I've got my letter all squared away, but I just don't know how to go about bringing this up to my boss tomorrow. I'll be leaving on good terms and giving 2 weeks notice, but I'm just really not sure what to say to start off...

Any ideas?

Hand him your resignation letter. Let him read it. Then tell him you enjoyed working there but you have to move on.

Tell him why you're leaving. Maybe something good will come of it. Poor work conditions? Low pay? Let him know.

Seriously though, just say you found an opportunity that offers a step up from your current line of work, and that you will help as much as possible when they transition a new person into the mix.

Yeah, I've already accepted another job offer, and am definitely not too interested in a counteroffer although I suppose I should have something ready to say incase one does come up...Like "Mmm yeah...no"

how about you just want change, and it's not because you have anything against your current job.

But seriously, tell him you've accepted a position with another company and how it's a good opportunity for you. I disagree with Chaotic42 though. Do not go into great detail as why you're leaving. You don't need to tell him how much money they're giving you, benefits, etc. It's none of his business.

Just keep it short and to the point, and say thank you for the time that you've had working for him. That's all.

Short and sweet is always the best

"I've enjoyed my time here and would like to thank you for the opportunities you've given me, but it's time for me to make a move to further my career. Please except my two weeks notice"

or

"I quit" works as well

I once gave my CEO 6 months notice to resign we were on such good terms.
I know how you feel.
Say something personal in your resignation letter to show appreciation. Anything more, and you are just fretting about something that will blow over in a few days.

Ask if you can talk to him in private. Close the door and hand him the letter. Discuss your job and why you're leaving. 2 weeks later get drunk and celebrate.

I so wish I could just walk into work this week and quit...

Although my job is overall decent, it's just not what I want to do and everyday, all the little things that I dislike about it begin to grow and grow and it's come to a point where I just dread going into work.

But w/o anything else lined up, it wouldn't be smart to just up and quit.

That's kinda where this was going. Thankfully a friend let me know about an opening at his company, and I was able to land it.

But I know exactly how you feel...all of the little things began to drive me insane, especially my coworker, and while I'm sure it is probably like that anywhere, it does feel good to leave it behind

I'm glad you have something new coming for you. It must be a great feeling.

I've been researching/planning on going back to school to get probably an MBA degree, but it seems like I'll have to wati till Fall 2008 at the earliest to start and that just scares the crap out of me that I might have to stay at my current job another 1.5 years ugh =( /cry.
