restore lilo boot

i have somehow killed my lilo menu at startup, how do i restore it? (ie make the comp to boot from the linux boot partition and display lilo instaed of win2k boot menu)
i have triple boot of redhat62/win2k/winme

your CD should have a image of a boot disk. Using the rawrite utility in windows write the image to a floppy. Boot off the floppy with the option "root=/dev/hd..." where hd is followed by a, b, c indicating the disk etc etc and a number telling lilo which partition.

This should boot up alright. Then just run lilo as root.

I have the same problem. My computer runs Win98 instead of the lilo, and I cannot see the Linux partition in windows. How can I restore the lilo boot? My Linux is Corel Linux.

reboot and hold down the shift key. if you had lilo previously installed, you should see the lilo prompt. if you do see the lilo prompt just hit the tab key to see your options. now just login and type lilo to overwrite your mbr.

Have you made a Linux boot disk?If yes boot from it then edit if you want /etc/lilo.conf and make any changes you wish then run lilo (give /sbin/lilo) and this should restore it.And if you are using Win2k there is a nice Linux HOWTO that you may find in any site providing Linux documentation, that explains how you can use the Windows NT/2000 loader to load Linux.

Ok in redhat anyhow the CD has some utilities in D:\dosutils go there and run rawrite.exe . It'll ask for a disk image.
So you tell it D:\images\boot.img . Then give it the disk drive your floppy is in. It'll make a book disk that normally install linux.

Anyhow then you boot off the disk and at the prompt you type linux root=/dev/hd(a letter)(a number) where the letter and number tells linux which drive and which partition. You'll have to figure this one out yourself. But usually C: drive is letter A and D: is letter B.

Do that and it should boot. AFter that login as root and run lilo.

REboot and it should work now.

i used the cd to make a biit disk and restored the lilo mbr.
thanks also for mentioning the howto, i now have linux in my win2k menu.
