AGAIN, as someone else already linked to, the fan was added on and allowed. It was not against the rules.

Scott comes out looking horrible and his people flying the "its against the rules" when it was allowed make it worse. This is going to be a close race and things like that can swing it just enough to really matter.

Yeah, I missed the link that the rule was no electronics and he specifically agreed if he could have a fan. I guess the moderator saying that no fans were allowed kinda added to that belief that Christ broke the rules.

In either circumstance, Scott definitely comes out looking worse.

People in Florida must be idiots. Can't believe it's even close. Scott should be in jail.

Well Obama should be arrested and deported

The irony here is the OP, who is a NK supporter. Talk about the pot and kettle.

They both are dumb. Scott for obvious reasons. Crist could have easily ended it when challenged by following the rules and forgoing the stupid fan. He's just as much to blame for making this a story.

Trying to take sides on this makes anyone look like a complete tool.

No only a partisan hack would see it your way. Crist did follow the rules as the fan was allowed. Scott, and now his people, just look like whinny babies.

But again, why let facts get in your way.

Our problems must be solved if we are going to debate fan or no fan in this country.

Charlie Crist Has Used A Fan To Rattle Debate Opponent Before
Posted: 10/15/2014 10:16 pm EDT Updated: 10/15/2014 10:59 pm EDT

WASHINGTON -- Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) almost refused to participate in a debate Wednesday night when his opponent, former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (D) brought a small fan onstage. Scott eventually agreed to participate, but he might not have known that Crist has tried the tactic to rattle debate opponents before.

In August 2006, Crist reportedly also brought a fan onstage during a debate during the Republican gubernatorial primary. Crist’s opponent, Tom Gallagher objected to Crist having the fan onstage. (Crist was then a Republican, but then became an independent in 2010, before becoming a Democrat in 2012.)

"That's not fair," Gallagher told the moderators of the debate, according to the Tampa Bay Times. "Get another fan in here or I'm walking out." The Times reported that debate organizers found another fan and each of the candidates took turns standing in front of it as they spoke.

Staying cool in Florida also seems to have long concerned Crist. In 2008, the Orlando Sentinel reported that he took a small fan with him when he traveled.

A fan is a huge advantage in a political debate. It helps the candidate smoothly oscillate between positions.

Personally, I think bringing a paddleball to play with while your opponent is speaking would be the best.

^ LOL x 2. I would think that the fan would help clear some of the smoke out as well. Would make it harder to tell.

At first, I was thinking, maybe it's sort of like that Van Halen m&m thing - their contract stated the dressing room had to have a bowl of m&m's, and all the brown ones had to be removed.

On the surface, and to the average person, something petty like that makes the band look like idiots. However, by putting that into the contract, it allowed them a very quick check as to whether or not they should be concerned by the promoter following the contractor. That is, if there were no brown m&m's, it was indicative that the promoter probably followed every detail in the contract. But, if there were brown m&m's, then they had cause for concern to wonder what other parts of the contract make have been overlooked.

However, if this was the governor's reasoning - that he was concerned over other problems given something that petty, delaying the debate 7 minutes to verify that all the other more important rules were being followed, might seem reasonable to some people. Unfortunately, I don't think the majority of people would quite understand this; to them, he looks petty & it hurts his chances of reelection.

ya got the wrong governor.

Duly noted. I have slapped myself silly, washed out my mouth to get rid of the foot odor (here in Hawaii we don't wear shoes) and have put myself on alert for future brain farts.

Would have been badass if walked out and smashed the guy's fan and then got down to business.

From reading the Tampa Bay Times and other sources, here's what Ive gleaned:
-Crist is known for having fans under the podium, even going back to his first gubernatorial debate in 2006. When he was governor, one of the conditions he had when appearing at public events was to have the AC cranked up.
-Banning fans at debates is not 'standard'. Apparently Scott's people have a problem with him using a fan and threatened to boycott last Friday's Telemundo debate if Crist got to use one. It appears this 'rule' is nothing more than a tactic.

Scott's administration is all about eliminating unnecessary regulations except when they want them. Watch the full debate on C-SPAN - its clear that Scott needed all the help he could get, stumbling over his words and struggling to put together coherent sentences at times.
