1972, Nixon begins Watergate, gets caught, RECESSION ENSUES:
http://recession.org/history/1970s-oil-crisis/
This makes sense because the Repubs knew the American public was outraged with them so the strategy is cause a Recession during Ford's tenure in order to sabatoge the economy during the Dem President that was sure to be elected. Then, of course, hire a PR guy to run on the economy platform, enter Reagan.

1992 Bush voted out for lying about taxes, RECESSION ENSUES:
http://www.time.com/time/covers/0,16641,19920113,00.html
^^^We almost voted in Ross Perot after that little fiasco. The writing was on the wall, once again America was pissed at the Repubs because they felt Bush lied to them. So create a Recession to sabatoge Clinton's administration. To their dismay, Clinton proved to be too charismatic for them to stop and only a sexual transgression could bring him down.

2008 Bush 2.0 leaves White House after 2nd term after the entire economy almost collapsed on his watch, RECESSION ENSUES:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Late-2000s_recession
Bush and his banker pals in Government Goldman destroy the economy right before his 2nd term is up, after spending absurd amounts of money and creating a massive debt. Knowing they could never win the election this once again seemed to be too perfect timing for the Repubs and now they once again are running on the economy.

I have to wonder why we even allow these people in our government anymore. It's so obvious and ridiculous that it is shocking that so many people defend this activity.

I am shocked that nobody even notices these things. I've found some writings that point to it but I would rather not link to anything because, quite frankly, I don't need someone else to think for me. It was very easy to find this information and I decided this morning to just go look up when Recessions have happened over the past 40 years, and was shocked to find this information.

Convenient for you to leave out the recession that started right after Clinton.

I left it out because it is hard to find a trend of recessions with the exit of Dems. Usually, there is a magical boost in the economy when a Dem goes out of the Oval Office over the last 40+ years.

Gee, I wonder why that could be....

Someone once told me the Republicans would refuse to raise the debt ceiling causing the US to get its credit rating lowered just to hurt Democrats.

"I refuse to believe Republicans hate America and are such traitorous bastards that they would acually do that."

Ronald Reagan 1988
(not really, but you get my point)

You posted that in the other thread. You left out Carter's recession.

As I pointed out, the Recession so many are falsely lead to believe happened on Carter's watch actually peaked in late 1982 during the middle of Ronnie's first term. Far after Carter was long gone.

The early 1980s recession describes the severe global economic recession affecting much of the developed world in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The United States and Japan exited recession relatively early, but high unemployment would continue to affect other OECD nations through at least 1985

I don't know how to tell you this, but I don't think you are a Republican......

You know, I don't really care anymore. Every Republican I have ever known is a selfish, bloated, egotistical, self-aggrandizing, demented fuckwad prick anyways. I would gladly join a revolution to overthrow our government just so we could reset back to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

What we have done with this country is nothing short of a crime and a travesty.

We have turn the world's strongest market into a nation of debt payers. It's pathetic.

You know what, I just don't care anymore period. There is nothing I can do about it and I will probably get arrested and framed for the next mass shooting for posting this, so I am out.

You guys have fun.

The peak was in 82, by definition it started in 81 well before even the first Reagan budget. Even wikipedia claims it started in the late 70's.

I'm generally more open to conspiracy theories than most, but this is totally bogus.

In any event, they're both responsible and recessions are necessary. Recessions happen when there is a reduction in GDP and both the market and the govt determine GDP, although the market eventually wins out. We actually need another recession because GDP needs to go way down due to the currently excessive levels of public spending and because prices need to fall.

Bah, false equivalence for the lose.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that Republicans engineer recessions to stall Dem presidents. It would make for an interesting political-intrigue novel though. However, they certainly have no incentive to alleviate the symptoms or address the underlying causes of one until another Republican is in the white house. We've all seen how the tea publicans have sat on their hands since 2010 once they gained back some semblance of power in the legislative branch.

I wonder if all these recessions you speak of had anything to do with dimocraps controlling both houses of congress at the times?

I think you're right, but it seems obvious that they very much encouraged the housing bubble & are loathe to do much now other than stuff the economy as a club to Beat Obama!

Barney Frank ran Congress & the Bush Admin in 2005? Who knew?

It's not like the Repub majorities in both houses or the Bush Admin paid him the slightest heed, anyway. He was brushed off like a bit of lint on their trousers. Or does he have Kenyan voodoo time warp mind control abilities too?

Yeh- he was wrong. So what? We were demonstrably in a bubble as early as 2002, when the Bush Admin & Greenspan threw gasoline on the fire... And Dubya rode that horse to re-election in 2004, as well.

Yeee-Haw!

Give your team a pass as usual. Nope, Democrats had nothing to do with the collapse. Nothing at all.

You're a pathetic partisan hack. The Democrat version of Spidey.

When the top tax rates were higher and the firewall existed between commercial and investment banks recessions did happen but they tended to be shorter.

This recession occurred after Clinton's tax increases were done away with and after President Clinton signed Graham Leech Blighly into law. (One of three decisions that I consider his worst)

As of now it's one of the longest in recent (or even for several decades) history

The one that started after Clinton's term was short in comparison and the Bush Tax Cut nor the passage of Graham Leech Blighly did make their effects evident in the economy until later.
