Without knowing his motivations we really don't know if it's terrorism or not. Terrorism is narrow in its definition.I'm glad he's out of the picture... not so much that he's dead. It would have been good to understand more of the motivation and make this person live with the consequences of their crimes.

The reason he picks Austin is it's the most "liberal" area anywhere near where he lives (probably somewhere in Texas) and he feels like any baby-killing liberal who would live there or be anywhere in Austin deserves to die. That's why he is happy to set trip wire IEDs that kill random people. Judging by the demographics of Austin he is purposely going after black people and also setting booby traps to catch errant liberals.

The profile of the bomber I've constructed fits only one man - that man is Ted Cruz. He is a brilliant man. Editor of the Harvard law review. Easily capable of designing many various bombs and booby traps. He hates black people, liberals, non-whites and Austin, Texas. He lives within driving range of all the bomb sites. He was not seen on fox news during the time these bombs were planted.
This last bomb was his "F*** the poors" bomb. He already set off his "F*** the blacks" bombs which were targeted at specific people.
Other evidence that it is probably Ted Cruz - His name. Same as another famous "Ted" bomber.

If that was the goal. for now that's a possible reason but we don't know. Initial reports indicate a quiet, unemployed, introvert.
This appears to be a consequence of a society that leaves people behind. To suffer and wallow alone in misery. Faced with a brick wall of an ever increasing barrier to entry, the competition is brutal. There are many human responses to our societal ills, but one of them includes becoming a broken shell, having a mental breakdown. With the potential to emerge from that state as an angry, hateful, and vengeful soul devoid of love or compassion.
It's a shame he died before he could be properly profiled and studied. The mental breakdown of a person is a puzzle that we'd all benefit from solving and working to address together. To make ourselves a better, and more secure, society.
