So they are hiding the truth, whatever that is.

This seems that they dont belive that Bush won fair and squere and they are tring to hide it from the public. Or that they cheated somehow and want to cover it up.

Fragarific:

Some Republicans would disagree with you, of course. Some of them think that counting the ballots will show Bush was the winner in Florida. Most Republicans know and fear the truth, however.

A recount of the ballots by a news organization may ultimately affect the U.S. and Florida Supreme Courts. If Bush wins, the U.S. Supreme Court's decision will have been legitimized. On the other hand, if Gore wins the recount, the U.S. Supreme Court will look like the idiots I think they are, and the Florida Supremes will be singing top ten hits again.

Czar: They DID cheat. They stonewalled until it appeared it was too late to count the ballots. Furthermore, they used Republican Supreme Court appointees like $5 whores.

And of course, later I feel this line coming on, "We have a president! There is nothing to worry about. We had many people trying to get the right numbers in Florida and the conclusion was Bush won. We can not let the fact that Gore won break our country part"

Yeah, really gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling for Bush, right? I'm ready for the healing and pulling together, aren't you?

Chess9 - Since I would miss you, here is the real story behind the ballot sealing:

The plan, put forth by both Gore and Bush, is to have a special hearing on the matter. This should draw the biggest whiners from the Democrats (who Gore is worried will make the Democrats look worse and worse over time) and the extremists from the Republicans (who Bush knows will give him no end of grief when they discover he's a lot more moderate than they thought).

What actually will happen is that all the people who go to the hearing will be sealed up.

The only immediate effect will be a decrease in global warming because tons of hot air will not be able to escape into the atmosphere (the other reason why Gore is behind this plan).

I knew there was a reason why I don't live in Lotus Land! But you aren't far off the mark. Between Bush and Gore I think we could blow up the planet if they were confined too long.

Whatever you may say, this looks like the Republicans pleading the fifth to charges that they stole the election. Something that will not be lost on the people, especially with the media watching it.

The decision has been made, whether or not Democratic whiners-extraordinaire want to admit it. NOTHING, repeat NOTHING is gained by a recount either way.

Have you ever heard of something being done for the good of the country? At this point, no recount (standardless and biased as any would be) will do anything to change the result that Bush is the President-Elect, and the only outcome would be to throw the country into turmoil over a disputed presidency. Most people in the country (check the fscking polls before you spout off already) are satisfied with the results of the election and are willing to move on.

Scenario A: Recount (standardless and biased) confirms Bush's presidency. Democrats will still whine about the supposed disenfranchising of black voters (including those roadblocks) and the infamous butterfly ballot. The people still discontent will stay that way.

Scenario B: Recount (standardless and biased) shows that Gore allegedly won the Florida electors. Vociferous criticism of Bush paralyzes the government, casting more doubt on its legitimacy and probably spurring our enemies to act in defiance of an "illegal" government. Who knows where this ends, but it's certainly not going to be good either way.

The majority is "correct" in voting for Gore for president, but "incorrect" in wishing for finality and closure. All Democrats are required to wear flip-flops for the next four years.

<< Republicans are saying that for the good of the country >>

Anytime the Goverment or those that Govern include "the good of the country" in any action or statement its gonna be bad. Can you imagine the other things we might or could potentailly see "for the good of the country"?
1)All publications and media should be reviewed by a goverment oversite commitee "for the good of the country"
2)We need prayer in schools "for the good of the country"
3)Only Goverment approved firearms will be legal "for the good of the country"
4)All voting will be standardized nationwide with secret ballots "for the good of the country"
5) A national I.D. "for the good of the country"
6) Records will be kept of all phone calls and internet use "for the good of the country"
so on and so on..........

Legally, the uncounted votes are public property, they have no right to "seal" them. They don't want the press to count them on their own and three months later reveal that Gore actually won Florida.

What pr!cks... :|

They don't want the press to count them with no standards, make up some votes for Gore, say Gore won and sell lots of newpapers with a false story.

You can't tell me that any newspaper would not love to have that story, even if false.

Huh? Why does it matter what the press will write? The votes are part of the public record, and should remain as such. You don't just go around sealing evidence that might lead to criticism. Again, sealing the votes is essentially pleading the fifth, which reflects even worse on Bush then a count. You can always criticize a count and say it was biased. But if you seal the vote, then it's a cover-up, and people assume you have something bad to hide.

sealing ballots is a normal part of Florida Election Law...

ballots are sealed for 22 months after an election, then destroyed... this has no affect on votes... ballots can be taken from seal by court order or order of the election board & there is significant legal debate about by order of the election board.

This is pretty much true in most states.

ballots have never been reviewed under the Fl Sunshine laws, to my knowledge..

There was a Conservative group reviewing the Palm Beach punch cards just a week or two ago.

Shux - Stop the whining.. If the ballots were examined by a democratic group, whats stopping them from being tampered with? How we we trust a group not sworn by law to count them fairly? Do you honestly think if one group or the other did a manual recount on their own that the ballots would not be comprimised in one way or another? How can we assure that if a manual recount is done by some 3rd party, that the ballots won't be comprimised? You can't.. therefore it should not be done... the ballots have already been altered enough after the fact..
