I was doing the research recently, and honestly, at stock speeds, both CPUs are about the same. Barton gets a slight edge due to the L2 cache but it is giving up 166 MHz to the TBred XP 2400+. So in some workloads, it'll do better and in some, it can even trail. Most users will probably prefer Barton because it "feels smoother" due to the larger L2 cache.Originally posted by: Rufio

Can anyone comment on the warranty issue w.r.t. to thermal compound? AMD was reported to revoke the warranty if we use thermal compound. I have a new Thermalright HS and Arctic Silver 3 waiting, and would be very interested in picking up this CPU. But not if I lose warranty coverage (not that I ever expect a CPU to fail).
