Hey I'm looking for anyone and everyone's experiences ordering from Klipsch online. And also looking for thoughts on the "PROMEDIA CP-1".

Thanks,

Ordering from Klipsch is fine, no hassles at all and they have great support. Well, for me the CP1 was well worth it, merely because I stepped on the DIN connector and was forced to get a replacement. However I don't know if I would get it, especially at the price they ask. (In my case it was less than $10 more than the original) The headphone jack is very nice, as is the powerswitch; too bad these weren't included in the original as they should have been. For me, it is not worth the price unless your original is broken. However, it does get rid of the scratching (if you have any). If you have the money, and nothing else to spend it on, go for it.

you won't have any problems ordering direct from klipsch, except maybe a stock shortage. you'll also get the benefit of having your purchase recorded for any future warranty/RMA issues.

as for the CP-1 control pod, if you feel you're prepared to pay the $50 for the features, go for it. but keep in mind it's not going to be a true Klipsch 4.1 setup, the satellites will still have the same old crossovers as the v.2-400 (which i'll assume you have) and lack the midrange improvement with the new crossovers in the Klipsch 4.1.

so for the $50 you'd be paying for a headphone and aux jack, as well as a standby button. whether that's worth it or not is up to you

How is the output level of the Klipsch headphone jack as compared to a soundcard's. I find most soundcard outputs to be too low even at full volume. Is the CP-1's output any better?

it didn't seem exceptionally strong to me, but i only use earphones so i don't require as much power as higher end users i don't think. the output volume can't be controlled except by software, so that's kind of a downer, but the same as what you'd expect from a soundcard.

Thanks..I thought maybe the built in amp of the Promedia's would give a fairly strong signal. I just got these HD495's and they sound great, but they seem to need an amplifier to work well. I guess I might need to pick up one of those headroom headphone amps...thanks again.

Yup, agree with everything on the posts here. The line out for the headphone on the CP-1 is weak I guess just like a lot of other headphone jacks for the multimedia market.

I highly recommend NOT getting the CP-1 for v.2-400 systems because there won't be any tonal difference. Although people (like magazines) claim that the new CP-1 fixes the cross over problems of the 400s, it doesn't. If your PreAmp control pod for the 400s break, RMA and get a free replacement. DO NOT blow $50 on that CP-1 unless you just like the look.

there's no tonal difference, but if you're desperate for the aux out and headphone out (minor conviences, but conviences nevertheless) it's a way to get it done. i recently got rid of my live drive since i desperately needed drive bays, and reaching back there, unplugging the klipsch wire and replacing it with my headphone wire, and replacing it again everytime i wanted to use them just didn't work for me. the headphone jack is a lifesaver for the klipsches, but i don't know if i'd pay $50 for it.

edit: as for the output of the headphones, i'm no audiophile but i don't think the preamp has anything to do with the headphone output. i believe it's just routed down from the soundcard, doesn't have anything to do with the Preamp i believe. some please correct me if i'm wrong though.
