So, is the interact/performance x2 memory card (that I got with the interact starter pack and mentioned above) good? Would it be a better idea to pay more and get a smaller Sega VMU? Or (if I don't need the LCD) will this be just fine?

Got a question.. Is there any difference between the Dreamcast consoles made in Japan, Indonesia or China? If you had to choose, which console would you rather have? One made in Indonesia or China? Is there a difference?

My 59 year old mom was over this afternoon and she's hooked on House of the Dead 2. She was watching me play it for a while and then she wanted to try and then I couldn't get the gun out of her hand.

bubba...I own 3 VMU's, but I wish I had larger memory cards instead of these. The VMU's have special little features that are neat, however when you play sports games like I do, the VMU's kind of suck. As others have noted, each game takes up practically its own card, which really sucks. One day when my wife is not around, I am going to go get a larger 4x card, that way my memory troubles will be over. In the meantime, I have to play with memory blocks to maximize the number of games per vmu. Keep the 2x, you won't regret it.

I bought a Gameshark Massive memory card, 16x and includes a cable to up/download to a pc, $20 at an EB. Guess I can now smash my other memory cards and play NFL2k2 on century mode.

I guess I was more concerned about the quality than the volume of storage. I was hoping the interact/performance was a reliable memory card, 'cause then I get 2x the memory capacity. Now if it is not reliable, I could just get a couple of sega cards instead.

BTW, this 2x is done in a way like some of the PS1 2x sticks. You push a button to toggle between 2 200 block memory chips. An LED on the front tells you if you are in 1 or 2. Kinda simple, I guess.

I've read enough bad things about the Interact line of VMUs that I completely avoid them. It's been said that their problem stems from the memory compression they use in the VMUs.

I believe most, if not all, higher capacity VMUs access the memory in "pages" -- very much the way you explained it. I'm not aware of a VMU that has more than 200 contiguous blocks of memory for use.

That is what I had heard as well. That is why I figured that these were OK. I would guess that the switch on the top switches between 2 separate 200 block units, and it doesn't use compression. Can anyone confirm that?

It has a switch on top, 2 LEDs on the front. I can put two different icons for each the memory units. Thus when I am at the memory screen I can toggle between 2 separate 200 block memory units, each with their separate icons.

I think the ones that compress require you to use special software, or at least they do on the PS2. This doesn't require anything special to work.

Does that make anything clearer???

Woohoo!! Number 1012!! I had been campaiging for that number since it's my lucky number and all.

Anybody got information on the consoles made in Indonesia? I had never heard of a console made in Indonesia and wondered if might be of looser QC than the others..

question: if the interact 4x mem card is so unreliable, then why does sega's OWN 4x mem card have exactly the same design?
in case you can't tell, i like my 3rd party mem cards very much, thank you.
some interact ASSOCIATES (pelican and whatnot) are unreliable to some degree, but i have found the interact PERFORMANCE line to EXCEED that of sega's OWN in areas of reliability and ergonomics...
and i've been playing from before the games/system went on clearance.

Thanks Unclebud! That is what I needed to know.

I was thinking about just getting a Sega controller and VMU. It would cost the same as the Interact 2x mem unit, the tremor pack, and the Astropad combo. If the memory is reliable, that is one big plus for the Interact combo.

The Astropad is a bit odd. On the plus side, it is bigger and puts less strain on my wrists than the Sega controller. However, it does feel a bit cheap. Choices, choices...

Bump for the revival of Dreamcast @ Best Buy! The system isn't listed with the other video games, but there is a link to the "Dreamcast Store" now on the right hand side by special deals.

Also, check out for the $5 coupon from Best Buy, I plan on using mine for another cheap VMU.

My local Wal-Mart had a few games still available. Most were still $20-30, but I found "The New Tetris" for $4.84. Not the best game in the world, but you Tetris junkies out there would enjoy it.

Guys, this is my first hot deal, and this thread is so huge i do not know if it was posted yet.

ebgames.com has Seaman with the Microphone for just 12.99

This was an innovative game, and well worth the 13 bucks from what I hear.

I also got NCAA2K2 for 20 bucks

If you're looking for that 4x Sega memory card, it *looks* like buyritegames.com might have it available and in stock. The picture is of the Sega model, but the description says it has a port for connection to a PC -- did the Sega model have that?? In any case, it might be worth a call or *gasp* email to them.

4x Sega(?) memory card, $29.99

I was surfing through my links of stores that sell console stuff and came across some stuff at vdo-specialties.com

S-Video cable for $3.48

'DREAMCAST DREAM AV CABLE' (has both composite [A/V] and S-video out for $5.88

Various RF adapters for around $4

'DREAMCAST TREMORPAK PLUS' (listed under memory cards) for $13.79 - I have one of these, they're sweet. It's a combo rumble pack and 200 block memory card, no switch or anything. Reliable saves and good vibration.

'DREAMCAST 4X TRUE MEMORY' for $12.59

DREAMCAST EXTENSION CABLE for $2.03 (I presume this one is 3 foot long, but it doesn't specify)

DREAMCAST DREAM CABLE for $3.48 (6 foot long)

For those in Dallas still needing one, I saw 3 NYKO S-Video Cables for $0.99 at the Comp USA at Park Lane and US 75 (Central Expy) last night.
