The PC edition of zombastic action game Resident Evil 5 will arrive in North America on September 14 and Europe on September 18, developer Capcom announced today.

Enhancements over the previous Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions include support for Nvidia's GeForce 3D Vision hardware, higher resolutions, new costumes and a "new and improved mercenaries mode with three times as many enemies."

Don't know about the game other than what I saw in the benchmark.
Graphics are good, not crysis level, but better than most. They have around 30 zombies on the screen at one time all moving with their own animations. That is something that they said was increased for the PC. Apparently the console versions could not handle large amounts.
I ran both demos , dx9 , @ 1680x1050 no AA, Q6600 cpu, 8800GTS average on both benches was 45fps.

I also wanted to see how much it was using multiple cores. So I ran the fixed benchmark each time increasing the cpu affinity.

1 cpu - 24fps
2 cpu - 36fps
3 cpu - 45fps
4 cpu - 46fps

So it is making use of multiple cores , although the jump from 3 to 4 cores did little.

The zombies themselves really didn't seem all that aggressive . Someone standing in the middle of a pack of zombies I would think should be getting mobbed, but these zombies seem to be taking turns.

I couldn't make it past 5 minutes of trying to play RE4 on the PC. I hope this one controls better.

What's up with Capcom suddenly starting to release games on the PC? First Street fighter IV, now this? Since when do PC gamers get any love from console only game makers? I mean... Heck... I am very pleased off course but very surprised.

It's called making use of Microsoft's dev kit. Capcom's got their own engine, developed on it, and it can support both PC and console targets with minimal effort.
Prior to this, they were working on a Java based platform with the goal of targeting multiple platforms. It's all in the name of stream-lining work I suppose, and their games still manage to look decent. (also, I've heard PC gaming is doing well in Asia and Europe, so maybe they're targeting those markets)

Still, they take way too long to make it to PC anyway. Street Fighter 4 ran on PC hardware in the arcades and yet was released on it last, and we'll never see House of the Dead 4.

EVery single regular RE title has been on PC except Veronica.

It really wasn't hard at all to control on PC... Using a keyboard is easier than using a gamepad for me.

No, I agree. I heard the controls were wonky. Like not even worth playing the game no matter how much you liked it. I couldn't even stand Assassin's Creed, I bet I wouldn't have stood a chance in this game. I averaged 74 FPS. It said I rendered it very well. Game sure is purdy. I have to agree I hope the Zombies are a bit more aggressive though, lol.

I dunno if this is legit, but I've read the PC version of SF:IV is actually an Xbox port, and the arcade version looks a bit better. If that's true it really fucks with my head.

This will support 360 controller OOTB so no doubt it's worth picking one up if you don't have one. I have the wireless version to play on my HDTV- It's great for PC gaming these days, not have to reconfig every time you play, complete with vibration.

As for the demo- props to Capcom for doing an excellent job here. It runs quite well on my Q9550 @3.4GHz GTX295 DX10 demo with settings all to maximum. So unfortunately Capcom seems to be the only one doing quality ports these days.

We can only hope Dragon Age: Origins will look and play as well as this.

Majinis are pretty aggresive in the console game so if they don't appear so in the demo it's probably deliberate.

Disclaimer: I haven't seen the demo yet.

Personally I noticed this benchmark seems to run like crap in DX10 compared to DX9, which better get fixed before the final release. Isn't DX10 supposed to be more efficient and faster?

810/975Mhz Catalyst 9.7 - Windows 7 64bit

DX9 1920x1080 8xAA highest settings with motion blur
75.9 / 75.5 / 64.5 / 74.5
Score A 72.3FPS

DX10 1920x1080 8xAA highest settings with motion blur
77.7 / 38.4 / 15.7 / 37.6
Score B 39.1FPS

I did a DirectX 10 on Windows 7 x64
Q6600 at stock settings
8800GT
4 GB RAM

at 1440x800
Everything maxed in settings (16xQ AA, but no V-Sync)
Average after the 4 stages was 36.6 FPS - Score B.

Ran smooth I would say.

On the second Benchmark I got 39.1 fps I think.

either the benchmark has some problem with ati or ati's driver doesn't work well this time.

I sure as hell hope RE5 has a way better mouse + KB control mechanism in place. I had to download a separate key-mapper for RE4 to be able to play it.

JESUS the graphics are lovely here. I dunno why but it runs a lot better on the variable than the fixed. I would think fixed should be faster hummm. I can't wait for this game, same with Dead Rising 2. Capcom is showing us PC gamers a lot of love this year.
