Usually the Best Buy 2-pack DVD bundles are pretty lame, but both these movies are fantastic. At $10 a piece you can't go wrong.

You can get this same 2 pack at www.deepdiscountdvd.com for $16.20 and that includes shipping.
I have ordered from these guys several times and have always been satisfied.

Both of these movies are available for less than $10 each at several places. As someone pointed out, DeepDiscountDVD.com is a few bucks cheaper on this set. I've ordered from that place dozens of times. They rock.

BB had this deal a few weeks back for $14.99 when the two pack first came out.

I had put it in my BB.com shopping cart & decided to pick up at the local B&M last week.

BTW, both movies are great even though they're somewhat disturbing.

Both Excellent movies. I have both. Requiem for a Dream is the best movie I have ever seen, hands down.

These movies are pretty weird, but great. But don't watch Requiem for a Dream unless you are prepared to be depressed....really depressed

Haven't seen PI but agree strongly with SUPERS212, "Requiem" is an extremely depressing movie. It may be well done, but I can't recommend this movie. For those unfamaliar, the movie is about the impact of heroin and diet pills. Some things are better left to talking about rather than being so graphically shown. The director is deliberately attempting to shock and repulse the audience.

<< The director is deliberately attempting to shock and repulse the audience >>

That's a load of crap. It is very simply a dark and powerful masterpiece of film. I was not depressed after the film but I was certainly moved. More like in awe of the powerful gripping nature of the movie. Saying it was deliberately trying to shock and repulse you is ridiculous. That would imply that there were portions of the movie that were not integral to the story but only there to "shock" you. This was definately not the case.

Look up some reviews on the film, you'll find many 4 out of 4 star reviews.

...and thanks for the link KiethP.

Edit:

<< The performances in this film are powerful. In my theatrical review, I said that Jared Leto's wasn't as good as Jennifer Connelly's or Marlon Wayans'; how wrong I was. Watching it again, I realize that Leto is the strongest performer of the three. Jennifer Connelly, meanwhile, has really grown as an actress. You won't believe that this is the same girl from Labyrinth, playing Marion. You can read the emotion on her face, but it seems sincere, not put on. Marlon Wayans is the surprise of the trio. With only comedy under his belt, it's a pleasure to see him taking on a dramatic role and turning in a solid performance. I always like to see good actors branching out, and this is just the start for Wayans.

Of course, the best actor in the film is Ellen Burstyn. In what Roger Ebert called an "egoless" performance, Burstyn completely sublimates herself and becomes Sara Goldfarb. This is one of the great performances in all of film history. I found myself either crying or on the verge of tears just by watching her; she is so subtle, yet direct and powerful. Her performance in Requiem is the kind that artists strive their entire lives for. What we have here is just a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Another crucial aspect here is the music. The film is, after all, a requiem, and a requiem without music is like a story without visuals. Clint Mansell composed the score, and the Kronos Quartet performs it. This is one of the most effective and haunting film scores I've heard in a long time. I bought the soundtrack, something I almost never do, and have listened to it innumerable times. The way it works with the film raises the emotional stakes without manipulating the audience.

While too honest and harrowing for some, I recommend everyone who wants to see a meaningful film with great acting, writing, directing, and music to buy Requiem For A Dream

I bought these two movies from Best Buy a couple weeks ago when they were on sale. I watched Pi already. Personally (which does mean this is my opinion and others may vary), It was the worst movie I have ever seen. I haven't gotten around to watching A Requiem for a Dream yet. Then again...I hated the movie Traffic and others seem to love it. My 2 cents.

Does anybody know if the DeepDiscountDVD pack (or the BB pack, for that matter) contains the Requiem for a Dream Special Edition or Movie-Only Edition? I found that at DVD PriceSearch that apparently there's two different versions of this disc out there. If this pack includes the special edition, I'm grabbing it!

Can anybody confirm which version of Requiem these packs contain?

Thanks!

If the amputation scene didn't shock and repulse you, then you are in a different league. The set up of the shot and the spattering blood, although brilliant in execution, was nothing more than gratuitious gore, intended to shock the viewer.

I don't question the filmmaker's ability, just how he chooses to use it.
