Thanks - this thing if overclocked to 200MHz and 2300 blows away the PIV 3GHz ($400 or more) bigtime - for $96 it totally rulz...

I got in on it

Anyone who does not know whichg mobo to use GET THE EPOX 8RDA+ for $89 (also newegg) - if you get the latest stepping of NB and SB you will be able to do 10x220 or better.

Yo

P.s.: Anyone who does not understand stepping, NB and SB please check out the tech forums - I am not going to explain it here...

Man, I'd love to get this chip! 512K L2 cache, 333 bus. Too bad my old Abit KR7A-RAID won't support it :|

Thanks. Just ordered. Don't suppose the Newegg employees will be working tomorrow. Just gives me an extra day to think about ordering some memory.

Newegg and Googlegear are about the only places that I order from. In my experience Newegg usually ships a day quicker, but Newegg free shipping is usally 3 day Fedex Saver (I live in Kansas) while Googlegear ships 2day UPS for free on most products. I also believe that Newegg doesn't charge restocking while Googlegear does, correct me if I am wrong on that statement. Both are great and have the best prices on most items, especially ram, cpus, and hard drives.

Show me ANY benchmark, from a credible site, where a Barton @ 2300 mhz will "blow away" a 3GHZ P4. I have yet to see one. If there is a set of bench's that it wins, then I will eat my words. I just have yet to see it.

is this better than a thouroughbred B 2400+ chip?
I was just goin to do a Springdale and the 2.4C but this stopped me in my tracks and I fell into the Newegg deal @ $96.
I guess it as AMD intended.
Lucky me

Anybody know what SETI times these get at stock? Looking for an upgrade from my 2000+ for games and SETI.
Ya, I kinda wonder too. My 2100 is OCd to 13*166 and can even get to a stable 202 bus w/ lower multipler. I run 166 bus and crunch Seti in roughly 2:20-2:50. Faster than my P4 2.66@3.0. Great price though.

2300 MHz Barton in PR rating speak is Athlon XP 3400+ as you can see here.

Rufio, Barton is Thoroughbred B with double cache. Thinking was that double L2 cache makes up for the 166 MHz slower 2500+ over 2400+. Double cache helps with multi tasking and really helps with intensive applications and games.

I jumped on the 2500 Barton (retail) from Googlegear last Friday in the afternoon for $96. Newegg was still $107 at the time. Then later in the night, Newegg matched at $96. Both are good vendors, but Newegg has the edge. Oh well, without Googlegear, Newegg would have not matched this price. Something for everybody!

Is there any word on whether there are different trays/weeks of this chip which OC better?

Read two posts up jr. Touroughbred had two revisions. This only matters for overclocking because revision B can overclock higher. Barton is basically a Thoroughbred B with double L2 cache so it's better. Check out the link to the table two posts up for comparison.

As for newegg vs googlegear, I ordered a mobo from newegg and a CPU from googlegear at the same time. Both were received at the same time. I was able to track the purchase better with newegg: same day info on order being processed, packed, and tracking number emailed on the same day. Googlegear was a day behind in providing tracking and general order status info. Both do arrive at the same time but googlegear needs to get its order status info up to speed to compete with newegg when prices are the same.

Not really, I would order from NewEgg even IF the product I was looking at was a few dollars more because you are gauranteed a hassle-free and restocking-fee-free experience from NewEgg... not to mention awesome customer service and same/next day shipping o_0

fticomputers.com lowered their price to $90. No tax for CA residents (yay) so it matches newegg price w/ $6 ups ground shipping.

I just received a "Systembuilder/Reseller" email this morning from AMD. The first topic reads:

Processor Price Drop Effective May 26, 2003!
AMD announces a price move for select AMD processor products
effective May 26, 2003. Call your AMD authorized distributor for
more details.

I checked the AMD site for more details but didn't find anything. My question is, is this why the prices have dropped so dramatically in the last week? Or should we all be waiting a few days for further price drops?
Hmmmmmm, pondering....pondering...

Im not talking about a PR rating, im talking about a real life benchmark, say Commanche 4, Q3A, DiVX encoding, Lame encoding, etc etc etc.
