well if you position it correctly it should look pretty even unless you are viewing it from different angles all the time. if you are looking at it straight on and one half is a lot darker there is probably something wrong with it. you should wait for the new model the 2253bw anyway if you are getting a Samsung. you can order it online at several places now but I'd recommend getting it from a store.

The Newegg reviews are excellent. Give the G2400W a try, I say. Some type of a review here: http://www.drainweb.com/?p=95#more-95
Other infos here: http://www.hardforum.com/showt...37718&highlight=g2400w
Direct comparison here, better in every category than 245BW(=245B): http://www.digitalversus.com/d...6&mo2=245&p2=2334&ph=1
I'm real compelled to put this on my official list real soon.

I can make it look somewhat better by changing the position, but any slight movement off center and it looks terrible. No matter what I do it seems like the top is darker than the bottom to some extent. Guess I'll take the 15% restock charge at BB and get something else.

I was thinking of destroying categories and simply making a list of LCDs. Each entry to the list would include ratings for the LCD as it performs in gaming, movies, print matching, photo editing, and others (probably a 10-denominator rating system). Would this make it easier for you guys to choose what is right for you? I do have a lot of redundancy on the recommendations list as is.
This may also allow me to add other LCDs more liberally even if they just have low ratings. That will help people see how the lower end LCDs stack up.
Which way would you rather have it?
I think this would help, keep them organized by screen size and add the comments.

This is a little more than you'd want to spend but I think it would be a great choice: http://www.pcconnection.com/IP...4110944&ci_sku=8290284
I haven't seen reviews on it but it's extremely rare that Eizo monitors wouldn't give you great graphics performance. This is what they're built for. That's an S-PVA, sRGB panel.

Building a HTPC this summer, but desperately in need of new monitor! Current is an unbelievably blurry Dell CRT, sometimes I have to goto lab because I begin to get a headache.
Should I go for 19-24" HDCP (SP?) LCD monitor or 19-22" 720p tv? Would like to spend about $200 (no more than $250 though).

I'm looking at maybe getting a 24 inch monitor to replace my Samsung SyncMaster 172x - I was considering the Dell 2408WFP, Samsung 245BW and the BenQ G2400W. I'd be using it to watch movies, do school work, and perhaps occasionally hook up an X-box 360. Nothing special. My system is pretty old as well... I'm packing an Radeon 9800 Pro 128 mb gfx card. I think these monitors are all supported by this card? Also, I'm not sure I'm willing to spend the extra $270 for the Dell vs a BenQ... but I may just splurge. What do you recommend?

Our Best Buy doesn't have a restocking fee on monitors. Are you sure yours does? It's only Circuit City that does the 15%

But, dual HP LP2065s are a good choice. There's a real good chance you'll end up with S-IPS panels (and even the AMVA panels are nice w/ regards to contrast). You're not going to find two 24"s for that much money but for under $1000 you could try the 26" Planar PX2611W. I don't know if that would take the place of two 20"s for you (in terms of resolution, not nearly) but it is also a very high quality S-IPS panel.
But dual 20" std. is probably the best dual monitor config worth getting these days. At least you can still run most latest games at 1600x1200.
There is a more expensive LP2065 model (the EF227A4 is more than the EF227A8). People say you're more likely to get S-IPS w/ the more expensive A4 but I don't know if that's true. I'm pretty sure many A8 users have received S-IPS panels.

xtknight,
First let me say thank you for running this post its is truly amazing to read through this and the time you have invested/doing this is very much appreciated. I have spent the last 3 hours on here and plan to spend a bunch more time.
I do have a quick question I currently have a Dell 2000FP purchase over 4 years ago. This monitor cost me arm when I purchased it and has served me very well. It has been switched on for most of its life but is starting to blink out on me. It still runs fine but about every hour and sometimes less it blacks out on my (started last month). All lights indicate its still on and I can power it off and power it right back on and it comes back to life but its starting to get really annoying. I really can not complain this monitor has literarily been running for some 30, 000+ hours with out being turned off for more then a hour in any given month. - Sometimes spending the extra really can pay off.
On with the question - Its time to start thinking replacement I do a lot of photo editing and it will be the primary purpose here. I did some back ground on the monitor I have seems it is a
2000FP 20 S-IPS (true 8-bit) 1600×1200 DVI-D, HD15, S-Video, Composite 16 ms
Do you by chance know who made the panels for these as I believe I would like to stay with this manufacture - granted times change so I am not set in stone but would like to learn a bit more about what went into making this monitor I have as it has been really great.
Also any suitable replacements you could recommend would also be appreciated
Regards,
cmurph
