mithrandir- I accept your analysis.

You mentioned that Raymond2 was one of your favorites. Have any others? What about the gauntlet game? Is it like the old Atari game?

Saw Star Wars: Demolition at the SuperTarget in Overland Park, Kansas on clearance for $9.90. About 10 copies of it too - also a few other games that I don't recall (they were just that unimpressive).

bad news ...
capcom vs snk is now $20 at CC
i know i should've bought it when i saw it for 10$ ....
i didn't see marvel vs capcom 1, not sure if it's still 10$ ....

maybe the 10$ game was for that local store only. too bad i forgot which one i went to (i just remember that it's quite far from here and i'm not going there anytime soon)

i will have the receipt scan later (if i can still stay awake when i get home tonight).
i don't know if i'm going to keep the game though... i'm hesistant to return the game, but i don't know where to sell this either .... anyone interested?

anyways, just want to give you all updates on that one

Erm, not to defend warez, but...

If a game is not for sale new, it is abandoned. Those that made it have stopped trying to get paid for their efforts. (Or rather, the big corp rights-holders have decided they don't effen care.) This is a sad thing, but companies continue to do it. Now, it is still illegal to propagate illigitimate copies of said game (despite what some might try to argue), but I'll point to lots of great arguments about how it is certainly not immoral.

Now, in an ideal world, all of these old titles would be continued to be offered for sale. Doesn't happen for DC games or any other games, and it is a shame. A real shame.

However, if the only way I can buy a game is to pay some obscene amount on ebay (try searching for, say, Ultima 1), I'll feel no remorse for downloading said game. (Actually, I got that one as part of the Ultima Collection just before said collection became tought to get -- it is now way too expensive on ebay.) Of course, I'll still look for the original at a reasonable price, if only because I love to have the real thing, the media, the manual, the boxes, etc.

<< It will be interesting to see what happens now that Sega has flooded the market with their consoles. I'm sure that this action has affected the Christmas sales for the other machines. I bought a Dreamcast, and I'm no kid. It could actually revive the platform. We'll see. >>

PS2 is definitely the loser in this price action by Sega. Both are very similar: both have an established library and neither are the latest and greatest. How could a rational person pick the $299 PS2 over the $49 DC? If you want a system that is not terminal, you'd be better off with X-Box or GC. PS2 is caught in the middle. No wonder I always see stacks of them in stores. Someone posted sales figures for console sales and X-Box and GC sold a combined 115K+ units last week while the PS2 garnered 25K sales. Big loss of market share during the critical holiday season. But PS1/PS2 are doing quite well on software sales (no doubt because of the large installed base) and that's where the profit lies.
>>

That's got nothing to do with PS2 being caught in the middle, dude. PS2 has been out a year longer than the other two consoles, and the high demand period the other two are going thru right now has been long over for PS2. Just watch--this time next year you will see Xbox and GC pulling similar numbers to what the PS2 is pulling right now. Console sales typically fall off with time, as the peeps who want one have already got one. PS2 is just shifted further along the decay curve because it's been out longer.

Hey all...long time reader, first time poster.

First off, I've got to give a big THANK YOU to TallGeese for the hard work he's done -- you've saved me a lot of money, and helped me snag quite a few good DC games to boot!

I wanted to post that while doing a runthru of items on Yahoo shopping, I found a store there that's selling a couple DC accessories inexpensively. The site itself is http://www.kommax.com , although when you start browsing around, the URL changes to a Yahoo store URL, http://store.yahoo.com/joyluckshop/index.html.

They've got a set of Samba de Amigo controllers that, while apparently not the Official? ones, are "Made by The same people that made the official Sega version of the maracas controller for the Dreamcast games Samba De Amigo and the soon-to-be-released Samba De Amigo 2001!" Either way, their price for the non-official controllers are $35.99.

Non-Official Samba de Amigo Controllers

They also have a Dance Dance Revolution Pad Mat for DDR2. Is DDR2 an import? The only one I've heard of is plain ol' vanilla DDR. Well, either way, their price for that pad is is $17.99.

DDR2 Pad Mat

Looking on their site for some of the "Most Wanted" games at the beginning of this list, I found:

GigaWing 2 -- $30.99
Gundam Side Story 0079 -- $42.99
Power Stone -- $29.99
Tech Romancer -- $45.99
Virtual On -- $42.99

The prices are, well, EXPENSIVE, but I guess if you can't find the games anywhere else and you've got the cash...

I hope that I helped someone out somewhere with this post!

EDIT: Actually, the DDR pad & SdA maracas are cheaper at Game Choice Club...

huesmann- One important point relating to DC. Because of the $50 console, DC all of a sudden has a ton of brand new owners wanting to purchase games for their new unit. To me, it just makes good business sense to supply this demand with new games. If nothing else, it will be interesting to see what happens.

I suppose a good rule of thumb is, if a game sells on eBay for a higher price than the original retail price, then downloading the game is tolerable; the logic is that if the street price is higher than original retail, the item must be in short supply and the manufacturer has all incentives to make more (large profit potential), but for some reason won't. However, there aren't many DC games whose street price exceeds MSRP.

Here's a question (hypothetical): is it morally acceptable for a US console owner to download a copy of Shenmue II? This game will not be made available in the US for the Dreamcast. It WILL be available on X-Box.

US console owner to download a copy of Shenmue II?

Good question, don't know the answer, but the DC PAL (Euro) version of Shenmue 2 plays fine on US machines.

About the broadband/LAN adapter...do you need to subscribe to SegaNET or whatever they use now? I already have an internet connection, obviously, but do you need to pay a monthly fee for the Dreamcast to access the special online areas? $50 sounds cheap, really.

Well, that's good and others have said the same thing. My copy of Shenmue II left the UK for the States yesterday.

Re DC Warez: IMO, it is not worth the time to FIND, DOWNLOAD, and BURN DC warez. Expecially when the games are only $10 or so.

This is true, if you can find the game you want for $10 or so.

Yeah, there are very few dreamcast games that aren't available at a decent price, basically because they are pretty new. Computer games more commonly fall into this category. Take a look at the price for, say, Axis and Allies Iron Blitz on ebay.

As I wait for Amazon to ship my DC several questions cross my mind...

It comes with NBA/MLB/NFL 2K1. Is there a point to get 2K2? I guess I should probably play the 2K1 series several dozen times and determine if I want the 2K2 series.

Next, has anyone ordered a DC from Amazon (Sports Bundle) recently and received it? I would like to have an idea if it's going to be pre-Oct2000 or not. I've borrowed GT2 for PSX from a friend and I was intending to get bleem!, but if the DCs that Amazon has are post Oct 2000 I might be outta luck.

Is this Sports Bundle package/SKU the same at all retailers? I saw this package at Sam Goody for $99.99, not the $69 that Amazon has it. I can go buy that one and check the date, and if it's pre-Oct2000, I can get that one and when the console from Amazon arrives, just return IT to Sam Goody. Sound like a plan?

What's the best adventure game for DC? Phantasy Star 2 Online?

I really don't have a great desire to play DC games online (that's what my computer/cable modem are for.) How much fun is PS2Online in single-player mode?

I don't have any experience with any of these games since, like you, I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of the Dreamcast Sports Bundle from Amazon. In the meantime, I've done some research and the consensus as far as adventure games are concerned are as follows

Shenmue
Skies of Arcadia
Grandia 2
Record of Lodoss War

I can't guarantee you'll be happy with them so you're better off checking any reviews you can find for them from such places like IGN and even from Amazon.com.

Finally, from what I've heard, Phantasy Star Online is "alright" but to really take advantage of all it has to offer, you have to play online. In short, if you're going to play by yourself, it might not be worth it. Hope this helps.

For anyone looking for Virtual On, I have a copy I'll let go for $23 shipped (which is what I've got in it). It's just not my type of game. The disc, jewel case, and instructions are in mint condition. Send me an email to rickforrest@mindspring.com if you want it and can pay via Paypal (I'm verified).

""Next, has anyone ordered a DC from Amazon (Sports Bundle) recently and received it?""

I ordered the bundle last week and received it on Monday. Didn't check the date and it is now hidden away from prying eyes! I also had ordered it from KBToys but they cancelled the order w/o telling me!!
