a player who wants tax cuts for the rich they will just disagree with them for being self interested

These same white patriotic athletes are cool with trashing our POWs just because they were captured.

I submit to you those white athletes are a bunch of lying phonies

Thanks for this thread, OP. Now I can write my congress people to ask them if they know why Russia is clearly financing Steve Garvey's campaign.

Racist tries to tell us in one post that it isn't their virulent racist thoughts, but their politics that people hate them for, by arguing very explicitly that it is clearly racism.

I mean, the entire point of this Russian account is to keep the conversation eternally trapped on two subjects:

1: Trump
2: Racial animus.

You can't create a more specific Russian troll account to poison the water. It's all they do. Can we at least get a water stamp on all of Getty's posts that point out that he is a Russian internet troll that is simply running through his talking points to distract actual humans from having normal conversations?
