How do you turn off Splendid in Vista 64? I've been looking around and there's supposed to be an ASUS tab in the advanced display settings, but there isn't! I'm not sure how to disable it :/

Errrr it should be in the monitor menu?

You probably need to install the monitor 'drivers' to get the extra settings, but I don't know if that'll work with Vista or not.

Is this even remotely possible? Currently I have an 8800GT and I am running a Dell 2408WFP and HDMI to my TV. I am wanting to get 2 19" monitors and turn them vertically and put one on each side of the 2408 and then hook them both up to my PC. I don't do any gaming, I do lots of video editing though. I am running OS X also so the best card I can really use is a 9800GTX+. Is there anyway to hook up 4 devices to 1 card? Maybe with 2 of these: http://www.monoprice.com/produ...id=2518&seq=1&format=2

Also is 19" the best choice? I am wanting them to be about the same height as the dell. Also are there any 19" monitors that offer the ability to turn onto their side? Or would I need to buy a replacement stand?

In the OP I see that you reccomend Pantone's / X-rite's i1 Display 2 for calibrating monitors. What about the less expensive i1 Display LT? Looks like it uses the same hardware (same sensor), but different software. This one I might not mind getting...but at $200+, the D2 would cost nearly as much as the monitor I just bought (HP w2007, if you're curious.)

one of the pixels on my L227wtg seems to have gotten stuck on green on the far right side of the screen. is there a way to reset it or something? that sucks so bad, this monitor has been almost perfect until now. :|

edit: ran udpixel for an hour and it unstuck for a few seconds but went back to green. so i tried giving the screen a gentle poke with a q-tip while running udpixel and it seems to have fixed it.

I think if you press the opposite side of a pin lightly on the stuck pixel, and then turn it on/off, it should allow the liquid stuff in the pixel refresh, if you will.

Google how to cure a stuck pixel, there are a lot of different ways.

Hi,

I am buying a new 24'' display in the sub-$300 range. So far I've narrowed down to

BenQ E2400HD
Samsung 2443BW-HAS
BenQ G2400WD
Samsung SyncMaster T240

Any other 24'' that people would recommend?
I actually would really prefer glossy but I can't find any of the glossy monitors listed in appendix e nor a reference to find any current ones. Help please.

I really hear good things about the syncmaster for everything but gaming. Is the response time really high enough to make a difference? I just looked at the price for it at a couple of other sites and the price seems to be much higher than the site I'm looking on, which has it sub-300.

Greetings, all,

So, I've been planning on getting a 24" monitor for a long time. I'm a fairly hardcore gamer, and want something that'll shine at 1900x1200. As well, I'm a college student, and this'd be what my fiancee and myself watch Blu-Ray movies on.

There was a raffle yesterday at my college, however, and I found myself as the winner of a free Nintendo Wii! I'm going to pick it up today; extremely exciting.

So, I need a 24" monitor that will...

1. Be great for gaming (first and foremost)

2. Have decent picture quality and viewing angles for watching movies

3. Be compatible with a Nintendo Wii

I've done a bit of research, but am having a hard time finding something that doesn't have poor viewing angles (i.e. BenQ G2400WD) or is too slow for fast gaming (i.e. HP LP2475w).

I'd appreciate any and all feedback. As well, I'm certainly not asking you guys to do all the work; if there's something else I ought to be researching, feel free to point me in the right direction.

Thanks a ton!

EDIT-- I'm reading mixed things about the HP LP2475w... what do you think-- problematic for gaming, or is the lag not too bad?

I'm looking for a 20 inch monitor (1600x1200) (yea yea I know most folks like wide screen). I prefer one that is ips as oppose to tn (even if I will use it for games). My current monitor is a dell 20fp and this version is clearly tn and imho it sucks dogs. The response is fast enough but the image has no real saturation. I'd go with a dell 24 ips but I think it is a bit too large and I still play an occasional game that is not wide screen friendly.

Since most folks seem to focus on response time for games my request is perhaps a bit unusual. I started a bit of research but I'm having a hard time determing picture quality from the specs.

Hi guys I am new here, so hello all.

I have been reading through some of this thread up to the point I realised thee were more than 300 pages to it!!!! lol I guess I will just ask what I am trying to find out before I go LCD blind....

I am in the market for a new 24" Gaming/PC monitor. There are two that I am trying to decide between. Primarily the use will be PC gaming(mainly racing sims) and my xbox will also go through it.

Here are the two that I am looking at.......

BENQ G2400WD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824014173
Found it for £230 at Play.com brand new, free delivery.

HP W2408H
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824176090
Found an ex-display model with no dead pixels for £213 at a local store.

Basically which one will be the best for gaming both on and off my PC??? Iv heard that the BenQ has problems with flickering borders whilst using an XBOX/PS3 at full 1080p resolution, is this a major problem??? I will be using it for XBOX circa 50% of the time so it is important.

I found this helpful site that lets you compare monitors that they have tested. Unfortunately they have only tested the BenQ G2400W not the G2400WD. They are effectively the same display though so the results are valid.
http://www.digitalversus.com/d...&mo2=384&p2=3576&ph=12

Any help will be greatly appritiated as I may go and buy the HP tomoro if someone tells me its the best. There is only one left!!!!!!

Many thanks

Jack

Just hooked up my new beautiful L227WTG Monitor that was an early Christmas gift. No dead pixels or anything. It's a huge difference coming from a 19" Sony Trinitron. I had to turn down the brightness before I went blind but does anyone have some recommended settings for windows or my ATI 9600 card.

As for whether it supports 75Hz @ 1920x1200, I had to find the answer myself, as HP didn't care to reply. Now I can see why: it doesn't support 75Hz at all, not even in lower resolutions. Not on any inputs (DP,HDMI,DVI,DSUB). To be more accurate, it accepts it, then drops every 5th frame... So I had to stick with 60Hz, but I just couldn't get used to it. (Neither could I to the variable input lag.)

Anyway, how can you watch movies @60Hz? Seeing one frame for 2*1/60 ms and the other for 3*1/60 ms + the variable input lag just plain hurts my eyes.

I'm not sure how exactly the input lag works although my observation is that it just happens in the first frame of many that need to be updated, so it's not cumulative. I think that's the only explanation, otherwise it would look like a disaster.

My LCD2690 handles 75 Hz the same way: unbearable.

So I wonder if there is a monitor in existence that natively supports 75Hz at 1920x1200... :S

I don't think there is an LCD out there that can do that. But maybe a TN.

Hello!

First of all big respect to creator of this topic. You are doing outstanding job. Since I am not that much into lcd technologies I have few questions for experts on this site (xtknight) in particular

I am proudly owner of 17" LG CRT monitor, however the time has come to (possibly) change to lcd monitor. Mostly because of health resons. The choices on the market are large and confusing.

Reading through this topic revealed mostly information about larger monitors, but what is with 17 and 19"? Are there any good choices for gamers? I had opportunity to see Dell 19 lcd" (5:4) but it is too large (would prefer WS) 17" and 19" are only limited to TN technology right? One of the reason why I am skeptic about buying larger monitor (20"+) is that most likely I would need killer pc to run games on such a large resolutions. (1280x1024 would be perfect )

As I have neglected 17-19" monitors, the market and reviews have too. This is because you can get a 22" widescreen for under the price of a 19" now. Although, it's perfectly understandable many people still want a good 19" screen. They are definitely still out there, but not many really good ones. The HP LP1965 is an exception. The others are probably fine for other things, but not up to the expectations I hold for bigger LCDs.

I haven't seen reviews on 17" monitors for a very long time.

17/19" standard aren't completely limited to TN; the Dell 1907FPV and 1707FPV are VA technology. NEC has a few 19" VA or IPS monitors. Samsung has 17/19" non-TNs in some countries, I think. 17/19" widescreen are limited to TN.

Most of the time in front of computer I spend on gaming (70%) / browsing the Internet. If you could please give me few quality choices for 17" or 19ws". How do you see future development of 17 and 19" monitors? What would you recommend, maybe it would be better to buy 20"?

Any advices are more than welcome. Greetings from Croatia.

I think most video cards today can handle 1680x1050 or 1600x1200 (20" resolutions) without too much trouble, as long as you're not playing horribly intensive games like Crysis.

What kind of video card do you have?

On CS:S everything is clear and vivid as well; I don't see any ghosting or artifacts, either. I'm coming from a 5-6 year-old IBM 17", lol, so everything is dramatically better. But yes, for $200 ($180 after MIR), I don't see how this couldn't be recommended. Once I get ASCR working I'll report back to see if there is much of a difference with an extra 3000:1 contrast ratio. But yes, please do recommend this model.

The only thing I'm not all that impressed with is the glossy bevel. I would have rather had the VW222U's exterior, as I'm just not a big fan of the glossy; it attracts a lot of finger prints. It so beautiful, though

Cool. I'll replace the VW222U with the VW224U then. As soon as I get done with revamping my list. That may be awhile. (Hoping subconsciously saying that will make me do it faster.)

The screen itself is anti-glare matte, right?

Splitters are for duplicating the image. They definitely won't work for this.

There's no way to hook up 4 monitors to one card as far as I know. Matrox has some TripleHead2Go device for 3 monitors... http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/th2go/

Not sure how it works with 3D or different resolutions. I think Widescreen Gaming Forum reviewed it so check that out.

Yeah, 19" standard goes pretty well with 24" widescreen. I've heard of people doing that before.

The 19" HP LP1965 allows portrait mode natively.

Here is some measurements of screen active area, height if you are curious:

Height:

301.1mm (19" standard)
324.0mm (24" widescreen)
306.0mm (20.1" standard)
324.0mm (21.3" standard)

I've heard it uses the same hardware too. You can use third party software like basICColor or ColorEyes Display to exploit the full functionality of the hardware contained therein. The i1 Display 2 solution though is a good one and the included software makes it easy for the less initiated. Third party software may put you up to the same price anyway as the i1 Display 2 package.

The BenQ is just as good...and fast for gaming.

I went with the hp w2408h before you posted this. Girlfriend was in a rush to buy it for me for xmas / bday. Did I make a bad call? Saw a lot of good reviews on it that didn't really have many cons other than the lack of dvi port. Also I think the orange on the acer might drive me crazy.

Hi guys, skimmed through about 250 pages of this thread, couldnt find anything specific to what im looking at.

I'm tossing up between the Acer P244WB and Benq G2400WD.

I did notice quite a bit of info about the Benq in this thread, but what are your opinions on this Acer? I am using this for pc, tv, and xbox 360, but the most important thing to me is the xbox 360.

The I believe the main difference is that the acer is a 16:9 monitor, but i know the benq does pixel mapping.

What are your thoughts?

How is the dell 2007F. I see a couple of references in this thread but nothing in 9 months and it is not on the list of recommended monitors. Is there an issue with this monitor ?

OK I decided not to bother with the ex display HP W2408H. Thinking about it, the monitor would have probably been on display for anything up to a year and it would have been on for at least 8 hours a day for that time. On top of that HP only offer a years warranty. It may have been fine but I didnt want to risk it. The height adjustment really was awesome though.

So that just leaves the BenQ G2400WD. It looks like a fantastic monitor but could someone please clear up the issues with the flickering borders?? Is it really noticable, ie is it going to distract me from playing XBOX??? Or does it only happen occasionally??

As I said before I found one for £230 delivered from PLAY.com, is that a good price for this monitor?????

After doing what seems like endless hours of research (Wish id found this thread earlier!!) it seems like this is the best monitor in my price range, if it wasnt for the flickering issue id have one already. I almost bought a B grade Acer G24 from Overclockers.co.uk for £230 but, eventhough it is a fantastic monitor, it is a bit orange.....Someone else bought it anyway.

I think I may wait until the new year to get the monitor anyway, hopefully I may save some cash this way.

Cheers.

I recently came across digitalversus.com for monitor reviews.

I was under the impression that for hardcore gaming, 22" was the optimal size as going larger was just too big and hard to find absolutely crazy response times without input lag. I noticed in the list that your number one choice is this monitor, the LG L227T: http://www.digitalversus.com/article-358-3278-35.html

However, I also saw a review for the LG L226WU, here: http://www.digitalversus.com/article-358-3984-35.html

The website gives the latter monitor (the 226) a much better score for having better picture. They recognize the 227 has awesome reactivity for gaming, but not great picture quality. It sounds like the 226 is the best of both worlds. I was a little skeptical so I went and did their face-off thing where you can compare two monitors against each other for things like game rendering and response compared to a CRT. I was unable to see a real difference between the two in terms of reactivity, yet the 226 has better picture quality. Shouldn't it be at the top of the list for the hard core gamer (the application I am looking for) since it has the same reactivity as the 227 yet better picture?
