Warning: I've heard that the LAN ADAPTER is not the same as the BROADBAND ADAPTER. The broadband adapter will play games, but the LAN adapter won't! I don't have any definitive sources on this, but you may wanna research this product more closely before buying.

Edit: I've been searching Google, but can't find any details. Everyone uses "LAN" and "broadband" interchangably, so I can't tell if there really are two separate products. Note however that broadband is commonly quoted as 10/100 mbit, while the adapter being sold here only says "10-BaseT" on the box.

Good catch. I was thinking of ordering the LAN/broadband adapter, but I wasn't happy with how you purchase/pay. Send them an email and then pay them only with a cash-equivalent method in a separate transaction. No intergrated order form/CC payment mechanism. Since it is a foreign retailer, I decided not to risk my $50-60.

I bought my DC sports bundle from Amazon months ago when it was still $99 (like August or something). The machine is dated as december 2000.

couple of my friends bought the same sports pack from BB during thanxgiving, and both of them got theirs dated like may/april 2000 or something.

also one thing i notice about my DC machine, it didn't read some games well.. (i.e. soul calibur , virtua fighter 3tb..). but my friends' DCs read my games ok. i wonder why...

btw, i saw Reel Fishing Wild at target today for $9.00.. darn, I got ripped by $2.99 plus tax... well

Re DC Warez: IMO, it is not worth the time to FIND, DOWNLOAD, and BURN DC warez. Expecially when the games are only $10 or so.

Depends on your ISP, how fast your burner is, how important imported games are to you, and how hard it is to find certain games in stores. To be honest with you, if I were so inclined, I could find, download, and burn a game a lot faster than locating it in a store and driving there and back.

In regards to adventure games, Shenmue II is incredible.

When you say doesn't read games well, do you mean legit copies of the game? or burned copies of the game?
Some burned copies just won't read well and will make funny noises in the DC when loading (kinda like a loud buzz every 3 seconds)

Bitman: Thanks for the warning.
It looks like LAN adapter is different from BROADBAND adapter

according to their main page:
includes: Lan adapter and Dreampassort 2 for Lan , click here for detail
this item is on big sale, - better get one today before it runs out.
it may not be compatible with online games

i don't know much about this adapter, but i'm guessing the model sold here is the japanese model (thus the japanese messages), and it's a bit different from the us model.
if you checkout the dreamcast manual page (go to broadband adapter), you can see the plug for the cable says "LAN" as well. so it may be the same thing.

Note again that the adapter may not be compatible with online games. This is also stated in the official DC manual page.

Awesome list!

A question; If I was to import Shenmue 2, and bought the Gameshark that plays imports, would Shenmue 2 work on my U.S system?

Something else worth noting, be careful when you buy overseas network devices. In short, 100baseT can be wired in an A configuration and a B configuration. Your wiring must match or you'll need a crossover cable to get it to work. the US uses A wiring and many overseas countries use the B wiring standard. Not sure what Japan uses, but thought I'd pass that along.

NEED HELP!!!

I've been waiting since Monday morning for Amazon to ship my DC Sports bundle (NBA/NFL/MLB 2K1 series) Today I was at TRU and found DC single units for $49.99. They also had a 5 off 50 coupon in the store. I then went to Target and bought NBA2K1 and NFL2K1 for $9.99 each, plus tax so:

49.99 + .59 (candy to get over 50) - 5.00 - .38 (tax) = 48.95
$9.99 + $9.99 + tax = 21.48

$48.95 + 21.48 = 70.43

On the other hand, Amazon when it ships will be

DC + NFL/NBA + MLB2K1 = $69.50

So far it's 1 dollar cheaper to get the bundle from Amazon, PLUS I get MLB 2K1. I checked the DC from TRU and it was made May 2000 so it will play bleem! GT2, and I don't know if the console from Amazon will pre Oct2000.

So do I cancel my order from Amazon and keep what I have w/o getting the MLB2K1, or do I wait and see what Amazon has for me. If the one from Amazon is post oct2000, how hard is it to return?

Ideas? Is MLB2k1 worth the wait?

-Pakaderm

Oh yeah, if I cancel the order, I get to play the DC much sooner, and I have it already.

Reviews (from various sources) seem to indicate that World Series Baseball 2K1 really isn't worth it. If you're happy with your purchase, it just might be better to cancel the Amazon order. Have fun!

I'll note that lik-sang (seems to be the top import store) states that the Broadband Adapter and LAN adapter are the same, and that they both work in all consoles.

However, the software that comes with the import version won't work without a bootdisk or a modchip.

If anyone orders one of these, give us a report.

I'm sure this was probably mentioned already, but using burned games does in fact shorten the life span of your DC. So if you find a game you really like for a good price, there is no reason you shouldn't pick it up. Unless, of course, rent's due!

Pak - If you can cancel Amazon, do it. Keep the system that you got and the games that you already have. And be glad that you found the games for so cheap. I wish my Target was consumer friendly. MLB isn't that great, and you have the solid system. So keep it.

Keep up the good work Geese!

Dreamcast LIVES!

Sega of Japan looks all set to blow the cobwebs off its Dreamcast plant, in order to re-start production of its formerly deceased console.
The move follows unexpectedly high demand for Dreamcast, and was preceded by Sega withdrawing thousands of units from the American market to be converted and shipped back to its home territory of Japan.

CRI, Sega`s manufacturing subsidiary has reported demand for Dreamcast almost on par with what it was this time last year. As a result, Sega has cranked up production and expects to have finished units in stores by February or March next year. Just in time to go head to head with Xbox.

It is good news, especially for Sega, that the multitudes have finally caught on to what a great console Dreamcast was, and the tons of top quality games it played host to. More rejuvenated Dreamcast news as we get it.

-------

This has got to be bogus. Of course there's high demand, it's frigging $50! Half the price of a PS1! If Sega didn't know there would be high demand at $50, then their forecasting department is about as smart as their marketing department. And why would Sega start cranking out more units of something it's losing vast amounts of money on? Maybe this is some inside joke I'm not getting and I'm making a total ass of myself...

I just picked up Royal Rumble for 9.90 at the target in Lakewood CA. They also had NFL 2k1 and a few others at that price.

This whole thing about the DC being produced again isn't true. All they're doing is shipping 2000 or so of the U.S. versions back to Japan, which will be converted to Japan units, because of the high demand there.
