Yikes, Dell shipping estimates my HC 24inch won't come till the 18-23rd of this month. I hope they do what lots of companies do and ship it early and thats just a "worst case". hehe

Is there a monitor test program I can use to show you guys how it performs when I get it? I don't have a good digital camera to post pics sadly.

I thought S-IPS has the worse performace for this sorta thing? Or is that just response time?

lol no, as xtknight said, they have about the best performance. that's why i love my first run 2007WFP. S-IPS panel, 20" widescreen, (relative to other LCDs) no input lag, great for watching DVDs, great for gaming.

It's a shame there aren't more S-IPS panels out there. If the 2407 was S-IPS I'd have bought it by now.

They lallygagged around for a month or two after I placed my order for a Dell 2001FP years ago (even though they said it was "in stock"), dont get your hopes up... their ship date estimation was accurate.

I am looking into the Samsung 216BW. Unfortunately, its about the top of my price range (~$250). I'm aware this is a TN, but viewing angles and colour fidelity are not so important to me - I am more interested in a good, aesthetic and relatively fast panel which will serve well for gaming and video on my 8800GTS 320MB. My last panel was a 17-inch, 25ms Active-Matrix LCD which ghosted like crazy, so it's about time to upgrade. Apparently, the 216BW is the same as the 226BW, but 21.6 inches instead of 22, correct? Also, this should be a Samsung panel considering samsung stated that they will only be using their own panels from now on. The price for this monitor is around $250, which is what I want to be paying. Any opinions from xtknight and you guys?

Samsung lied through their teeth. A french website tested three separate monitors, 1 was a C and the other two were As.

Fraudsters!

The 216BW has 5ms response time vs 2ms for the 226BW. The latter has overdrive, but not the 216BW. It is far from certain the 216BW has a Samsung panel.

EDIT: There is no 21.6 inch panel listed by Samsung on their LCD modules page

Not sure it is worth paying the Samsung price premium for a slightly smaller 5ms monitor. There are many choices of full-22-inches 5ms monitors within your budget (look on Newegg). The 216BW might be a good choice, but maybe you could find something that suits you better.

Hi, im curious about how a DVI cable improves the picture before I buy one. Does it help with dark colours or does the image get sharper etc.?

You still doubt me? :brokenheart: Go for it already! It will solve the issue you described on the preceding page. If you absolutely have to play it safe, just buy it at a place where you can return it within a certain timeframe if not satisfied.

Test images are generally inconclusive. Just give your subjective impressions of it, that'll be awesome. Your eyes are the best tool for judging your monitor. Actually, a colorimeter is better but I'm guessing one is not in your possession...

You can trust Samsung about as much as a toddler but yes the 216BW is 21.6" and also probably a TN. Response time..hmm I'm guessing around 20 ms in reality with no overdrive but I could be wrong. It's not going to be amazingly fast but probably better than the 17" you've got. Input lag may be nil if it doesn't use overdrive but this is another guess.

For the price range, if it turns out half decent that's probably one of your best choices short of a lucky, cheap-find ViewSonic VP930b (P-MVA). The Acer AL2051W (8-bit P-MVA) is another choice you really, really should be looking at [in fact, maybe the best in that price range]. The Samsung 205BW isn't all that bad either, but its advantages over the 216BW may be nonexistent.

Depends on a lot of things really. But if you have an LCD, you really should be using DVI.

I am definitely keen to know how it turns out, and if it's usable as a gaming monitor.

Fairly detailed and very favorable review of HP w2207 on Prad.de

HP brought a model to the market that makes the 22" competition look old in many respects. The w2207 is clearly ahead of the other 22-inch models we have tested to date.

Maybe worth a link in the OP, xtknight?

I'll see where I can fit it in. I'm very close to finishing the rewrite of the guide. Results are looking pleasing so far, in fact I'll be posting it so you guys can look over it. I'll be backing up the OP to the second "reserved post".

Site redesign turned out to be too much work though, probably for little benefit. I mostly dwell in the thread but the site is there as a rather static resource for calibration tools and other neat stuff.

It is still gonna be a TN screen, but with glossy screen. Seems to be already out in Korea. I posted this Chinese-language review of the 2232GW on a preceding page.

You can use Google Language Tools (Translate a web page) to understand most of it. This test unit is manufactured in May 2007 (see label pic), so I guess is is coming soon.

The new guide is up (and the old one is in the archive as indicated in the OP). I would love to hear your comments and suggestions, perhaps what you miss from the old page if anything, or what you like in the new one even. I appreciate feedback greatly.

The LG L226WTQ is the best 22" LCD, IMO. The Samsung 226BW "S" panel is not far behind, but unfortunately they ship with "A" and "C" panels more often. The HP w2207 is a great glossy version with a Samsung panel. The rest of them (e.g. Acer AL22*) all use Chi Mei panels and those are generally the 22"s to avoid.

Hi, after researching a bit and reading your updated guide (by the way, great job), I have gotten that TN are basically simply bad at grayscale. So it's normal that my lg226wt really fails your grayscale test at your site right?

Hey mushroomx, does it fail even with a DVI cable connection?

An other improvement allowed by the DVI cable is that, with a NVidia card, the digital connection will allow videocard scaling of lower-than-native resolution. This will give better quality image at some resolutions not supported by monitor hardware scaling.

Well the thing is, I got an acer al2216wbd two weeks ago to compare side by side and it came with a DVI cable. The al2216wbd had a bluish tint and it was practically impossible to read text because the middle of the screen was fading, however it looked just fine when i played UT2k4 :\ I returned it feeling it wasn't worth the money saved for the quality compared to the LG but before doing that i quickly hooked the LG with the DVI to see if I would notice any difference. I quickly looked at the desktop and there wasn't much change but i guess ill buy a cable soon and give it another shot since i didn't do more Well, I also tried the aspect scaling in the nvidia software (my vid card is 8800gts), it didnt work at all even if I chose the right settings. Do you have any idea how i can get it to work?

I also have some suspicion that the acer was defective, since it can't be that horrible can it? Website and desktop icon names were really hard to read, they were fading out. As i mentioned before, the odd part is when i loaded UT2k4, it seemed perfectly fine.
