I was looking at BB site and found out there's two rebates for the 9800pro. One needs original upc the other asks for a copy of upc. So send original to HL2 offer and copy for rebate.

yup thats exactly the deal. i think what is gonna happen is that you take the receipt/form they give you to send in for the HL2 deal and ATI in return is gonna mail you out the voucher which you in then either return to them when the game comes out stating you want the cd or you use the activation key on the voucher for a steam account download.

True, however I've stopped worrying about that since the last return I did at BestBuy, the customer service person turned to the guy next to her and said "Here, can you take this in the back and shrinkwrap it for me?"...

So what's your point here, they do shrink wrap from that? So why would that stop worrying you?
Thanks.

It means I stopped worrying about the wierd stares when I open the box up instore (as opposed to doing it outside), and yes MY BestBuy does in fact shrinkwrap returns.

Just bought mine On-line
Set it up to pick up the item IN-STORE
Printed out the Half Life 2 Rebate form
Printed out the $50.00 Rebate for card
Printed Order confimration screens

Is there anything else I need to do?

When I go to Best Buy tonight to pick up the card and I open it...What should I look for to prove this card is indeed brand new and the one I ordered?

Hey guys...

Are you sure that you won't lose your ability to PM if you buy it online for instore pickup? I'd always thought that was the case:

Per BB.com's online policy:

What are your pricing policies?

Online prices and selection generally match our retail stores, but may vary. Prices and offers are subject to change.

Store Price Guarantee
If, within 30 days (14 days for computers, monitors, printers and notebooks, camcorders, digital cameras and radar detectors) of your purchase from Best Buy, you find a local competitor offering a lower price on an available product of the same brand and model, we'll refund the difference plus another 10% of the difference. Bring us verification of the lower price, plus your original Best Buy receipt to claim your refund. Does not apply to BestBuy.com pricing, special, bonus or free offers, and in California cellular phones and pagers. Does not apply to products with special financing offers. For complete price guarantee details, please see a customer service representative. We reserve the right to limit quantities. See store for complete details.

Online Price Guarantee
At this time we do not have a price match guarantee. However, if you purchase an item online or at a store kiosk and choose store pickup, and the item is offered at a lower price when you pick it up, you will be charged the lower price.

I'd be very wary about this, especially with BF coming up. Of course, I suppose you could maybe do a return/rebuy or something to get around it if need be-

good point man. i really dont know. if someone hits this deal up can you ask the sales people? i doubt they will know since they are probably the most clueless sales drones of any electronics chain, but its worth a shot.

Yea, to anyone, if you're out there looking for a new video card, this is a crazy deal. The retail 9800 Pro alone is ~$350 at newegg, and here you're getting that and HL2 for $300, granted after MIR and taxes but that's still great. Kinda makes me wish I had waited...

With all of the concerns over reshrink wrapping and previously opened in-store boxes does it not make more sense to simply order it directly online? This way the prodcut comes straight from the distribution center and never has a chance to be tampered with in-store.

Since both coupons are available from the web site a shipping delay is the only potential caveat I can imagine.

I picked mine up last night at the B&M and it was fine. The rebate printed, the HL2 deal printed, and it was indeed a 9800 Pro. Installed without a hitch.

Congrats! How does the 9800 Pro compare to the 9700 Pro you replaced?

I pick mine up today from best Buy. I will let everyone know how it goes.

Hey Zodder, what on the card can I look at to make sure it is the 9800 pro version? (I will not be installing this right away)

So far the card has been great. I installed the Catalyst 3.8 drivers, Powerstrip, and away she went at 400/350. I haven't noticed too much of a difference between the 9700 Pro and the 9800 Pro. I think because it's not that big of a technological jump. So far I'm very happy with it, though.

Mine clearly stated "9800 Pro" on the card itself.

Thanks again for the links... I will report back. I am going from a Ti4400 (128mb) to this 9800 PRO. I will test the speeds before and after...

Damn ... willpower fading. Must not buy top-of-the-line video card. Must wait ... can't.

Screw it. Picking one up tonight.
