Has anyone found Skies of Arcadia at a good price? I've picked up most of the choice titles suggested in this forum but have not come up with a copy of Arcadia for under $20.

Pakaderm, don't open those games! You got a few stinkers to take back. I've seen Sonic Adventure for $9.99 at various places (used, perhaps). NFL Blitz 2K1 is OK, but the Sega Sports NFL2K1 is the one to get. Both Tomb Raider games are lousy. 18 Wheeler is OK and UFC is pretty good.

Ok, I didn't buy all of them; I just mentioned them. I did buy the Sonic Adventure game for $19.99. I did find it later today at a different Target for $9.99. Comparing them at home the $19.99 version is a 2 CD set instead of just the game. I think this is a sound track. The cases are identical, other that the 2 CD thing. Can someone confirm if this is just a sound track? If so, I'll return it and keep the version w/o the soundtrack.

I ordered the Sports Bundle so NFL2K1 is on the way for me. I have played NFL Blitz on both the PC and the PS1 and I really enjoyed it, so I think I'll keep that one. Can someone tell me if it's similar/different from the PC version? I only bough the TR Chroicles, not the other one. For less than three bucks, it's hard to go wrong.

I didn't buy UFC or 18 Wheeler, but I hid them incase I wanted to go back and get them . So... are they worth buying?

UPDATE:

I checked another Target today and found

Sonic Adventure 2 - $29.99

I didn't pick it up, but should I? They had several copies, and I'm wondering if the price will drop on this title.

Target also had

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 - $9.99
I purchased this but I don't know if I'll keep it. Can someone tell me if this is a good game or not. Should I get this one or just THPS 2?

I picked up a copy of F355 Challenge from Sears for $19.99. Is this a keeper?

Also, I found a USED copy of Soul Calibur(sp) for $29.99. I didn't get this, but I could go back and buy it. I know people say this is a great game, but $29.99 seems a lot to pay for a used game.

Comment/feedback?

Good prices here...

<< UPDATE: Sonic Adventure 2 - $29.99 >>

Only price we have so far...

<< Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 - $9.99 >>

Best price we have on this. If you like skateboarding/xtreme sports games, they don't get any better than the Tony Hawk series!

<< F355 Challenge from Sears for $19.99 >>

Again, best price we have on this. This title is hard to find, BTW, and is supposed to be EXCELLENT

<< a USED copy of Soul Calibur(sp) for $29.99 >>

I bought a NEW copy for 29.99, and then found a USED copy for $24.99. Best price we have for a NEW Soul Calibur is 19.99. BTW, Soul Calibur is the BEST fighting game on any platform, bar none (an arcade stick makes it even BETTER)! Your call...

<< Pakaderm >>

Some NICE finds Pak...thanks!
Now PM me scans of your receipts!

<< VMU (Visual Memory Unit) is...not a requirement for all games. >>

One important function not yet mentioned is the fact that by saving progress, a memory unit keeps track of what you have "unlocked" in many types of games, including fighting games (where you can play as/against additional fighters), driving games (where you receive new cars and tracks), even fishing games (where you receive new locations, tackle, and lures).

<< kids games, i don't know much ... sonic is pretty good >>

Here's a quick rundown of some "good" games for kids:

NOTE: When I say "good," I'm talking more about content, rather than relative "fun" or "quality."
KIM, YMMV

102 Dalmations: Puppies to the Rescue
Chu Chu Rocket
Dance Dance Revolution
Driving games (esp. Daytona USA for the budding NASCAR fan)
ECCO the Dolphin
Fishing games (any of them)
The Grinch
Looney Tunes Space Race
Rayman 2
Samba de Amigo (gotta have maracas tho, which can be BIG $$$)
Space Channel 5
Sonic Adventure 1 & 2
Sonic Shuffle
Virtua Tennis (a tad complicated, maybe best when older)
Wacky Races

If you want to check the content of a game before purchasing, take a gander at Gamespot's Dreamcast site.

btw, just wondering ...
for the receipt scan, what should people who use the credit card do?
i mean, some of us will have the signature, card number, etc, on the receipt -- if we cover those in the scans, will the receipt (for PM purpose) still work?

i got a receipt for soul calibur that's 29.99 (which is pretty much everywhere), if that's necessary
i guess i can try to stop by cc to get marvel/capcom and capcom/snk (if i can skip work early) tomorrow -- but since i don't really want to keep those games, and don't feel like returning the games a few days later (pls don't ask why ), i am a bit hesistant .....

btw, if you run out of disk space in hosting the scan of receipts (which maybe not, since i haven't seen any yet), let me know -- i can host some as well

receipts i have (but haven't scanned yet since i'm lazy plus they're not the hard-to-find price and/or available everywhere anyways):
record of lodoss war for $10
soul calibur for $30
enforcer arcade stick for $15
nyko dc->s video for $.99 (the receipt says 284530 - DRC S CABLE CONNEC --- .99 => does not say the UPC number or anything, so i'm not even sure if it's usable). 284530 is the number on compusa sticker, along with some strange dates on it ..

i *think* i saw space channel 5 for 7.99 somewhere (either ebgames, funcoland or gamestop), but couldn't recall where (visited too many stores yesterday). if i saw it again i'll post

tee off golf is 9.99 at fry's and 15$ elsewhere
and we need more sears here :|

Covering or blacking out personal info shouldn't be a problem, as long as nothing is covered up that uniquely identifies either the receipt, store, or the item(s) that need(s) to be PM'd.

Definitely NOT trolling for cc numbers with this thread

AAAAAACK! And now that I look at the first post, I see that I neglected to add the line that said "Please cover or black out any personal info before sending" when I added the info about the receipt scans. Heh......sorry bout that...fixed now.

All -- Went to Sears last night and they had a sign for 50% off the games. They had titles like Shenmue, SeaMan, Ecco, Sonic Adventure and lots of others. Two rang up for $19.97 and the other rang up for $19.99. The checker than applied a credit for 50% off.

Unfortunately I can't email from home because of AT&T @Home issues. I would be happy to fax the receipt to someone of they want to scan and post. Or, you might be able to have your Sears call the Sears at Stonebriar Mall in Frisco, TX, store number 01080.

Don't PM me if you would like me to fax the receipt, since I can't access the at home email. Just post a message on this thread and I will check later this afternoon.

Good luck!

:Q Looks like a trip back to Sears is in order! I bet it's a store by store thing, though.

mithrandir2001 -- It is a store by store thing. I went to the Sears at Collin Creek Mall in Plano yesterday and they did not have the 50% off sign. Their prices were ringing up $14.99 to $29.99. I am going to go back by today and see if they will give it to me at 50% off since the store down the road had 50% off.

If your store doesn't have it, they might be willing to call and match the Sears at Stonebriar.

Good luck!

So the next question...

What's the best racing wheel to get for DC? In searching at Sears/EB I've found 2-3 different wheels. I didn't have my palm with me so I didn't write down the models. I think one was Concept 4 Wheel at Sears for $37.99. Amazon has this wheel for $60, if I have the right one at Sears. EB had one or two for ~$30. Who has experience with some of the wheels who could shead some light on the quality of them.

Oh yeah, one of them was suppposed to be able to snap onto the chair. Which one was that?

I don't have any experience with the other wheels, but the reviews I read said that the MC2 from Mad Catz was the best wheel for the Dreamcast. I bought one a few weeks ago and love it. I'm currently trying to find one (for my nephew) for $30 as listed in the first post, but haven't had any luck yet.

Not sure about the chair, but the MC2 has a couple of slide-out pieces on the bottom that sort of wrap around your thighs so you can hold it in place on your lap. Works well enough.

I've tried both the Interact and the Mad Catz wheels. I prefer the Mad Catz, personally. I have a previous post in this thread detailing the differences.

<< I'm just wondering if we'll end up seeing Dreamcast titles blister packed at a reduced price, like I see PS 1 titles. They have bunches of them hanging on pegs everywhere. Maybe that's why one CUSA sent all of their titles back? Maybe we'll eventually see them "bulk" like a lot of PS 1 Titles. >>

Actually, the EB in the Monmouth Mall in Eatontown, NJ had games bundled with VMU's in blister packs for I believe $19.99. Granted, some of the games were not "A" titles (Space Channel 5, Chu Chu Rocket), but one pack had NFL Blitz 2000 in it.

I have been playing Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. Hopefully adventure type games on the DC are better than this one. It has a pretty good story, and the fighting doesn't seem to get to old, but these retarded block puzzles and the jumping from platform to platform gets old. If you don't do it just right, you must start the sequence over. If I want to test my jumping skills, I'd go back 15 years and play Mario World.

Do the Resident Evil series games have these stupid 10 year old jumping type sections of the game? If so, I'll be returning them.

"CUSA's website also shows it for that price, so whomever got it for $9.88 got lucky and they made a mistake."

mdk was also one of the hot games a while back just like fur fighters(which some scanned say $37.88, others say $9.88--this is same store incidentally). you need to have the "hot games" sku
out of that bunch, i only bought sbf(told ya i'm jaded--always think prices will get lower)

"Someone pointed out that games should now have a bulk UPC label placed over the old label. Nope. That should not be happening for Dreamcast titles..at least not yet (?)."

the "hot games" do and maybe some others (i forget)

has anybody mentioned sonic adventure2 @ cusa for $14.88 yet?

Day-yamn. $202.50. Somebody is selling these on FS/T for $89 (think it's the real Sega kind), so perhaps we have an arbitrage opportunity here.

"I found one reason why people would download the games (I haven't done it myself). The selection of DC games in stores and even online stores is tiny. I've heard that DC was supposed to have 200+ games, but I've only seen about 7-10 in the average store.

People who steal Dreamcast software suck. Yes, store inventories are dwindling, but nobody here is a tech novice and using online sources - like eBay or half - to buy material shouldn't be a problem.

Sure, peeps want to fool with utopia and marvel at the novelty of downloading games, but when a collection is comprised solely of pirated CD-Rs, you have denied deserved income to the developers who wrote the game software. This is one of the reasons why the Dreamcast isn't getting any more new titles: few are willing to pay full-price for new games, so developers have essentially dropped support."

mithrandir- Of course you are correct. It's amazing to me that people complain about about the lack of games, then download them for free. What do these thieves expect.

It will be interesting to see what happens now that Sega has flooded the market with their consoles. I'm sure that this action has affected the Christmas sales for the other machines. I bought a Dreamcast, and I'm no kid. It could actually revive the platform. We'll see.

I think the $49 price was a little gift, a final salvo for Sega as hardware manufacturer. This system is simply too good to go for $49, but I'm not complaining. However, this budget price is not without its downside. Sega considers anybody who buys one of these remaining Dreamcasts a "budget" gamer. IOW, not very profitable customers...not the kind who buys $49 games like a new X-Box or GC owner will. All these increased Dreamcast owners won't change developers' plans because of this budget label. "Where were you guys when the system was $199 or $149?" The new interest, though, might delay when publishers stop printing legacy DC titles for good. Why would a publisher stop printing an old title if there is still a demand, given that there is just a small marginal cost to produce a few more units?

PS2 is definitely the loser in this price action by Sega. Both are very similar: both have an established library and neither are the latest and greatest. How could a rational person pick the $299 PS2 over the $49 DC? If you want a system that is not terminal, you'd be better off with X-Box or GC. PS2 is caught in the middle. No wonder I always see stacks of them in stores. Someone posted sales figures for console sales and X-Box and GC sold a combined 115K+ units last week while the PS2 garnered 25K sales. Big loss of market share during the critical holiday season. But PS1/PS2 are doing quite well on software sales (no doubt because of the large installed base) and that's where the profit lies.

This is a clip from an article on ebgames.com:

<< IGNDC: There have been rumors about this for quite some time and I can't think of a better time to ask it. Is there another Dreamcast price drop planned? >>

<< CB: You know what, Anthony, the Dreamcast is a great deal and we're on allocation at the moment. We've had to limit our shipment to retailers because they've ordered more than we've got. And here's something special; the last one that ship, there will be a very special last Dreamcast and I would love to know who's getting that one. That will ship before Christmas and there's going to be a momentous occasion when the last batch of Dreamcasts ship. >>

Anyone know what the guy is talking about? His name is Charles Bellfield, Vice President of Strategic Planning and Corporate Affairs for Sega of America.

Hype on a discontinued game console? Very interesting.
