Office Max:

Imation 50pk DVD-R/+R $18
Imation 25pk DVD-R/+R $10
Imation 10pk DVD+RW $9

anyone know/see if these are MIJ?

Office Depot:

Maxell 25pk DVD-R/+R $9

good if MIJ

CompUSSR:

TDK 50pk DVD-R/+R $20

good if MIJ

"Best" Buy:

TDK 50pk DVD-R/+R $20
Fuji 25pk DVD-R/+R $15 - $5 Rebate = $10

good if MIJ, the Fuji deal is warm at best since there's a rebate

i think all these disks are 8x rated, i've gotten both TDK and Fuji w/ MIJ, both had the same TY codes, YUDEN000T02.
most are down to $0.40/disk, personally im going to go for the Maxell @ $0.36/disk if its MIJ

edit: i only found DVD-R Maxell MIJ @ OD (i really wanted DVD+R ) Code shows up as MXL RG03. Works great so far! I did find some DVD-R/+R, however, they had MIJ on the side, but a sticker was on top of it and it said MIT

good if you get MCC. bad if not.

these are B&M deals, so you can go in the store and see if they do carry MIJ, to see if you can get TY's or some top-tier equivalent.

MIJ (Made In Japan) are generally made by Taiyo Yuden. Others are normally made in Taiwan and are lower quality media such as CMC or Optorite.

that's actually one way to easily spot TY discs. they use that "scalloped" base spindle. afaik, they are the only ones that i've seen like that.

So... is this crap? Since it's from India I figure yes, but I don't really know much about this dvd media stuff. I just buy whatever is cheapest at the time and nothing has failed me yet.

heres a picture of one:

http://tinyurl.com/artjr

notice how the "top" part covers nearly the whole spindle...
best decription i could give you is it just looks and feels bulky and larger than normal one.

This might be a n00b question, but how do you tell which ones are made in Japan? Does it actually say "made in japan" on the package?
