While I agree the proliferation of KK's donuts selling everywher has not been a great move, too bad your KK stores quit making them fresh.

We've got two I know of that still do. What a glorious sight it is to be in a Krispy Kreme at 5AM, buying a cup of coffee and a fresh glazed KK donut, while you watch through a glass wall KK donuts being made.....the icing is the best part. Makes your teeth ache from just watching.
there was a brief window of time where a bunch of third party stores around me were selling KK donuts (including Target), but it only seemed to last a couple months, maybe a year at most.

Krispy Kreme - Maybe 30 years ago, now they don't actually make donuts in the store, they just warm them over and are trucked in. They have krispy kreme in every single gas station everywhere. Its not good anymore.

I have never been to a Krispy Kreme that does not make them fresh in the store.

i too see them in most every gas store. Their shipped in, overpriced, too small and definitely not the freshest. I usually eat Concannon's. a local bakery here. We also now have Jack's donuts which is also good.

So much good food that I don't have access to, as for whatever reason, the chain does not have a local facility.

1. Panda express. When i lived in Nevada, I once ate there every day sometimes twice a day for a solid month.
2. Red Robyn. Good burgers and endless baskets of seasoned fries? Count me in.
3. Steak and Shake. Great small fries, excellent shakes and tasty burgers. I once drove 200 miles roundtrip to get a bag of burgers for my wife. That store has now closed. Gas was 1.10 back then.

Panda Express? What the fuck? I wish they tore all of those down around here to make some room for some decent food. Red Robin is okay every once and a while but not that great for $10 burgers.

That orange chicken. It calls to me.

They went out of business because most people can't tell the difference between real food and fillers. Plus, they've been trained to eat anything that's nationally advertised because they're also afraid to try anything new.

You just sound snobby. People can like large chains just as much as local joints. Plus it's not like every local joint is going to have good food. There's as many crappy mom & pop restaurants as there are good ones.

Boston Pizza, Moxie's, or Kelsey's. These are usually set up in plazas or sub-urban strip malls. I'm downtown, so it's at least a half-hour drive to the nearest one I know of. When I'm out in the country for work, there's one every couple miles.

It's the adventure that makes it fun. The important thing is they're different. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if I never stepped into a TGIF/Ruby Tuesday/Applebees/Chilis again. They all have the same damned food, with different shit hanging on the wall. Generic American restaurant/pub food.

Boston Pizza? Probably one of the worst family restaurant chains I've been to. It's airline food you know. Literally. Comes in bags and they just heat it on site. :\

Wish we had a Nando's Chicken here. Portuguese style BBQ chicken with spicy piri piri sauce. Yum.

All chains suck. Really, I've lived in Michigan, California, and South Carolina, which covers most regions. Any place that is a regional and/or National chain (over extremely regional food i.e 5 or so stores) can't hold a flame to home cooking.

This includes; In-N-Out, Five Guys, McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, Carls Jr., Jack in the Box, Chick-fil-a, Bojangles, KFC, White Castle, Krystal, Waffle House, Wendy's, Long John Silver's, Taco Bell, Del Taco, Arby's, Pizza Hut, Dominoes, Little Caesar's, Hungry Howies, Sonny's BBQ, Famous Dave's, or anything else you can probably suggest.

#1: Rocky Rococos. There are 12 in Wisconsin and 1 in Minnesota. I was lucky enough to grow up near the one in Minnesota. Its AWESOME fucking pizza. Much better than other Chicago style, especially at chains.

#2: Churches Chicken. Better than KFC and Popeyes by a long shot.

Thats all. I have plenty of other chains I do like in town. Logans. Chipotle. Oh wait, I would like to see Godfathers. Theres plenty out west of here but its not worth the long road trip.

I wish there was a Schlotzsky's here. I used to live on their muffuletta sandwiches when I was in Texas.

You should come to New Orleans and have a real muffuletta. I bet you'd love it.

I'm not a big chain person since I have a lot of local places to eat, so I guess my answer is Krystal. They have them around, but not close enough for me to visit.

If small chains count, then I'd say Coop DeVille, a chicken place in Mississippi.

I haven't seen anyone argue that home cooking or a sit-down restaurant beats fast food, but that doesn't mean there's not a place in the world for a place where you can get a decent meal to go in under 5 minutes.

and there's the mass appeal argument, when you're with people with diverse food preferences and just want something generic that will be acceptable to everyone.

my BF and I go to different, local restaurants all the time, but if we're in a group... yeah, we'll just head to a diner or Fridays or whatever rather than argue about italian vs chinese vs thai.

Roscoes House of Chicken & Waffles, WOW Wingery, Round Table Pizza, Famous Daves BBQ, Rally's, Fuddruckers The Counter & Cluck-U. I dunno if Cluck U's a chain, but I had a friend in DC who said it was awesome and she said they deep fried their biscuits. That place has to be exceptional.

Roscoes is seriously overrated. The food wasn't bad but I don't understand the hype. It's literally what it is, chicken and waffles.

Okay, Roscoe's was awesome (though I consider them to be extremely regional as per my other post) its probably mostly because I was expecting crap, and I got a wonderful combination of fried chicken and waffles, which somehow go together.

I see, well I mean to say that I don't want anymore chains, I want more homecooking-esque, mom and pop places. For instance there is this place called Jaws Big Mouth Burgers, that I have been to once that was totally awesome. It is entirely Jaws themed (though not too over-the-top) and they played Jaws in the 5 or so table restaurant. If a place like that wanted to expand I'd be all for it.

I've had:

In-N-Out - Best Burgers Ever.

5 Guys (several open near me now) - a close second. 5 guys has better fries.

Red Robin - Not impressed. Seems like a Chili's or TGIF without the fun, and a limited menu.

Panda Express - Horrific. Never had anything good here.

Steak and Shake - if you discount that a waiter stole my phone and sold the SIM that was used to call jamaica for $3344, than its good food, really terrible service. Seriously bad, like I see the folks in the drive through selling dope. Then again this is sofla. I've had good steak and shake elsewhere.

Pei Wei is passable. Its not quite great, but it will do very good for lunch.

Hungry Howies is great (they have one near me way deeeeeep south, local franchise). Its decent pie for what it is. It'll never beat any of the local places though.

Chik-Fil-A - OMG awesome! Eat here. Thankfully FL is full of em!

Krispy Kreme - Maybe 30 years ago, now they don't actually make donuts in the store, they just warm them over and are trucked in. They have krispy kreme in every single gas station everywhere. Its not good anymore.

DD - bigtime change from 10 years back. Donuts suck, coffee is swill. I can't get a proper balance anywhere I go, most of the time they want to make candy for me when I want coffee.

Jack-In-The-Box - Not bad fast food. I like it but it doesn't rise to the level of 5 guys or in-n-out.

Del Taco - I really really wish we had this. Taco bell is horrific. Del Taco is fresh and good.

Taco Bell - Looks and smells the same going in and out.

Krystal - (white castle clone) Not that great.

Checkers/Rally's (anywhere that doesn't have these fries is a place I won't move.)

I've yet to eat at whataburger.

All the Krispy Kremes I've been to made the donuts there. You could stand in line and watch the machine.

I miss White Castle and Dunkin Donuts. I really would like a nice, plain, old fashioned donut every now and then.
