Now that I've had a chance to watch the full video, I agree with his premise. I would like to the United States to move towards a single payer system, gradually over time to smooth the transition out. The government would need to actually bring some teeth to the negotiating table on prices though. It is only anecdotal, but I know a few people who were pounding the table on repealing the ACA. None of them seem particularly pleased with the current bill as is though. Personally, I feel like the ACA has shortcomings that should be addressed, rather than blowing it all up and starting over. That millions gained insurance should be a win that is built on, with the other issues being addressed from there.

And holy crap. I don't recall seeing an elected official dressed down so epically. The guy ranting duplicated and confused some points, but in the end he was more than right and said what millions are thinking and feeling.

Thanks for coping with the fact I missed a key inclusion of the word not. Personally, I'm not sure there was really anything good the congressman could have said, but that might be my own bias. I kinda just wanted to know what the going excuse was. I guess I'll have to wait. I did want to see some good, honest composure from the congressman, addressing some of the opposing viewpoints. I might not have agreed with the things he said, but I would have respected the delivery of those points, assuming they weren't batshit fucking insane. If they did make a good point, I would have had to reevaluate everything obviously. I'm open to being wrong and having to re-evaluate, I'm not sure that would have happened, but the opportunity is nice.

One of the largest private insurance companies is HCSC and it covers around 15 million people. You may have heard over another insurance provider...it's called Medicare and it covers about 45 million people. And that one is run by the federal government.

The guy's statement kind of addressed the likely response. MacArthur in the past talked about both this mother and daughter who died from cancer as shaping his views on healthcare. The guy giving him grief said that he learned the wrong lessons from their losses if he can defend the bill that he voted for, which given the drastic reductions in coverage it will cause seems like a pretty accurate assessment to me.

Here's the essence of the problem: the modern Republicans are gutting health care without a viable replacement waiting in the wings. Whether or not you think private health care beats government programs, you just can't yank out something like Obamacare without having a replacement that actually accommodates those who couldn't otherwise afford insurance. Either provide strong incentives to private companies so that they take care of these people, or admit that government-backed programs can work and take them seriously. The AHCA does neither -- it's all about scoring political points and pandering to insurance companies (not to mention the wealthy).
