Hi guys-

Has anyone encountered this problem: the resolution reverts back to 800x600 after a restart? I just hooked up the new Apple 23" Aluminum Display (1920x1200 native) and an MSI GeForce 6800NU using the latest Nvidia 61.77 drivers with no problems with the exception my BIOS screen no longer displays. I set the resolution to its native 1920x1200.

I turn on my computer, black screen, and then finally I see the Windows XP splash screen but in 800x600, and then Window finally loads up but in 800x600. I change the resolution to 1920x1200 again.

Does anyone have a suggestion? Is it the Nvidia drivers at fault? I've used an ATI with the Apple Cinema display before with no problems in terms of saving the resolution.

Thanks in advance with any suggestions or input.

hmm...interesting. wut happens if you change the resolution to 1024x768 and reboot? if that works, slowly raise the resolution up and reboot after each time. i'm pretty sure its the video card or the drivers since you said the ATI card works fine.

Hi,

Thanks for your response. I tried your suggestion and it still reverts back to 800x600. I'm hoping Nvidia releases new drivers that may fix this.

hi,

I just picked up my23" today. 1920*1200 is nice, isn't it

Mine is running from an albatron 6800 GT. Winxp sp2. I have mine set up with Nvidia's twinview prog (with a 17" LCD at 1280*960).

I do have the same problem not being able to see my bios, but not the one you describe about screen res being forgotten.

All I can suggest is that you make sure you're using the NVidia software to set res. It allows u to store profiles for different apps. I think if you set it up as you want to and save it as the default profile you should be able to solve your problem.

Hope this helps

revert back to older drivers, or try some newer beta drivers to see if they resolve the problem.

Man O Man,
I just got a 23 and will be running my new system with it this week. From the sopund of things I should do the setup on a normal 17" LCD so I get the BIOS screen and then after setting everything I can go to the new display. I will be running a BFG ultra OC but the drivers are probably the same.
Will check back and repost

Hi-

Here is what I did. I installed the videocard (MSI 6800) and connected it to a 18" Dell LCD display. Installed the latest Nvidia reference drivers, rebooted and then set the native resolution for the 18" display. I turned off the PC, disconnected the 18" Dell LCD display and connected the Apple 23" Cinema display. I turned on the computer, see no Bios screen so its black for a while, then Windows loads up. The resolution is at 800x600. I change it to 1920 x 1200. Everything looks fine. I restart my computer, the resolution goes back to 800 x 600. So I think I did everything you did.

Can you explain in detail what you did when setting it with the Nvidia profile program?

Thanks!!!

Are you using WinXP SP2?

If you are using SP2 then that explains it right there. I don't know anyone who can get it to not reset the resolution after a restart with SP2.

I personally wouldn't touch SP2 with a 6 foot pole.

I got an new Apple 20" Cinema Display but I haven't had a chance to toy with it much. Waiting on parts for my new system.

I suggest you try running it with WinXP SP1. If this is an issue with SP1 then you got me. This is mostly an issue with nVidia cards and I'm getting an ATI X800 based card so... /shrug

I've read that the 6800U does not have this problem where the 6800 and 6800GT do have the problem (no POST info).

Cheers!

Well, the Apple forum was very helpful! It looks like the NVIDIA Beta drivers resolved the problem with loosing the resolution.

My Radeon X800 arrived and it now shows the bios and tne resolution saves fine!

Thanks for everyones response, much appreciated.

My system runs fine
BFG 6800 Ultra OC with SP2 and forceware 61.77(?) and I have zero issues.
I can see the BIOS with no problems and the resolutions stay as expected.
One small issue with the MLB temp but MSI has already responded so I'm gaming

Cheers

Which model X800 do you have and who made it?

Also which video driver version are you running with?

Thanks.

Are you using Catalyst drivers or Omega? Thanks.

P.S. My X800 XT PE (Sapphire) is on its way. Hopefully I can see the BIOS with it.
