REQUIRED : Tools to slow down network 10mbps LAN to 1k ~ 100k ~ 1mbps

Anyone know the any tools for Windows platform to slowdown the network speed from 10mbps to let say 1k or 100k or 1mbps ?

bump I'm interested in this too, I need to limit my parents use of the dsl connection I mean who do they think they are just because they pay for it doesn't mean they get to use it

Not sure of any windows programs that will do it, but you can do it fairly easily in FreeBSD with dummynet

Don't a lot of routers let you set bandwith by port/IP#?

Not linksys i don't believe.

I haven't seen the setting in my router. Besides, if you did that, you'd probably have to give up DHCP, which would really suck...

I remember someone at one of the shows talking about using a LINIX box for a delay simulator...I don't remember the details other than it used two NICS and twiddled with some of the Kernel settings.

There is a product called "The Cloud" that lets you take snapshots through a LAN/WAM, then emulate the environment (latency, burst patterns, etc) for testing purposes. It's PC-based, I believe it Windows of some sort.

I don't know of any windows tools unfortunately. It seems that not many people have gotten too involved in traffic shaping under windows.

Under the BSDs there's netfilter though I know nothing about it other than it works well, and under Linux (what I'm currently using) you can use 'tc'. On google look up "linux advanced routing howto". It's *not* easy to use/understand imo and took me a while to get things working and they're still not working in an ideal fashion. The plus side is that I can limit any machine on my LAN to any amount of traffic in or out to a specific IP, based on specific ports, or even based on stuff like TOS values.

yea, simple tool... use a hammer and smash the sh!t out of their cable until it goes the desired speed... if its still too fast, smash it some more... be careful to not completely destroy it ;-)

haha.... I need this "speed limiter" is to simulate error-prone or slow speed connections for my research project. I thought of coding one myself, but just want to find a fast one for prototype demonstration (video streaming over slow-link)

Anyone found any?
