Are you able to reach this performance with most E6300s you have or you cherry picked one to show here?

I mean, the average Joe with a similar hardware will get similar results or do we have to try a couple of CPUs until one can do reach that speed?

In my understanding, this kind of result is the best one can expect, but in most cases it will be worse than that.

It would be useful also for us if you could list the bios settings used on your experiment (and also the E6400/Gigabyte on the other thread).

Hi all,

I'm new to your forums and have a bit of a problem with my allendale....

I use E6300, DS3 bios F4, Zalman 7700, 2*512 Corsair XSM2 6400, GF7900GT.
The problem is terrible temps, at 450*7 stock voltage E6300 idles at 47c and full load 65-68c according to EasyTune5.
Other programs, such as Coretemp or Everest or SysTool report approx.10c higher. Bios readings are in line with Easytune5.

I reset the cooler 6 times, with 3 different thermal pastes, no change or for worse.
Contact seemes ok, best results with adding paste only to midle of the heatspreader. If I spread it all over it, temps will rise.
And I know the amount to use...

Is it possible either the zalman or E6300 is slightly bent so it will affect temps but I dont see it when I take the cooler of...?
Does bios version affect cpu diode readings?

I never had a Zalman 7700, but my bets on it. Can you try a different cooler?

Janne2, I am using the all-copper Zalman 7700Cu cooler on my E6300 with raised voltages and Artic Silver 5, but my idle temps are in the low 30's. When my room is cool my load temp is only around the mid 40's with 1.356vcore and two instances of folding@home. So I would assume you are using the aluminum/copper mix 7700cu? Also even with a tricked out P180b case the case heated up quickly, so if your case is closed than that would be the problem. And it is always possible the cooler isn't making full contact, I had to turn each screw just slightly and alternate between them for a minute before I could fully tighten both 7700Cu mounting screws.

Gary, that is simply impressive! Very nice to see some Asus hardware showing off what it can do! When my Scythe Ninja arrives it shold drop my temps by 10c worst case scenario, so I should be able to give your OC a run for it's money...

I see you have the same sticks as me, but what the hell? 1.95V? The site states they need 2.1v, so I was setting 2.15 (in case of vdroop). I guess I'll have to try that, as I've tried everything else already.

@Kougar; No, it's not the AlCu version, it's full copper one. Room temp is 26c and if I open the case E6300 idles at 45-46c. And raising the rpm on the fan doesent seem to affect anythin. A 1c or 2 at most. Really od because havent head 7700's having bad contact surfaces as 9500's did...
Only option seems spendig 50? to get a Big Typhoon...

What volts are you using? After looking more closely, with that high a room temp and high volts then I can easily believe your temps. I have mine plugged directly into the motherboard CPU fan header and have disabled the DS3's fan control, so it is running full bore 24/7.

I would personally suggest getting a Scythe Ninja as it easily bests a Typhoon or Zalman 9500 both in performance and acoustics both. And I've already put my money where my mouth is, I have a Ninja arriving shortly to play with...

I am pretty new to trying to OC. I have had a friend trying to help me out, but haven't had much luck.

I have the E6300, P5B Deluxe and Corsair XMS2 6400Pro. The timings are: 5-5-5-12. I have to manually set those or else it defaults to: 5-5-5-18.

Also have a Zalman cooler, so I am not too worried about heat.

So I have pretty much hit a wall when it comes to overclocking and it seems to be pretty low. I can reliably hit an FSB of 310 and run Benchmarks.

I think at most with that I had to set my VCore to 1.365

Anything over that and it is like pulling teeth. I may be lucky to get into windows by upping the VCore pretty high 1.5V at least.

Not sure what other settings to try. I am hoping you guys might be able to help me out here.

Any suggestions?

Volts were 1.325, now 1.3 and still prime stable!!! At 460*7.
I think I need something that will blow down, NB is blazing at 450--460 fsb. Stock volts.

Yes, 400+ FSB places quite a demand on the NB. Thus, it will get VERY hot. A fan blowing down may not be enough. Aftermarket cooling on the NB may be necessary.

My P5B used pink chinese bubble for the NB sink. I removed it, spread a thin layer of AS5, and zip tied an evercool 50mm fan on it. It runs warm to the touch though probe shows only 33c the most (I think it's wrong).

Well it would help to know what hardware you have. I am running a Gigabyte DQ6 with the E6300 and Corsair 6400C4 memory. I am stable all day at a 500MHz FSB and my memory is at 1000MHz @5-5-5-15.

What is the speed of your memory? What have you set your vcore and mch to? Is you memory value? Can it handle the speed you are running it at?

Also make sure you lock the PCI Express to 100MHz and PCI to 33.3 (if you have the option).

I was able to remain stable up to around 425MHz on stock vcore. At 500MHz I am at 1.4250v with an extra .15v on the MCH and +.15v for the FSB.

So let us know (exactly) what hardware you have. I know the P5B and E6300 are overclocking very well, in fact almost as well as the Gigabyte DQ6. However as with all these 956 boards if you do not have good memory you will never hit 500MHz and up.
