REQUIEM! Man, this movie was powerful. I don't plan on watching it every again, but I'm glad I saw it. It comes recommended.

BlackFlag, I do agree with you to an extent on your comment of not changing your life; but I think it would be interesting to see the impact of showing this to 9th graders in High School.

Who knows.

It's the feel good movie of the year!

I didn't hate it, but once was enough for me.

Absolutely incredible movie. Although I loved it, I probably wouldn't ever want to see it again, so I won't be buying it. Good deal though.

Being that I somehow missed this film when it was released and after reading the reviews here, I think I might have to get it for this price (cheaper than actually taking my g/f to the theatre to see it.) BTW, for anyone that has never used it, metacritic is a great place to read reviews of film, videos, music and games since it is a consensus of reviews from different sources and links to the individual reviews.

Good luck renting the unrated version. I think Aronofsky secretly despises that he had to make an R rated version. I rented it without knowing it was editted and then when the title screen comes up, it pops up like the second coming, EDITED VERSION. Needless to say I stopped it immediately and went looking for an unedited version and bought it, on faith that the guy who made "Pi" can't have done wrong.

Also worth noting is that there is a nice interview with Delby (author of the novel) which I found extremely interesting.

This movie is one of my favorites from last year. I would call it the drug movie for people who don't like drug movies. Most other films kind of take the coward's way out and try to be critical of drugs but offer a lot of humor or lightness at the same time. This movie doesn't kid around. It's a downward spiraling cesspool of human self-destruction and desparation. And yes, Ellen Burstyn got totally robbed of the oscar.

comments here sound similar to waht you hear from people after they watch Eraserhead. I've never seen requiem I'll check it out.

Most disturbing cinema experience ever?

Double feature of Eraserhead/Blue Velvet. I was emotionally disturbed for days.....

Pi is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It ranks up there with such terrible films as Brain Candy, Trainspotting, and Waterworld.

Highly recommend. I would order it if I didn't own it on divx.

Pi & Trainspotting are also good IMHO

9th graders? I'd like to see this shown to fourth graders, I guarantee we'd see a huge drop in the number of kids doing drugs. I for one will never touch heroin or cocaine. Anyone who doubts the impact this movie has on one's psyche clearly hasn't seen it.

Edit: Oh, the soundtrack is amazing too, I highly recommend picking it up if you have the chance. Just don't drive to it, it makes you want to swerve off the road occasionally.

I don't usually say things like this, but.. THIS MOVIE SUCKS!

Maybe it's because I got so sick of it, I shut it off after watching for 30 minutes

There are also some other really great deals on that site. All with free shiping.

Resevoir Dogs is $7
39 steps (Hitchcock) $6
Bound (same director as the Matrix, and it has lesbians!) $9

Probably more, I just stopped looking.

Loren.

Pi was ok, probably been better if it was a 1/2 movie like a twilight zone episode

Aronofsky has a great style and is really effective at conveying paranoia, fear, etc.... His stuff reminds me a lot of early Frankenheimer ( particularly Seconds with Rock Hudson, of all people)....if Frankenheimer had been raised on MTV. I can't wait to see what he does with the next Batman film.

I liked Requiem a lot, but I thought Pi was better for being a less predictable movie. Of course, drug movies don't have a whole lot of choices. Things will inevitably get worse...and boy, do they get bad in Requiem. A small criticism, however, and I will gladly spend $10-$20 on this or any other DVD that will make it easier for producers to continue to put real dollars in the hands of great directors like Arnovsky, Chris Nolan, the Coens, the Hughes', David Fincher, David Lynch, Paul Thomas Anderson, Spike Jonze, Lars Von Trier, Julian Schnabel, Mike Leigh, Todd Solondz, Mike Figgis, Atom Egoyan...the list goes on and on.

By the way, if you liked Pi, check out Shinya Tsukamoto's awesome low-budged freak show Tetsuo.

Anyone get this yet?
Mine shipped the other day (not sure what day exactly, it doesn't say in the order status), wondering if people who payed for priority shipping have this already. If mine shipped today, it should get here the 20th at the latest.
