Asus release a bios update today or early yesterday that allows the p5b (non deluxe) to 650fsb. Dont know if its stable up that high but Asus has always been good with ocing. I got my 6300 dual p95 stable for about 2hrs @ 3.0 w/430fsb on the p5b (non deluxe) havent had the chance for 8hrs

Gary what kind of temps have you been getting idle and under load. Im rather interested because im @ 3.3 stable but im getting 40C (load) with speedfan yet asus probe II tells me 68. Idle im getting 35 with speedfan and 50-53 with the probe. Ive heard asus has a rep. for bad temp sensors but which do i believe?

Actually I'm interested if the FSB is sustainable for 24/7.

Oh and while you're here, I have an off-topic question. I can't decide but maybe it'd be an easy decision for you.

With an E6700 @3.6GHz,

1. DDR2-720 (FSB:Memory=1:1) / Timings 3-3-3
2. DDR2-900 (FSB:Memory=4:5) / Timings 4-4-3

Thanks. I'm running 1.4v on my E6300 on an Abit AB9. I'm stable up to about 390 MHz on the FSB (which I'm thrilled with). Interestingly, I was stable (same voltages & everything) up to about 330 MHz before the last bios update from Abit -- which really impressed upon me the importance of a good motherboard, good support, and the right bios.

Nice to see what's possible. I'm also wondering if I can push the 2.2v on my Corsair Valueselect any further. Anyone have thoughts?

Gary what is it in the Asus Bios that makes us hit a wall? Is fsb termination voltage the same as MCH voltage? Cause on the P5B vanilla there is only fsb termination.
Before I go on, I have a e6300, corsair 675mhz 4-4-4-12 1.9v ram, Radeon x850xt, Coolermaster hyper L3 cpu cooler, 50mm fan on chispet with pink bubble gum removed and replaced with arctic silver 5. 0107 bios had a wall at 325, 0211: 375, 0213: 400. Now I can do 415 stable! Before I could not do over 2.6ghz (372 fsb) stable. To test to see if the bios was the limiting factor, when I flashed I did not set to clear the cmos, fsb termination was at 1.3, vcore set to 1.7v, ram set to 5-5-5-15 rest untouched. Now I'm doing over 300mhz more stable at 2.9ghz!
I can post into windows at 3.2ghz 450x7 but super pee gives me errors.
At 450x7 I ran burn w/ sisopht sandra 07, max temp Asus probe showed was 61c, I touched the HSF at various palces like the heat pipes and it was a little warm to the touch, not hot at all.
Maybe the temps are overrated?
Also, what are you so afraid of with the voltage? Aslong as a chip has a big piece of metal on it it can go to high temps then crash before it can bur. I did this on an athlon xp, turned of fan ran burn in at max temp, did 74c and froze. Left an imprint on the hsf and still ran great after reboot.
I set my termination to 1.45v, vcore to 1.7v but it shows 1.58 on asus probe, don't get the v-drop.
Can it be that asus just boosts the mch voltage that we can't see that makes the board more stable after bios release?

High voltage can destroy the transistors making you CPU useless before it is "burned". Cooking the CPU is the last thing you will see.

SNDS (Sudden Northwood Death Syndrom) is a prime example of excessive voltages killing CPUs. It's real.
If you think the ASUS Probe reports overrated temperatures, try CoreTemp, which reports temperatures of CPU die itself instead of temperature read somewhere on the motherboard.

Gary, were the tests done on P5B-Deluxe or P965-DQ6? The pictures show DQ6 with Zalman HSF.

Edit: It seems obvious that it's DQ6. I am going to do the same tests with an E6700 to see how the 4MB compares with 2MB. Also curious what PSU that is? It looks very neat.

Edit2: On a second thought in no way my board will do 500FSB.. Well, so that's that. When can we expect some in-depth round-up of P965 boards?

I can boot all day long at 545~550 (from the bios), even do CPU-Z, but no way will our boards (gigabyte or asus) run SP2004 or Prime Dual at those speeds, unless we mod them. I can boot at 530 and use clock gen to get to 545 also and bump the memory down to lower settings and get a few benchmarks to run. Our results were pulling a new board out of a retail box (p5Bdlx), booting it at 7x525 in the bios, and then having it pass every benchmark including running dual prime for the last 18 hours at 1.45V VCore.

The issue is not with the core being on air or not considering the VCore settings, it is the capability of the memory. The Corsair PC8500 I use tops out around 7x505, the new OCZ I am using tops out around 550 although the entire setup is not stable at that FSB and I seriously doubt it would be on liquid.

Which OCZ ram are you using? I've been having problems reaching above 375 FSB with my OCZ Platnium sticks (400mhz@4-5-4-15) on my E6400 It's not a CPU limitation since 8x375 is fine, but 6x400 refuses to boot.

Are you using any special BIOS settings?
