Let me express the general sentiment of those cheering in the simplest of terms-

I got mine! I got my employer paid health insurance, I got my Medicare, so those of you who don't should just fuck off & die! I might piss on your head if your hair was on fire, but I'm not giving up jack shit!

Let me express the general sentiment of Dems' base in the simplest of terms-

I don't have anything other than four kids of whom I don't know the fathers! I don't have a job because I never made anything of myself and I have no marketable skills! I might steal your wallet in the street, and I EXPECT my EBT card to be charged on the first of the month so I can withdraw cash to get my cigs and booze!

Ok, now the last two are just being annoyingly stupid.

BLITZER: … you’re a physician, Ron Paul, so you’re a doctor. You know something about this subject. Let me ask you this hypothetical question.

A healthy 30-year-old young man has a good job, makes a good living, but decides, you know what? I’m not going to spend $200 or $300 a month for health insurance because I’m healthy, I don’t need it. But something terrible happens, all of a sudden he needs it.

Who’s going to pay if he goes into a coma, for example? Who pays for that?
Yes let's use the wealthy well off strawman to make it look like the reason the uninsured don't have health insurance is because they choose not to.

Sorry the real reason health insurance is out of reach for most working people who make too much for welfare but are one heart attack away from financial ruin is because of the price.

by telling these people that they must buy health insurance or else without some minimum requirements enforced by the government,

will cause most to buy the cheapest plan possible only to find out how worthless it is when they try to use it.

See this is the end result of capitalism when you take the idea self interest to the extreme.

Some people get the death penalty so that other people can live. Who decides who lives or dies then? This is the insanity of capitalism and the real reason this country is falling apart.

Here's a link to an article Einstein wrote in 1949 called Why Socialism?:

http://monthlyreview.org/2009/05/01/why-socialism

"The economic anarchy of capitalist society as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of the evil. We see before us a huge community of producers the members of which are unceasingly striving to deprive each other of the fruits of their collective labor—not by force, but on the whole in faithful compliance with legally established rules. In this respect, it is important to realize that the means of production—that is to say, the entire productive capacity that is needed for producing consumer goods as well as additional capital goods—may legally be, and for the most part are, the private property of individuals."

And again, this has nothing to do with the thread, people just wanna argue this point over and over again cuz lord knows we sure as hell dont do it enough here in Anands P&N.

I think I know why congress never gets anything accomplished.

Your post fairly oozes false attribution & denial. Just thought you might want to know.

Which is it Shorty?

1. Main-stream Republicans don't follow the idea of everyone for themselves - hence Romneycare and Perry's praising of Hillarycare... and the passing of Medicare-D
or
2. Outsider Republicans want everyone without means to fend for themselves...

Where do you stand?

It's certainly more than one, you can hear it on the video yourself. While the audience as a whole didn't cheer, it's still easily the most disgusting episode I've ever seen at any debate. Then again, they sort of asked for it by having it be a 'tea party' debate, as that was basically guaranteed to gather together the most ideological and most poorly educated parts of the Republican base all in the same room.

Yet another post showing why I named Fern as the "biggest apologist on the forum."

Sad.

Weak sauce! I disagree with this.....

You are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts. And the fact is that Ronald Reagan signed the law that requires ER's to treat people regardless of their ability to pay.

Taken in context, Dr Paul is absolutely right.... for people trying to take this out of context, go suck a bag of dicks

Straw man much? Going right back to the OP, the criticism is of the audience response, not Paul's answer. Many of us no doubt disagree with his answer as well, but it's not been the focus of the thread.

But since you bring this up, his comment that back in the day before Medicaid the doctors just treated everyone is a problem. If that is truly what happens every time someone is uninsured in the "free market" system he advocates, then we're all paying for the uninsured anyway, so why not just have government insurance?

This whole social darwinian idea that people have to make their choices and live with the consequences is just as incompatible with charity as it is with government programs. A handout is a handout. No matter how it takes place, the person who made the bad choice is being rescued from the consequences.

this is the difference between you and a decent human being. i don't want him to die, but i would pay my share to make sure he lives. i love Ron Paul. he is a true American hero.

Well I don't really want him to die. He should get all the help he needs and then some. He just needs to pay for it himself and I dont want to pay for him.

I say enough strange things on my own, why must others invent quotes from me?

Why pay any attention to me at all?

What if he can't because he lost his job? What if he can't because he makes minimum wage?

You and Lithium are pieces of shit.

That's exactly what i was saying, i disagree that they SHOULD have to, not that they do have to and the fact that RR made it so....

If he had no job then what can we do. The insurance company will take a hit and our rates would go up and in the end we would be forced to pay for his sorry ass anyways.

If he had any job with minimum wage he can pay something for 20 years for all I care.

I am friends with twins who's parent didn't have insurance when they had them and it took them 18 years to pay it off. Sometimes lifes a bitch, just gotta deal with the hand you have.

While we're making generalities, i guess all liberals are like the ACORN thugs from a couple years ago...

Cmon, lets get real and past the political grandstanding that is just becoming so prolific nowadays that i dont see how anything gets accomplished. There are serious issues that need serious thought and debate. A few yokels with a few in then, shouldnt be driving the subject matter for the last 24+ hours.

Yep, give 'em a good deal on a loan, but make 'em pay it back. Personal responsibility. Someone asked why we're using the 30 year old well - to -do guy... a strawman. How about the cronic crack addicts? Give them free healthcare too? That's not an accident like the guy who chose not to buy health insurance...... it's a choice to do the hard drugs.....

You're welcome to your opinion, it's just in the extreme, ultra right wing minority. Not only that, but how can you force him to pay? He's already gotten the service. You going to start garnishing wages? Even if he did pay on it for 20 years, he would be paying far less in the end due to inflation so you're hit anyway.

Basically your idea is terrible for all the same reasons our current system is terrible.
