I went to change motherboards, and I noticed that pad had melted.
Anything wrong with that? I'd hate to shell out like 10 bucks for that thermal compound stuff.
You should definitely replace the thermal interface material in some way. You can take the old pad off and either put a new pad on or use some thermal grease. You can get cheap thermal grease from Radio Shack or something like that, or get Arctic Silver II here for $6.99 shipped.
Whether a new pad or grease...u have to replace the current pad on ur HSF. Pad can only be used ONCE. Clean ur HSF & CPU core w/ nail polish remover. Then apply new pad or grease.
