Ballots in Florida have always been open to public inspection and when they are only officers of the election board are allowed to actually handle them. Other people may stand around look. If they do decide to hide these it will go totally against the open door policy the government in Florida has maintained. I guess everything about this case is an exception(exceptionally bad and biased).

Zonker, Zonker, Zonker:

Sheezh, man. Why do you make me do it? Huh? Why do I have to hold your feet to the fire? You've been p*ssing on Clinton (and Gore-it's ok to diminish the V.P.?) for at least the last 2 months. I read your posts. I'm here every day. You have just diminished your credibility with me to zero. And I thought you were a Godly sort, quoting Ephesians and all. At least you aren't of the Palconoid variety, but denying you've spent plenty of time diminishing the Clinton Presidency is laughable.

Who do you think you are kidding?

But, regardless, wait until the votes are REALLY counted, then start complaining. You are scared to death before you know whether it's necessary to be scared to death.

<< They were counted by the machine readers. They were then recounted by the machines. >>

Yeah, but they were NOT counted manually (at least for the most part) which Florida law allows. And Bush's own witness in the contest trial said manual recounts were necessary in close elections.

Only after they are counted, will it truly be know which candidate had the most votes

Why don't the Republicans recount all the States? Answer: Because they know poor people make more voting errors than the DaddyWarbucks crowd. They'd lose by an even larger margin. Fear is a wonderful thing to behold.

Also, how many other startes will affect the presidency if the lead was reversed and it is close enough to have it laughable to even call it a "lead"?

chess..

You or I or anyone on this board has virtually no ability to dimish the power of the presidency. All we have are opinions. Expressing them freely here is an interesting and often entertaining past time.

Counting the votes, by whatever means imagined, could have the effect of dimishing the power of the presidency. It's over man, let GW make himself whatever he will. If I feel he'a being an idiot, I'll be the first to agree with you on the subject.

You've made the same post about 50 times in about 20 different threads. Why do you think we are going to buy it now when we didn't buy it the first 49 times you posted it? You're boring me, man. I don't like to be bored. And this is all about ME. Oops, slipped into Republican mode there.

Zonker, my Good Friend: No, the Presidency won't be diminished if we count the votes. Bush and the U.S. Supreme Court might be diminished. But not the Presidency. Clinton didn't do a d*mn thing wrong this election.

I agree these posts mean little if you don't follow up with a letter to your Congressman. Most of you won't do that. Too bad.

Anyway, we survived the Civil War, we'll survive a recount. Even the Seditious Seven will survive, but not before they bleed some.

Would you care to purchase a 100 sticker lot of "Impeach Scalia" stickers? Better get one before they are gone.

Chess, you are boring everyone with your whining and now your, shall we say, exagarations. Have you been taking lessons from Gore?

If people did not refer to the ballots that have been counted according to the laws of Florida as "uncounted" then the obvious would not have to be repeated.

The Republicans have no reason to seek a recount. They're not crying about the outcome of the election. The Democrats are only crying about the state they should have won but didn't. If every vote counts as the Democrats want us to believe, then why does it seem that only all Florida votes count?

The Dems are running around shouting that Gore won the popular vote. Without a hand recount of all 100 million ballots, the numbers are too close to say who won the popular vote.

Chess9,

Why is that? In your world, are poor people stupid simply because they happen to be poor? Occasionally, your true colors slip through.

Russ:

Are you afraid to call me a racist, Russ?

That's quite a reach, equating the common knowledge that poor, undeducated people are known to have more balloting errors with racism. Tsk, tsk. But, I'm flattered you would stoop so low.

Edit: Who the F*(*+_((_)_)_()_ made me an Elite Member? I do not want to be an Elite Member. I object. I won't be able to go into the hardware forums. I'm going to strangle the mod who did this to me. <hides head in shame, a mere shell of a man, reduced to being a fraternity knick-knack>

<< Every case was close to unanimous. >>

You did notice that the most controversial decision of the Florida Supreme Court, the last one, was 4-3, didn't you? The equivalent of the US Supreme Court decision at 5-4? Three of those judges who were SQUARELY against the FL SC's ruling (plus the trial judge, make that 4) were either Democrats or Independents (there was an independent on the FL SC, unsure which way he/she voted). Further, the dissent in the FL SC ruling was absolutely scathing in its criticism -- it is RARE to find a dissent that outright calls the majority opinion unconstitutional in those terms.

<< They [USSC] have ruled on the equal protection clause only rarely >>

Does it dawn on any of these pundits that while the USSC has only ruled on equal protection grounds rarely, this case involving the presidential election was a rarity as well? How many times has an election for President been this close in the country's history? Perhaps that has a bearing on the grounds for their decision. Go figure.

Looks like you are suffering from that common democrat malady of seeing things that don't exist. Either that, or since I said nothing remotely similar, you must be feeling guilty.

It appears to me, an Independent, that the activist Democrats' intense desire to recount Florida ballots yet again, in the hope of showing that Bush didn't win Florida if at all possible, smells very much like what those very same Democrat's were saying the Republicans were doing when the Republicans were trying to impeach Clinton.

Sordid attempt at payback?

The Democrats say the Republicans were irrevocably tarnished by their successful impeaching of Clinton.

Are the Democrats so unaware that they place themselveshave at real risk of equal tarnishment by continuing to pursue Bush for no possible realization of Gore instead becom ing President?

Live by the rhetorical sword, die by the rhetorical sword.

Bring on the recount!

While I may not always agree with your opinions, when it comes to politics you're one of the most level-headed persons here.
