i am just waiting for my in-store pickup confirmation, this deal is indeed hot and with free half life 2, this is a $450ish retail valve for about $330 after taxes (at least in washington)

Why is that? Last time I looked, CC don't PM rebates. So you only would get the 10% difference between their cost, and BB cost, which is not $50.

Hmmm. Maybe YOUR CC doesn't PM rebates, I've never had any problems whatsoever...Lucky Me! So, In my case, it would be an additional $5.00 off, with no rebate hassle. TAAADAAA!

If your CC PMs rebates, your one lucky SOB! Last time I talked to the manager, they said "No, CC will ever do this.".

I'd say try another CC. The last thing I PM'd an after rebate price to was the Western Digital 250 GB drive against Frys price. They looked at their AR price, and Frys AR price, then made up the difference.
I've got to make a trip up there to do a return today, so I'm tempted to go ahead and do it...HOWEVER...

IMHO, the thing to do with this if you're going to try for a PM somewhere else, or even if your not and just want to buy it from BB...wait until the middle or end of the week. Why you say?? Smart money would say to make sure that Black Friday falls within your 30 day PM/Return period, because I'd bet even money that the price on these cards (or something similiar) will be significantly reduced in some shape or form for Black Friday...if you buy it now, you're hosed- as you'd be outside of the 30 days!!!

Also, this is listed in the BB flyer for this week. Saw it in the paper this morning...so you've got it in print for the AR price!

I would try another CC, but the next one is over 100 miles away. I was looking at the online site , and it seems you guys are damn lucky since:

I agree about buying it say on friday or sat, BUT, that is only if they have enough stock! Also note that last time on blackFriday, they had a really crappy low end card for cheap price. They never had a high end card for a cheap price though.

Ah, but the 9800 pro isn't being phased out or anything...so it should be easy enough to get a raincheck on it.

The price has dropped $100 in the last 30 days or so (first with the $50 IR, now with an additional $50 MIR). Chances are it will continue to drop. So even even if it doesn't have a blowout special on BF, I'd hedge my bets.

yeah, black friday usually has an off brand/mid-range card as its uber gfx card deal. and it's usually some bad rebate that has to wait for 6 months to get (anyone else remember the visiontek rebate on the ti200 from two years ago?). not to mention you have to get there an hour before opening in order to get one. $300 would probably hold through the holiday, with the XT and the 5950 eventually coming down from $500 or whatever lofty price they're at.

I'd agree with you, except for the fact that:

a) You don't have to get there an hour to get one if you already have one, just have to get there at some point for the pricematch (if it happens to be the same card).

b) The ATI Fanboys have been saying for the last month that the price would stay where it was at on the 9800pro in order for ATI to justify the pricetag on the XT series...but low and behold, they've dropped $100 (almost 25%) in 30 days.

The choice is there. The rebate is good thru the end of the month, so I highly doubt that Bestbuy only has a few of these, especially since the 9800pro is in no danger of going extinct anytime soon (and even then, I'm personally going for a AR PM at CC anyway, not buy it at BB). My point is just to wait until the end of the week (or at least inside of the 30 days of BF) to hedge your bets. No skin off my nose if no one chooses to do that, of course, but this forum is about hot deals- but to pass up a possible future PM on a day KNOWN for good deals (everywhere, not just PITA Best Buy) in order to get the card 3 days earlier doesn't make sense to me at all...especially with nothing out that REQUIRES the 9800pro to play out at the moment (No HL 2 )

Rebate was good and I still have that card in my system. Plays all games just fine so far.

when you get this from worst buy make sure they print out the mail in rebate and the form for the half life 2 send in. as usual NO ONE at worst buy had a clue what the hell this deal was all about and they almost didnt give me the mail in rebate and form for half life 2 so i sat there and bitched and asked how the hell i was supposed to get the game if there was no coupon inside the box (like stated on the outside of the box for the xt models). bunch of idiots over there i swear to god!

You know, it is amazing that these idiots get away with it. It could have been someone from the store that did the old switch routine, or it could have been another person that has access to a shrink wrap machine.

What you need to do is call the cops. Yeah, them, since FRAUD *is* involved. After they do their police report, you get a copy, and then you talk to manager again. Then ask for district office manager. If that fails, (You already did the BBB), then contact the AG for your state. Then small claims court if that fails.

You need PROOF of the fraud, that is why you need the police report, in case you want to goto court.

That is why I always open any item I get from ANY store in the car so I can check it out. (This is also the reason why they are using more clear boxes now--although NOT ati.

Opening up the box is a good idea, as Elixer stated...however, if you take it outside the store, and open it in your car, it's no different than if you took it all the way to your house, as you're outside the store and there is no proof (from their perspective) that you couldn't have simply swapped it out in your car.

Open the stuff up INSTORE, they can't argue with you about squat then.

the HL2 voucher requires copy of receipt and original upc code

*see the fine print on the forms (when they print them out for you) to confirm this is right. im just going off of what i remember from mine at home
