It all comes down to being considerate to others. Your not questioning handicapped spots, and as we all know people park in those anyway, or get fake handicapped tags. Just let the preggos have their spot I think I can manage to walk from the parking lot to the shops on my own two feet. If you really think you are that important then petition the shop to make up a AT OT spot for you then.

Agreed. But considering the folks here are mostly virginal geeks, what do they know about pregnancy. Most of them probably had Mom's, but, It's been at least 4-5 +/-2yrs since they've been in the womb, I'd wager.

...

They have those spots at all they Baby's R US stores around these parts. Really haven't seen them many other places, but, I respect them when I do. Yeah, so, if the mom-to-be can walk around the store shopping, another 100' in the parking lot probably wouldn't kill her either, but what do I know. The same argument could be made for those who use handicapped spots, but, those exist too. Until I'm handicapped or pregnant I'll leave those spots alone, fine or no fine. It's just the right thing to do, like it or not.

If that argument doesn't work, it makes moms-to-be momentarily happy, and that can be very difficult in the first three trimesters.

I noticed reserved parking for pregos the other day and it really pissed me off. It's bad enough with the multitude of handicapped spaces. Adding another 6 spaces for pregnant women really makes you hate pregnant women. You have to park out on the horizon and walk toward that distant speck of a store.

I'd rather they get handicapped placards, personally. What if the pregnant spot is full but there are 3 handicapped spots open? Or vice versa...

This would also help doctors decide which women specifically deserve it as it could be done on a case-by-case basis...

And how could a woman who is say, 2-months pregnant, prove that she is such?

And I'm sure by not saying, "Pregnant women should have people bring all their groceries deliveried to their house for them," I'm going to be labeled a misogynist...

So is life...

There should be reserved parking for husbands who are on wild goose chases for their pregnant wives, looking for chocolate sauce and pickles.

This isn't new. We have had these reserved parking spots for years here in Toronto. So I'm surprised this is a new thing for many here in this topic. And yeah, it's amazing the number of asshats that are in this thread.

They have those all over the place at major stores here. The walmart has 3-4 sections of "expected mother", "mother with small children", "elderly drivers", and gigantic frickin handicapped spaces that you could pull a short bus straight into. Major pain as fat people park in all of them.

Having parking spaces for new mothers or mothers to be is ridiculous, IMO. They should walk. It helps keep them in shape.

Fatty parking should be at the far end of the lot.

Eh who cares, most Americans can use the exercise they'll get walking the extra 50 ft they had to park away from that spot.

I t hink its a good idea. some women have a hard time with pregnancy's. heck my wife was taken off from working 8 hr days to 4 hour days (due in sept 5). because of health trouble (wich actually is why i got a vastectomy)

Personally i would rather see them restrict the use of handicapped plates to people that actually need them. For the record i do have the plates. I have pretty bad arthritis and mild Cerbal Palsy. While i have the handicap plates i rarely park in a parking spot. I figure if i am going to walk around walmart what is another 30ft going to do? im going to hurt either way. BUt it pisses me off when i see some person about 30-40 get out and walking fine but who is maybe 300lbs. yes yes i know they may have some other problem but most times you watch them walk around the store fine.

Lol. No kidding. They also need to put partial charges in the little electric buggys that all of them ride in.

edit: No problem with parking for expected mothers. Its hard enough on them that they are pregnant. Just the lazy people and the parking for people with kids is ridiculous.

You would let the pregnant lady have your seat on a crowded train or bus wouldnt you? Well then let her have the parking spot. Its no big deal.

In Philly? Not always.

You're bound to be on "da bus" and have some welfare queen, with 6 kids in tow, and she'll be pregnant with another one- on YOUR dime.

Hell no I'm not getting up for that. She should stop having kids that she can't support.

I think pregnant women should get a temporary disabled plackard from their doctor if they have difficulty walking. Custom made spots for every group are not the best way to do it.

The bottom line is this:

It is a courtesy offered by the property owner. It is their parking lot, and their choice to set aside parking spots for whomever they choose.

Some even do it for "employee of the month" and those little bastards can usually walk just fine!!! (insert outrage here)

I have a feeling walking through the mall from store to store

is several times farther than the farthest possible parking space to the door

My wife is 5months pregnant so I'm biased, but if I caught one of you little geeks taking the spot before my wife I would slash your tires on your ford escort and then be the ****** out of you and teach you some manners.

but as I said, I may be biased.

You'd also be in jail. Then you wouldn't get to see your kid being born. There's also the chance that you'd meet someone who handily pummels you in the parking lot. Just because they're an a-hole doesn't mean they can't fight.
