Dell just pulled every promo from the U2410 info - great. Then you may go and fork yourself, Dell - I will NOT pay for any of your sub-26" product $500 or more, period. Your quality is not there, never been and never will be and it should be reflected in your prices.
You may keep sitting on your stockpile, have fun, I'll buy something else within 2 weeks.

Amen to that. $270 flat price at Newegg PLUS $30 more off from the rebate? Unbeatable. Not to mention at 85 Hz?! This is a godsend for gaming at this price. Can't wait to get mine Monday.

I'm looking for a good 24'' Monitor.
I was thinking about Dell U2410 but as everyone I'm worried about the problems I can have with it.
Now I was thinking to wait a new Rev that will fix not all, but something.

So, I will need a good suggestion for a nice budget monitor, that I can pass later to my second pc. Even a good TN one will do good I think.
I use the monitor mainly for design, video editing, and some gaming.
The cheap one will be used for office purpose when I will get mine.

Any suggestion?

For those needs I'd go with the NEC LCD2490WUXi for about $450 delivered from edexdeals.com.

It's only got 1 year instead of 4 years warranty, but I had a couple dead pixels (the new one has none) and NEC replaced it. It's a refurb, but looks new.

I would like this monitor too
But I'm in Europe and can't find it.

please more info on nec ea231wmi, there are no reviews and people are scared to talk about it like it's some sort of illegal black market weapon

Plion, I've wondered about the lack of chatter regarding the NEC EA231WMi, and after reading the Hard|Forum thread, I think I can come up with a least a partial explanation: scarcity. It sounds like the display was delayed (the first orders didn't ship in the States until October?), and the initial batch sold out quickly. I think the recent sales are for a new batch.

PRAD has reviewed the monitor, but only in German - no English translation yet. However, it only obtained 'Gut' marks, rather than the 'Sehr Gut' typical of qualite IPS displays. Apparently the NEC was limited by its slight ghosting, colour uniformity (of course this is true of every LG.Display IPS panel these days), and most importantly its uneven brightness.

That said, if one gets a decent panel, it seems more appealing in some ways than the HP LP2475w and Dell U2410, owing to the NEC's more or less sRGB gamut. On the other hand, you only get 1080 vertical pixels...

Why are the prices at DEX so good on those NEC monitors? I mean their selling them for like $800 less than most places. Are they a good retailer?

The eDEX NEC LCD2490WUXis are refurb, one-year warranty, no?

Still, they're rather tempting. Alkemyst, the one-year warranty comes from NEC? So it enabled you get a replacement if you weren't satisfied with the first display you purchased? What did the process involve?

Well, those NECs there - LCD2490WUXi and LCD2690WUXis - are both older models as both LCD2490WUXi2 and LCD2690WUXi2 are already out there...

...speaking of which: just read the LCD2690WUXi2 review at PRAD and aside of the missing deinterlacer it seems like a unit on-pair with its famed 24" brother.

Am I making a mistake when I think it might very well worth $7xx (after cashback etc)?

It's an NEC refurb, shipped from NEC with a one year NEC warranty.

The price is more than fair for the 1 year vs 4 year warranty.

My first display had about a 4-5 pixel area issue. the standard coverage is no more than 1 full pixel or 4 sub pixels in a 5x5 pixel area.

I simply called NEC, took a picture and sent it in. They evaluated it and sent out a new monitor in a couple days. They put a hold on a CC until you return the defective display.

They are refurbs and some are discontinued models.

Edex is the close out company for Dex.com. Dex is a pretty big supplier of is/it items and services.

Are there any decent 23 -25 inch Samsung models that are at least 19x1080 or 19x1200 HDMI and decent for gaming(XBOX360 and PC) and occasional photo editing?

And price point preferably under $300.

My Double Sight Ds-265W went out. It started flicking then lost signal now nothing. It lasted about 5 months. Its still under warranty and I've already contacted them and got an RMA number and a place to send it back too. In the mean time I picked up the Hyundai 242D from Frys for $240. Its a 24 inch 1920x1200 and yes its a TN panel. I'm surprised how good it looks. The colors and text are very good. No dead or stuck pixels and very minimal back light bleed just a hair on the bottom. What surprises me is the text and icons are much clearer on this then my friends 2209WA. This has no grainy look to it, its perfectly clear unlike the 2209WA. Really amazed at this monitor for $240 I wasn't expecting much but its passed my expectations and anyone looking for a budget 24 inch monitor this is one to look at.

What is normal as far as disparities between identical monitors of the same company and brand?

For example:

As you may recall I got a 20WMGX2 back in 2006 brand new before they were dissapearing.
I also picked two refurbished more up in the summer from FS/FT here at ATOT for cheap.

Now my original one always looks much better than the others, even after tweaking the others considerably. I am sure it does not help that I don't own a calibrator.

The colors and brightness are not similar at all. I can get the colors close, but then the brightness is very low. Or I get the brightness close and the colors are then bad.

Its not an issue, since I only use it for PS3, but just a question to what is normal if you bought two of the same monitor, the differences that may occur between the two.

I think if you got a colorimeter you would have much better luck getting them to match. They are only different because of age probably. Over time the brightness would get dimmer, but that's probably about it. LCDs don't have specific color drift like OLEDs...

Is there any way to solve the over-saturation in games with monitors such as U2410 ?

The only way is to set the U2410 to sRGB mode, until color-managed games become available. Making games color-managed is very easy with a shader, however no one that I know of has done it. Media Player Cinema has a color management shader for media, however.

I've been clinging to my CRT while trying to decide which LCD to get, and after playing around with different models I realize that I don't hate glossy panels quite as much as I thought I did. However, I noticed there seems to be some monitors that are really glossy and then others that are not as reflective (i.e. semi-glossy?) panels. In one store I saw a Sony Vaio AIO with a really super glossy display. The Apple iMac didn't seem quite as glossy.

xtkight, do you happen to know of any LCD panels that are not as harshly glossy, in other words more semi-glossy ?

My criteria would be preferably PVA or IPS, 20" - 24".

Thanks

I'm not quite sure about the semi-glossy thing. I generally classify an LCD as either glossy or not glossy. I have heard others say this before, though. I'm not going to completely deny it, but it could be because of the environment in which you looked at the LCD (I'm sure you already knew that).

As for glossy in PVA/IPS all there really is are iMacs these days? There could be one I'm missing, but certainly nothing notable.

Any idea what panel type is used with the new LG W2286L LED backlight panel? It looks pretty sweet, but for the price, probably TN. I do photo editing, so I'm a little skeptical.

Yes, I am almost certain it is a TN, due to the price and viewing angle specs.

I'm interested in knowing how my Samsung 2333SW (23" at 1920x1080) compares with the suggested monitors.

The Samsung 2333SW is a TN. Some of the suggested monitors offer 1920x1200 resolution at 24" and have S-PVA and H-IPS panels, far superior in terms of viewing angle. The suggested ones also offer wider color gamut. Yours offers sRGB, which can appear better for conventional material however assuming you don't do proper processing on your wide gamut display.

The 2333SW is probably not bad (I don't know, I haven't seen reviews of it), but I think you would be a good deal happier with the recommended ones. The recommended ones also offer tons more inputs. They are about twice the price though. In terms of value you probably did not get a bad deal but I would still buy the recommended ones any day for twice as much.

Thank you.

My understanding of wide gamut is limited, and I will go read up on it.

If you are moving from a 20WMGX2, you might want the LCD2490WUXi. It is also standard gamut.

I moved from the 20WMGX2 to the LCD2690...well it's nice, but quite a change from sRGB. Sometimes I wish I had the true sRGB panel.

I'm working my way through the relevant Hard|Forum thread, but might I ask why the NEC EA231WMi doesn't get much attention here? Of course I'd prefer 1920x1200 to 1080, but otherwise this seems a fairly attractive monitor given its slightly > $300 price on sale. And it offers a 'close to' sRGB gamut?

The uniformity issues with LG.Display IPS panels have become totally unacceptable. When are they going to get on top of their manufacturing QA?

Edited: after completing the Hard|Forum thread, I've noted that NEC seems more reluctant to approve display exchanges, especially owing to uniformity issues. Their staff claim not to be able to see the uniformity problems. This is in marked contrast to Dell's return policy. Something to keep in mind when choosing between this NEC and, say, the U2410.

ToastyX is currently waiting for his third NEC EA231WMi (the first two were of unacceptable quality -- the second had dirt specks -- bloody LG.Display!). Am very interested in seeing his assessment of a good sample of this display.

Perhaps the uniformity issues are a reason not to put it on the list right now. Although, does it have more problems than the 24" LG H-IPS I already recommend? I'm not sure...

It looks promising, though. I kind of forgot about it when I was waiting for reviews. Good to see ToastyX got a hold of it.

I would consider recommending it, however I don't see it in stock anymore.

Thanks, I looked at those. I have read of good things about ASUS monitors so I may just bite it on what I said about them. The cnet was just a reference to show what I was looking at. I usually use this site for my information regarding purchases related to my computer and it has not failed me yet.

I did come across this on Hard Forums as a good monitor (listed on front page also):

http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VW266H-25...8702192&sr=8-1

The ASUS is a TN panel while the samsung you posted is a PVA panel. I may just get a smaller monitor than the 24"-26" I was hoping for at a good price to get a better panel.

Edit:

I read this post before http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1333099&highlight=T260HD as well as a few other comments spoken on other threads and thought about the T260HD then. I am still looking. The ASUS has gotten numerous good things said about it from what I have read.

According to http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1039222 the Gateway FPD2185W I have is a S-PVA. I did not really know what it was until I saw that.

The T260HD is not too good. I would try the ASUS as CrystalBay did. For gaming I am thinking TN is the best idea for you, and the ASUS has best-in-class response time.
