The Planar sounds like a nice display, from what I've read about it.

I got my 4th nec today. This one is certainly the best one their rma dept has sent. But its got 1 stuck red pixel in the upper left hand corner and some backlight bleed. So now I have to decide weather to keep the HP W2207 which has zero stuck or dead pixels and slight back light bleed, or stick with the nec which has 1 stuck red pixel. The HP is a TN panel. Need some opinions here, what would you guys do, keep the nec with the stuck pixel or the HP with a perfect no dead or stuck pixel screen?

Tough call on that one. I'd use both for a couple days and see which one you like better.

I have some interesting news. I bought a 2253BW monitor to try out and tested out the input lag compared to the Samsung 245BW. According to my results, the 245BW has atleast an average of 15ms of input lag......

the 2253BW is FAST, very fast.......... I would say no input lag fast, but I dont have a CRT to confirm that. The problem with the 2253BW is it makes a humming noise when the brightness is below 70, freaking annoying.... Will post more when I know more .

Btw, I think I am the reason Best Buy changed there return policy to 14 days

I am not purposely going to these places to buy and return, but every damn monitor has a defect, or some kind of problem.......

The Planar sounds like a nice display, from what I've read about it.

I only saw it in games like everquest or warcraft. The landscame scenery would flicker when you moved around due to the response time. what would happen is the whole landscape would briefly lighten before the pixels completely faded, then it would return to normal. as the frame rate dropped further below 60 (still images on the screen longer) the flickering got worse... it was like looking at a crt set to 60hz but waaaaay worse

I am thinking of the LENOVO ThinkVision L220x for my wife as she does web design Macromedia and ACDSee Pro2 for photos and Adobe Photoshop c3. This should be ok for her and she does play the SIMS and UT, lol.

I am still wanting the Planar PX-2611W if they clear up there problems xtknight mentioned.

wow sweet u got one? I've been waiting for it to come to a retail store. Best Buy for business has it and so does Circuit City's website but when I popped in to the local Best Buy on Wednesday I couldn't see any yet. I think the humming noise is a defect so maybe you should swap it. I had one 2232BW that didn't do it, then switched it for another one because I thought it had an S panel and it made the humming noise. Any chance you could look in the secret service menu and let us know what panel it has? I am hoping the first shipments at least are all S panels. To get in the menu do this if you don't know how.

"Set contrast and brightness to zero and then press the Sourcebutton for 5 seconds. Look at the Panel info line. There should be an incomprehensible phrase such as M-ME22W0BAA-1002. It?s the letters in bold face, especially those in the middle, which are determinant (based on current understanding)"

PS How much were they charging 339?

Has anyone else noticed the new 22" model 2253BW from Samsung popping up at various online sites? So far Circuit City, Newegg and Best Buy Business has them in on-line stock but none of the local B&M stores as of yet. Am kinda surprised has little search information exists for this model other than some product release snipits.

Monitors are one of the few things I would rather buy from a B&M store rather than mail order (even if a bit more expensive) so just in case of a bum monitor/pixels can just swing by for an exchange rather then ship it out and play the waiting game.

yeah I am doing the same thing. I posted about seeing it a few pages back I think. according to the other post I just replied to some Best Buys might have them in stock now.

Hi has anyone tried this monitor yet?
I'm looking for a good multi-purpose monitor but mostly gaming and movies?

Anyone's thoughts are welcome.

~Review frustrated~!

Trying to boil down all my options is killing me. Way too much info!

Ok so I am looking at 24 and above. Main application is gaming. MMO's and FPS. With the occasional web browsing. I have a decent video card 8800 GTS 512, so running a dual link 30 is an option.

My concerns: lag, correct color, easy of use and sharp text. In that order.

If any of you have a top three recommendation, please let me know.

well, i can't say much about 24"..but your best bet above 24" and below 30" (if input lag is a big concern) is the planar px2611w. 30" is probably not a good idea because its resolution will result in not-so-good fps for recent games

I currently have a Dell 2005WFP (I believe that's what it was, they were all the rage when I bought mine a couple years ago)

I want to get a second monitor to match it. I see the 2007WFPs are still out and it doesn't look like the 2008FP is coming out anytime soon, I'm fine with going nondell, but none of the decent looking non-dell LCDs have the hight adjustment and rotation abilities of my current 2005WFP, and I really want that for the new monitor.
should I get a 2007WFP (i've heard there may be problems with them) or is there something else I can get that will be good and has the features I want + good gaming abilities, etc..

(sorry for rambleness of this post)

Sure, the 2007WFP is actually pretty decent image-wise. And you'd be used to its setup/features, etc.

Well, after juggling my choices to fit into my budget and my wants/needs I decided I would give the Viewsonic VX2435 a chance. I have been waffling for about a month now because every LCD monitor I looked at has some kind of problem or is too expensive. I do moderate gaming and web design. I was on my way to Fry's to pick up a Samsung 245bw to see if I could deal with a TN Panel after searching for a retail store that carried the Viewsonic and coming up empty. To my surprise on display at Fry's was a VX2435 for $499!!! I was ecstatic until I found out that it was reduced price due to being a floor model and that they were not going to restock because this monitor is being discontinued (no wonder it is not in any stores). Just before I sank back into LCD depression I asked if they could check some other Fry's locations. There was only one Fry's in the LA area that had 2 in stock. One floor model and one open box return. I figured I would take a risk on the open box, worse coming to worse I could return it to Viewsonic for a replacement. Fry's gave me an additional 10% off so it cost me $449. Once I got home and set it up it looks amazing just like the floor models did. I am so glad I chose a VA panel instead of a TN even if the input lag is worse.

One quick question. Does anyone have the color profile for this monitor or recommended adjustments? I realize that every monitor is a little different but I don't have any calibration equipment and I would like to at least get closer to calibrated than I am at default.

Thanks for the helpful resource xtknight!

Glad you're happy w/ the VX2435.

DigitalVersus has calibration profiles here, including one for the VX2435: http://www.digitalversus.com/article-424-2909-141.html

In particular, I'm not sure. Maybe ErgoTron brand...

Xtknight, What is your opinion of the HP W2007 If I might ask I wish I could find an Icc profile calibrated for it...

It's better than the w2207 and in fact its image quality is quite decent. Obviously it's not as good as the 20WMGX2 but we've covered this a million times (TN vs IPS). Glossy panel will increase contrast and reduce black depth.

Well if she's working in mainly the sRGB color space these monitors could be worse than other choices since they're distort the end product by making it overly dull (since the monitor itself is showing sRGB overly vibrant in Adobe RGB mode). But they may even be your best options now. If you're going for 22" you could look at Eizo standard gamut models.

You can also emulate sRGB through Photoshop, I don't know about ACDSee. And the web standard is also sRGB.

There's actually quite a difference between sRGB and Adobe RGB so make sure you know what you want.

I'd keep the NEC any day. I live w/ two dead pixels on my LCD26 and one is closer to the center of the screen. Off and on you can see them but it's not a big deal.

Well, that's good to know. Thanks for the info. That might mean the 2253BW you have is an S panel or that the 2253BW isn't any worse than the well-renowned 226BW! The 2232BW actually had 2-3 frames of input lag.

I got a 226BW a few days ago and through the service menu found out it's a CMO model, not an S. The picture is amazing! Everything is bright, clear and crisp and I haven't noticed any ghosting (at least compared to my 19" crt).

However, one thing is REALLY annoying me. There is significant backlight bleeding at the very top of the screen that is very noticeable. The image doesn't even have to be dark for me to notice it and it extends up to 1cm. There's some backlight bleeding on the left and right but nothing that I can't ignore. The top, however, is annoying me.

Did I just get a defective model or is this common with the CMO panel?

For those of you considering the Samsung 2232BW, the supposed Samsung flagship successor (in that price range) to the 226BW.

I just picked up one at Best Buy a few days ago. Here's what I found...

Samsung is once again playing the panel lottery with this LCD. There are four panels that can be found in this LCD. I ended up with the 'CMO' version of the panel from Best Buy.

The LCD had a horrible blue dominance that could not be corrected with either a 'color reset' or by using their MagicColor(MagicTune?) functionality.

Really bad backlight leakage problem along the bottom. We're talking about 1-1.25 inches here.

LCD was so bright that I could not find an acceptable brightness/contrast level no matter how much I turned them down. It was either "burn your retinas" bright or dingy gray. This probably has nothing to do with this LCD having a "CMO" panel. The LCD was set to the lowest of the 3 gamma settings. The other two were insanely bright.

The blue (or red) dominance and the backlight leakage are known problems with this LCD's 'CMO' panel.

Needless to say, I returned the 2232BW to BB for a full refund. I've actually ordered a colorimeter because I do a ton of photo editing for my online store but I have no idea if I could have corrected the color problem with this LCD...and honestly, why should I have to?

I am not purposely going to these places to buy and return, but every damn monitor has a defect, or some kind of problem.......
In the $280-330 price range, we are getting 'consumer-level' (not professional-level) items that are all, in some way, a compromise. Maybe things get better when you drop a lot more coin but I'm not sure. It seems that not only does every LCD model have its flaws but individual units within those model lines can vary as well. There is no 'perfect' choice of an LCD nor is there any manufacturer for which you can be assured of getting a great LCD.

I've subsequently ordered a Viewsonic VX2240w. From all that I've read on it, I hope to be "satisfied" with it. I will be doing a color calibration on it but hopefully I'm starting with a decent "set of colors".

I'm hesitant on the BenQ G200W because it quite a bit cheaper. I think around $199, while the Dell is a full $100 more.

Have you noticed any flickering on gray colors?

I'm sorry to hear that the coating isn't very good. I've been considering returning my 2007WFP for an LP2065, and I was really hoping that the coating wouldn't look quite as sparkly or "dusty" as the Dell's -- it's really quite annoying on lighter colors, particularly white.

desertjedi, try for the new Sammy 2253bw
I appreciate the recommendation but I've already gone ahead and ordered the Viewsonic vx2240w.

The 2253BW would be $344 shipped from Newegg. I got a vx2240w shipped for $260 after a $20 rebate.

I would be very wary at the moment of getting another Sammy. There was just nothing good I could say about the 2232BW.

There are not many reviews out on the net on the 2253BW. Gotta wonder if Samsung will be playing the panel lottery with this one as well. Maybe cuz it's new, they'll be using 'S' panels - at least for a while.

I can't imagine Samsung changing their approach to having multiple facilities create their panels. From a business point of view, I can see it making sense. Unfortunately, if they do, I'll never be buying a Samsung LCD.

Haven't noticed any flicker so far. Really, this would be a stellar display if it wern't for the coating. I made a point to examine 4-5 different matte LCDs at work today, and none of them had a matte coating as intrusive at this one (they of course had their own problems like bad backlight bleed, or flickering 6-bit color, or terrible viewing angles).

Unfortuneately I made a silly mistake and bought mine on Newegg, or I'd probably send it back. But then again, I've started to read up a little bit on this bad sparkle treatment, and it's more widespread now?
