Resizing resolution of .avi file?

I am trying to reduce the resolution of a full-length movie in *.avi format as well as the size of the file itself, to play on my Palm which has a 320x320 screen. Is there any (free) program out there that will allow me to do this?

I use this guide for my audiovox smt5600 smartphone, virtualdub is the program you want
