I'm aware of the green/pink color issue and want to purchase through a reputable business that allows exchanges, unless it is easier/possible to simply go through HP instead. I've read through the thread from the beginning of January and remember reading Amazon was recommended, along with another site. I'm in the US, and am wondering if anyone has any other suggestions. I'm looking at Amazon.com right now because it is $610 and has free shipping.

Thanks again.

When I was looking at that monitor I would have purchased it through amazon as they will pay shipping back to them if I am not mistaken. You pay a little more than some other places but I would say just because of the return policy that its worth it.

I'm interested in a 22" 1080p monitor. Can any of you offer an opinion on BenQ E2200HD vs. Asus VH226H? If someone has seen them running side-by-side it would be great.

Budget?
Lenovo has one, but it's over $400. But reviews and user opinions have been overwhelmingly positive for it.

So I finally decided what monitor to get. Went to Best Buy, saw the LG L227WTG in action, and was immediately sold.

Sure, the Dell 2209WA could be an excellent monitor. But same resolution, matte coat, and dealing with "mail orders", just didn't have me exactly hyped.

The glossy coating on this LG, coupled with its wider color gamut, just make it *almost* feel like I'm looking at a CRT again. I haven't had this feeling in forever. It has amazing picture. The regular issues of TN exist on it - viewing angles and backlight bleed, but I've yet to have an issue with viewing angles. It's a computer monitor that I'm between 1' and 2' away from at any time, staring it dead on. Even when I slouch down into my computer chair and just kink of slink downward, the top of the screen only gets a little darker, the color doesn't shift. And backlight bleed is only noticeable when the screen is entirely black, I don't really notice it at any other time. I could if I am LOOKING for it, but... I don't want to spoil the awesomeness of this monitor in regular conditions.
The DPI on this thing, imo, is perfect. It's like having my 17" 5:4 LCD, which ran at 1280x1024, but wider and possibly a little taller. The text is barely smaller, which I think is perfect. My eyes are used to looking at it from the get-go, yet I have a good deal more screen real estate.

I calibrated it using some website graphics and instructions, for a number of things: black level, gamma, sharpness, contrast, etc. It's got a beautiful picture and I have the brightness so much lower than the eye-searing default. It was actually hurting my eyes and kind of giving me a headache at default brightness settings.

But even with lower brightness, the colors on this just jump out. They are so vibrant, and gamma settings for the colors are all very close to the universally-preferred 2.2 value, according to the website I used to "calibrate" the monitor.

Any thoughts?

How does 1440 look on a 19" panel? I would consider going with 1680x1050, but to play games in native (Radeon HD3470), would be a pretty rough compared to 1440. Plus, I need something smaller as I may have to travel.

Any help would be nice.

If you're not overly picky then I think any 19" will do. There is no 'premiere' choice that I am aware of in the 19" widescreen sector, but I would have suggested a Samsung anyway as these usually have a good overall package. Sorry can't tell you much more than that. Check some out in the store and you can get a good idea of the response time by moving the mouse and windows around with different color combinations.

I am looking for a new LCD monitor that has acceptable input lag to me, which is below 1 frame delay (~16 ms). Of course if i find a good monitor with really low or even zero input lag i will buy it without second thought.

The problem is that these input lag tests doesn't seem very reliable.

For example the LG L227WT, the prad review says it has zero input lag

http://prad.de/en/monitore/rev...-lg-l227wt-part12.html

Then on the other hand in the digital versus site it says that it has avg. 27 ms and maximum 40 ms input lag!

http://www.digitalversus.com/d...&mo2=349&p2=3278&ph=12

Now i can understand some ms differences between reviews due to a number of reasons but this is a huge difference.

Unless of course i am missing something or the LG L227WT has different panels like the Samsung 226BW.

I even remember a review in this site that the input lag tests were different in comparison with digital versus.

? was planning to get the T220, i know that according to digital versus site the monitor has maximum input lag of 20 ms and avg of 12 ms, i don't mind that 4ms difference but is it reliable?

This has been brought up before but the generally accepted measurement is prad's. I have the L227 and can tell you it has nowhere near the input lag of the LCD2690, which I also own. The LCD2690 is a display agreed to have 2-3 frames of lag.

There could be regional differences. I believe DigitalVersus is based in France or Belgium. PRAD is based in Germany, but I have no idea where all these review sites get samples from or if all samples are the same. Technically, we don't even know if they're posting the truth either but we won't turn into conspiracy theorists unless we have a reason to.

I am very confident you will be happy with both the Samsung T220 or LG L227WT. Input lag simply has never been a problem with TN panels except in very rare circumstances. If you see high measurements, they may be in error. Plenty of user reviews have asserted a lack of lag and DigitalVersus has reported higher figures on numerous instances.

I'm glad you were happy with the 2209WA. I did think it would make a good gaming display. I'm glad I was right.

Yes, uncalibrated colors are a common issue with this panel from what I've read. But unlike the Samsungs with their blue tint, the Dell's problem seems fixable.

First of all, this is a great thread. I just got a Benq G2400WD based on the info in here, and I love it.

However, I have one gripe about it that I haven't been able to find a solution to. Apologies if this has already been asked and answered, I didn't see it after looking though a lot of the pages. The problem is every time the monitor loses its signal for any period of time, such as after a reboot, changing resolutions, and occasionally after a UAC popup happens in vista, the monitor will display a popup right in the middle of the screen for about half a second that says the input type; so in my case it says "Input: DVI". This wouldn't bother me if I didn't alt tab in and out of games fairly often, which changes the resolution and so causes the popup to display right over my AIM messages window (and in the middle of the screen after alt tabbing back into the game). This has proved to be a very difficult problem to find any information on online, and when I do see it mentioned no one seems to know an answer to it. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution to it?

This is simply the resolution notifier. Some displays have an option to disable it, but maybe this one doesn't. Have you checked all the options in the monitor's controls? Most monitors show it in the top right so maybe there's even some option to change the position of it if nothing else.

Hi, I have a few questions regarding purchasing a new LCD Monitor. I currently use a 19 inch Samsung 930B, and I'm looking to upgrade to a 22 inch widescreen monitor. After looking through the topic, I noticed that the majority of the "hardcore gaming" 22 inches are relatively expensive at $300+. I'm looking for a monitor (ideally) in the <250 range. Could you compare the models you recommend to my current monitor? I haven't experienced any problems/lag with my current monitor, so getting a monitor with "significantly" less input lag isn't a major concern for me. I mainly use the monitor for gaming/web browsing. Thanks in advance!

LCDs in general are still quite expensive. $300 is lower middle range for an LCD. I don't expect this to change within the next two years.

If I recall, the 930B was quite a nice gaming panel. The 22"s should perform basically exactly the same. I don't think you'll notice a difference. And no, you shouldn't notice more input lag on the 22" TN panels.

xtknight, I must thank you. I finally received my LG L227WTG-PF today and after getting off work, the difference I see between this and my old Hanns G is outstanding. Running dual-monitors, my Hanns G is blurry, dull-colored, and it gives me a headache. This one... no stuck pixels, no dead pixels, no headache, no color bleed, no backlight bleed, everything is crisp, and my games look amazing.

Your recommendation for this monitor is greatly appreciated. I hope that nothing goes wrong with this while I RMA my Hanns G, but so far so good.

This is a pretty nifty thread. I've been shopping around for a new monitor for the past two months and realized how difficult it can be for someone like me (I'm pretty picky and don't want to throw money all over the place). What I'm looking for in a monitor is about 24" at 1920x1200 (or better) resolution (Nvidia 9600GT). It would be fantastic if I could be able to hook up a game console directly to the monitor (but not sought after entirely) and be able to play my PC games (mostly FPSes) and watch Blu-ray videos.

Would I actually notice a negligible difference in input lag time while playing FPSes? My thanks to anyone who can help me out with a solid recommendation. I don't have a budget in mind but if it's reasonable enough (no more than $700?), I can save up for a little more just for the boost in visual experience.

I think the Dell 2408WFP is a great choice for you due to its flexibility of input connections. The input lag has been reduced with the A01 revision to about 3 frames, and I really don't think that amount of input lag will bother you in console games. You might have to get used to it with PC games, but if you don't play overly competitively you'll probably be fine.

The HP LP2475w is another choice. It also has many connections. I think it has good scaling options as well, although it has not been tested as much as the Dell. It has less input lag and a better IPS panel. The only thing is, there was a quality control concern about it being a little yellow on one side of the panel. I don't want to perpetuate this if it's no longer happening so I suggest doing some research on HardForum and see if recent owners have been having the issue. I do know HP is aware of it. I know a lot of people aren't having the problem. Seems to be more "aren't" than "are".

Hello all.

New to the board.

Welcome to the forums.

I?m sorry that I don't have the time to read through all of the threads to digest and learn more about this but my 19" ViewSonic 2 ms VX922 just crapped out on me so I need to get something new pretty quickly, so I?m hoping someone more up to speed with the latest equipment can help me out.

I?ve had some bad experiences with ViewSonic before and so I really had my reservations about getting this one but at the time it was the only one that was a 19? 4:3 monitor (which is really all I can fit in my location) that was 2 ms as I need the most performance I can get, plus it had a DVI port which I need too, so I decided to get it, plus it seem to have some favorable reviews at the time.

But barely 2 years later and its dead and I?m not even gonna waist my time with a warr repair as I don?t have the time, I need something quick.

So any ideas on a replacement I can get with the same specs that is not a Viewsonic.

Again just to note, 19" 4:3 (I don't want a wide screen) DVI port, lowest ms I can get, I'm a little picky about the look too.

I see a lot of nice monitors that are 5 ms, kinda partial to the Samsungs, so is there really much of a diff with that over 2 ms?

Thanks to all for any help.

I believe the Samsung T190 is the best 19" choice for a gamer. I guess I don't recommend it because I highly suggest anyone looking for a 19" get a 22" widescreen for a slightly higher price, instead. (I guess, come to think of it, the T190 is not such a bad deal.)

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/...uch_of_Color_T190.html

This model has a couple modes of RTA (overdrive) so it's good for gaming. [ http://www.xbitlabs.com/articl...ung-topaz_5.html#sect0 ]

I pulled the trigger because Tigerdirect has it on sale for 199.99. However, I could still cancel it. So please enlighten me.

If it's good enough, I'll keep it and wait for 24" $300.00 e-IPS panel and use it as dual monitor

Ya I think it's good enough to have while you wait for something else, at least. It's not the best thing in the world but like I said in its entry's notes, it "gets the job done". I guess not as good as the Dell 2408WFP, HP LP2475w, etc.

Any feedback or experiences would be appreciated.

You should probably ask Dell about this (as I am sure you are already doing) but maybe someone here can share their experiences. Personally, I am not sure.

Going with money is an issue, and the fact that I'm not quite comfortable having the resolution and DPI of the L220x, I'm going to have to settle between the Dell 2209WA and the LG L227WTG.
10e from HardForums seems to have the opinion that whichever is better is really based on price. I also prefer buying in a store opposed to ordering online, as it makes returns less of a hassle if the backlight is not normal or dead pixels. That, and I can see something in action prior to purchase.

I think I'll prefer the glossy, but other than your problems with the LG, how are the black levels?

They're good, but the backlight bleeding is a little distracting while watching movies, and brightness adjustment doesn't help. For anything other than movies (with the letterboxing black bars), the backlight bleed probably won't bother you unless you look at really dark things all day that would reveal it.

I understand the colors a likely more vibrant compared to the 2209WA, due to wider gamut and the glossy seems to help the appearance of vibrancy (imho). But are the black levels good, and will lowering the brightness improve this on the LG?

Well the LG lacks the midtone performance and balance of the 2209WA, I would guess, since it's a TN panel. The viewing angles of TNs cause them to hide detail. Since IPS is a more stable cell arrangement, it produces a balanced and even image. It depends what you prefer, really. I would definitely prefer IPS in most cases and even though the L227 is good, would not hesitate to suggest the 2209WA as a viable replacement.

I'm going to take a trip to Best Buy this afternoon. First, I want to see if the LG is good in person, and two, I want to see what I won't be getting if I do decide on the Dell, that way I have a comparison to know whether to keep the Dell or not when it gets hooked up.

Well I can't really tell you for absolute sure. The wide gamut can be a little distracting and look a little "off-axis" on traditional pictures too, so I wouldn't necessarily tout this as an advantage. It's cool if you view Adobe RGB color space images but perhaps will look odd if you don't. It's not that it's bad or anything, it's just a "bit off". But it is not the oversaturated disaster everyone says it is; it's more like the colors just aren't quite "right" when viewing sRGB things. Perhaps they will be a little more green or yellow than need be.

At this point I'm leaning on the L227 unless it looks terrible in person. Viewing angles aren't an issue for me... I'll be sitting around 1.5' from the monitor, so the sides of the screen should be within appropriate angles. But that's how far I sit from my 17" 5:4 LCD. I might try and increase that distance if the 22" ends up looking massive, but also dependent upon text appearance and whatnot.

People say this about viewing angles all the time, but with TNs the viewing angle won't even be right when you're right in front of the panel. Also, the viewing angle will hide details even when you're looking right in the front of it. It feels like you're looking off-axis all the time honestly. It's not terrible but can be a bit annoying after awhile.

In fact, even S-PVA has the hidden details problem when viewing straight-on, sometimes worse than TN close-up. Only the IPS type doesn't.

Don't get me wrong. I love my LG. It's the best TN, but certainly not the best monitor.

From what I'm hearing, the Dell 2209WA is a fine choice and an IPS panel is an IPS panel. The default colors just need a little tuning which is possible with the OSD (read prior reviews).

Glossy IMO doesn't make a whole lot of difference when it comes to realistic and true vibrancy. It might make things overvibrant. But if you have the right lighting it's fine.

The L227 has a solid happy user base. The 2209WA is less mature but has the potential of being quite a bit better due to the IPS panel.

Sorry, can't recommend anything specific at this range. I would suggest just looking at your local brick and mortar store and judging quality by eye. Actually I suggest that for most monitors unless you're ordering something higher quality that is not available in-store.

Hi, I am looking to buy a 24" for gaming and everyday stuff, surfing, so going for a TN panel. Problem is where i live there is not much of a choice so it comes down to few models..

HP L2445W
Samsung T240
Asus MK241H (really like this one, has vga/dvi/hdmi with hdcp, and the price is moderate in local shops, but haven't seen many people recommend it)

I would really appreciate any advice, my new computer is standing and waiting for a monitor..

About ?200. I'm not a panel snob, as long as text is easy to read I'll be happy. I just want more screen real estate for writing and coding. As there are several 1080p 21.5" displays out at the ?200 price point I want to know if there are significant differences between different brands.

edit: I also do a bit of gaming so I might as well ask what kind of graphics power I need to get acceptable performance with current games at 1080p. Radeon 4830 good enough?

NCIXUS doesn't offer "ZERO Dead Pixel Exchange" for BenQ G2400WD any more. Reading their custom forum, it looks like they did it in the past. Perhaps they stopped because there were too many returns.

I have a Dell 2209WA and this is my first time experiencing a IPS screen of any sort. Anyways, I noticed that this when the screen shows black and if I move my head around, parts of the monitor turns silver colored. This is especially noticeable in a dark room and when the default XP screensaver is on. Is this normal? It happens with tn panels too but I always attributed the effect to horrible viewing angles. The 2209WA has awesome viewing angles with any color other than black. On a black screen, the black shifts to a silvery color. I'm sure its not light bleed. My monitor has almost none.

Also with another question, I have tons of experience with *va panels as the computers in my school use them but I notice the the colors on my Dell are "sharper" but the ones using a va panel are "warmer" if it makes any sense. My Dell feels like its displaying the same colors as a TN panel but with more intensity. On the other hand, the colors on a *va panel seem to look more neutral and not as harsh, more lifelike. The best way to describe them is that the colors just feel warmer somehow. The va panels seem to create a color thats completely different from the color created on TN and IPS panels. Am I nuts or is this just is characteristic of the two panel types? I know that VA panels are suppose to have higher contrasts compared to both TN and IPS panels.

I'm slowly getting ready to upgrade my monitor setup from 20wgx2 pro to something a bit bigger (24+), of course keeping the old one as the secondary monitor.

Still, looking today at the choices, there're effectively ... 3 if I want ips based panel and sane price. Two of them unavailable in PL (DS and Planar) and all of them seem to have anti-glare coating, which I personally dislike - especially after getting used to my current monitor.

Any suggestions ? Maybe of monitors to be released in the following months ?

Hi,

I have a LG 196WTQ that is attached to my nix box. The text and some images were a bit grainy/blurry so after messing with it for a long time I finally found this forum that mentioned going into the 'system menu' by powering it off then turning it on while holding down the menu button. I proceeded to do this and started experimenting with the different panel choices. If I recall there were 4 or so choices. Unfortunately, now it won't come back on right. It turns on and all I see is a white screen. Sometimes when I turn it on half of it wil be dark and then fade out to white.

I've tried powercycling it, I've tried unplugging both the vga cable and the power cord. I left both unplugged over night. I've tried various combinations of holding down different buttons. Is there like a factory reset switch somewhere? I'm very close to unscrewing the back to find out -- as of right now it's unusable -- all I wanted was some clear text -- I'm not a gamer, just a developer.

If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated. I plan on calling LG Monday to see if I can coerce a tech support guy into resetting this for me, as they are closed now.

earlier this week i was looking at this HUGE westinghouse monitor L2610NW

http://www.buy.com/prod/westin...loc/101/207540840.html

priced at 250$ looked like a great upgrade that i could use for gaming and some movies.

then my brother talked me into this other one smaller , but i already know how awesome the colors are in samsungs and he convinced me that it would be a better pick than the Westinghouse.

Samsung 2433bw

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824001309

for 270

to be honest i havent been doing research about monitors lately , anyone with some advice or other choices i should consider before pulling the trigger

L2610NW is a total cr*p. I was initially tempted by the price for the 26' size. Fortunatelly, before ordering online i picked it up at Bestbuy. Terrible build quality, inferior design, backlight bleed, osd buttons, un-adjustable stand? to name a few. Returned it back the same day and promised myself never to buy Westinghouse again (BTW, that brand name used to belong to USA company that went bust. Then a Chinese company bought it just so it could use its brand name). Instead got Dell 2209WA for about $230. Yes, smaller screen, but 5x more value and quality. Don't know much about 2433bw, but after watching movies on 2209WA I'm not going back to TN panels. Check the top post of this tread for other recommendations.

...

PS. You wanna know something funny about L2610NW? When I got it, BestBuy was selling it for $449. No joke. I wouldn't pay a $100 for it.

Hi!
I found this wondeful review about NEC LCD2690WUXi. It's almost superfantastic except of the part about calibration, where I have a bunck of questions I cant find an answer to. First of all, as I understood from some other thread in this forum, there is different versions of SpectraView II. In my case, I couldn't understood, how it's possible to put all the values before calibration, that was mentioned in review. For example?Black level and Contrast Ratio to Max. Even if I choose preset target profiles, the result is good in contrast, but colors are much too oversaturated. Is there someone who can offer me a SpectraView II target configuration file (made everytime you choose custom values) or explain, where I get wrong with calibration process?
p.s. I use SpiderElite 3 as a calibrator.

HP L2445W
Samsung T240
Asus MK241H (really like this one, has vga/dvi/hdmi with hdcp, and the price is moderate in local shops, but haven't seen many people recommend it)

I would really appreciate any advice, my new computer is standing and waiting for a monitor..

The T240 has quite a slow response time, so I'd stay away from it.

I don't know much about the ASUS. There's probably a couple semi-reliable reviews online of it.

The BenQ G2400W is available most everywhere. But do you have a link of available models in your area? Maybe there are some reviews of them.

Budget?

Well I have heard pretty good things about the BenQ E2200HD. I'd go for that almost sight unseen because many of the BenQ models have been tops.
