I have an interesting idea. And I wonder what you guys think.

We mandate car insurance to drive. And we include a tax break for money spent on health insurance. So lets combine the idea. If you buy health insurance it is directly deducted from the tax you owe, no from your gross but from your tax. This would mean that if you choose not to buy insurance you will have to pay the goverment the money anyway.
Sure the truely poor would not benefit but if you meet that criteria, you should be eligible for medicaid.
This makes buying insurance a no-lose proposition. You may need to put limits on the total so that everyone doesnt go out and buy the cadillac plans.
The tough part is you will have to regulate the insurance industry so as not to cause a greedy bubble effect similiar to the housing market event. I doubt any politician R or D has the balls to go after the insurance industry.

And lastly I will say again, decouple insurance from employement - totally. Make group discounts illegal and open up health insurance the same as auto insurance.

The argument used against obamacare is that car insurance is necessary because you can kill someone with your car but you cannot kill someone with your health.

I disagree. Just look at the many examples of health care being neglected just to cost more money down the road.

This leaves less money down the road for other people's health care which effectively puts people in jeopardy.

Huh?

Car insurance is a state issue. New Hampshire for instance doesn't require liability insurance.

What does that have to do with the authority granted to the federal government by the Constitution?

Audience at tea party debate cheers leaving uninsured to die

If you're uninsured and on the brink of death, that's apparently a laughing matter to some audience members at last night's tea party Republican presidential debate.

Texas Rep. Ron Paul, a doctor, was asked a hypothetical question by CNN host Wolf Blitzer about how society should respond if a healthy 30-year-old man who decided against buying health insurance suddenly goes into a coma and requires intensive care for six months. Paul--a fierce limited-government advocate-- said it shouldn't be the government's responsibility. "That's what freedom is all about, taking your own risks," Paul said and was drowned out by audience applause as he added, "this whole idea that you have to prepare to take care of everybody …"

"Are you saying that society should just let him die?" Blitzer pressed Paul. And that's when the audience got involved.

Several loud cheers of "yeah!"

Conservative Andrew Sullivan writing for The Daily Beast's The Dish Tuesday noted that the United States obligates society to save someone in an emergency room.

"America has a law on the books that makes it a crime not to treat and try to save a human being who walks into an emergency room, the GOP wants to revisit it, they can."

Your bleeding heart has caused oxygen supply to brain to be cut off leading to brain cell degeneration.

In your example the man was 30 years old . The hospital foots the bill . and the man who recovered has 40 years to pay for the hospitals life saving care . Lack of insurance doesn't remove your ability to work after recovery . I sure would like to know what you pay in taxes every year. It can't be much as your online all the time . I am a;lso but I am retired and have plenity of insurance that WE pay for . NO US government aid other than what was promised ./

Also that law you speak of doesn't apply to we the people or the gobberment . But to the Staff and hospital were said patient visits . Grow some balls and face life without gobberment crutch

Aren't you on disability? I am tired of so many 30-40 year old retirees that got some doctor to declare them unfit to work.

You say 'what was promised'...I am taking that you are getting much more than social security.

However, I think we as a nation should not be expected to go above and beyond for the poor anymore. If someone can show they could pay back the 'cost of care' so be it.

The biggest issue I really have is so many of these welfare cases get stabilized and sent on their way only to return with a lawsuit that they should have gotten better care or that if they were more wealthy they would have gotten better care.

And you lefties will never understand that government != society.

That is the root of where you all have gone wrong in your philosophy.

If society had a foolproof way of providing for the sick, elderly, and disabled, then we wouldn't be having these discussions. Charity has its place, no doubt, but it is not sufficient. There was a time in America when charity was all that these groups had. It is not something that we want to go back to. The government's effects on the reduction in poverty and increase in care for these groups are much more significant than many opposing these programs want to admit. Government is a means to an end for a society to reach its goals, not an end in and of itself. That is what many conservatives seem to forget nowadays (Conservatives weren't always like this though..).

Republicans criticize tax on millionaires idea

Republican leaders on Sunday criticized President Barack Obama's proposal for a new tax on millionaires, calling it "class warfare"

Paul Ryan, chairman of the House of Representatives Budget Committee, and Mitch McConnell, Senate Republican leader, said the proposal would limit growth and hurt corporate investment in an already stagnating economy.

"It adds further instability to our system, more uncertainty and it punishes job creation and those people who create jobs," Ryan said on Fox News Sunday. "Class warfare may make for good politics but it makes for rotten economics."

Hey dickwads, you bet your ass it's "class warfare".

and where are the jobs all this time you so called "job creators".

Take your "limit growth and hurt corporate investment" and stick it up your collective asses.

If you don't like it, all of you can leave the country.

The U.S. Attorney General recently said that the health care industry is the most corrupt industry in America.

The hospital is footing the bill for more and more people simple because people cannot afford their rates!!!!!!

My mom was overcharged by Sutter hospital for $150,000 to cover for cost of the uninsured visits to the E.R.

Sutter Hospital was sued for the overcharging to cover the uninsured but settled for a fraction of the actual overcharges.

There are millions who don't have insurance not by choice but because the insurance is too damn expensive.

The health care industry is corrupt with greed and power and do more harm than good in America.

He's bitching about "class warfare" in rhetoric. We already have class warfare in pracatice, where multi-millionares pay a lower effective tax rate then their assistants
