Resident Evil 4 reviews start to come in.........

This game didn't mean anything to me (and Cube is basically my favourite next-gen system, although I own all 3 together with my roommates).

Then I read the review - I usually trust IGN's scores to be fairly accurate (although Gamerankings is the definitive source when all the reviews come in). Anyways, 9.8 is insane - that's tied with Metroid Prime, the best game on the system and one of my all-time faves.

I was a huge RE fan back in it's heyday too (RE2 was incredible...) but soured on the franchise because I felt it got boring, tired, stale. If this early review is any indication, they appear to have succeed in freshening up the franchise!

Well, that is only with 3 reviews in. Before it's said and done, it could total 20 or more reviews, and there are always sour apples in the bunch that will bring it down.

sure i could find a review . . . . but carefully notice what i really asked was a two-parter: (1) "what's the best RE for the PC?" . . . i was looking for "opinion" from my fellow ATer's (not a friggin review)
and . . .

. . . "how does it's gfx compare to [Doom iii/FC/HL2 or more like Quake III]" and the answer to this question depends on the answer to Part 1 of my question.

edit: (to your credit, you did answer part of my last question i already knew, that it's due for the PS2 late '05 . . . evidently there are no announced plans to port it to PC (i'd guess they will as the series haas been relatively popular for the PC and a "port" is usually pretty cheap).

Both games are almost direct ports of the Playstation with no updates on graphics. And in some instances the Playstation copy may even look better then the PC version

. . . . While you were reading the reviews, i went ahead and searched AT (current and archives) . . . . what i figure from the posts is evidently the RE series is NOT popular for PC and if you really want to play it as intended, get a GC (i guess)

(i'm looking for 'horror'/'sci-fi' games with great gameplay and more variety than Doom iii)

Not to mention the controls and camera sucked in previous RE games. RE 4 seems to have finally fixed this, the game looks awesome

Why not get a GC ? There are some outstanding games you are missing out on

i have learned that no matter what, there are some great PC games i am missing out on.

i simply don't have time to play everything that looks good . . . . i have pretty much limited myself to FPS . . . . and a GC would not seem to be a good buy right now as the new consoles are coming out late this year . . . . some time next year, i have to make a determination - to spend the big bucks needed to upgrade my computer to the 'latest and greatest' SLI'd PC gfx or simply get a nextgen console . . . . but for now, i am sticking with PC gaming.

thanks for your suggestion . . . . perhaps they will make a nice port of RE4 to PC next year . . . .

in the meantime there is much to look forward to in PC gaming:

I know it's not FPS but there is the much anticipated KoTOR II in Feb;
there is BATTLEFIELD 2 PCHB/DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil Expansion Pack (i WON'T be getting this one)/Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory are due in March;
FEAR/Team Fortress 2/STALKER are due in May;
GTA-SA/Black & White 2/Ghost Recon II are due in June

And of course there is the 3rd installment - Serious Sam II some time by Summer . . . .

so no GC for me . . . .

Amazing graphics. Much more difficult from the start compared to other REs because no more stupid zombies. Now we have villagers that run and dodge and throw tools at you. I've only played like an hour, so have yet to encounter any bosses yet.

Even though it's a fully 3D environment, you still have the same familar relative controls as all other REs. So if you're a RE fan, this is a definite must buy. But at the same time, new RE players will also enjoy this game.
