Over Thanksgiving I visited a good friend of mine who is rockin' the NEC 2490, and it's a glorious monitor. Absolutely stunning. I played some FPS games on it and the response time and input lag seemed more than acceptable to me.

I just have to decide if ~$450 is worth trying a refurb. I have some thinking to do.

Does anyone know if LaCie Blue Eye Pro worth the money...? It's almost +$100 compared to Xrite Eye-one 2 while using the same HW...

My LG W2486L comes today via UPS. I'll post an update once I have the monitor calibrated and all that jazz. Fairly excited to see how much better this over my 4 year old Samsung.

Personally I think the $450ish NEC LCD2490WUXi-BK from edexdeals.com is the best bang for buck monitor and should suit the most critical viewer and not disappoint anyone but the most diehard of gamers.

Full one year warranty from NEC.

After spending months bouncing between the Dell U2410 and the HP LP2475w, afraid of pulling the trigger on either due to the common complain about inconsistent panel color uniformity, the refurbished NEC seems like the only other option for a budget 24" IPS monitor.

I've never seriously considered going with a refurbished monitor, but the reputation of the LCD2490WUXi seems to be second to none. I guess the 1 year warranty is the only thing that gives me pause.

How was dealing with edexdeals.com - I've never heard of them before?

Thanks.

The 23" isn't really bad for $399 MSRP but it's just 1920x1080 while the 1920x1200 26" is pretty expensive for $1,299, I agree.

It's 1920x1080 and 14ms... 'nuff said.

BTW my U2410 shipped yesterday, should be receiving on Saturday. :awe:

DOes anyone know how could I use a DPT-94 puck under Windows 7? BSOD'd when I plugged in and tried installing it...
This Monaco Optix XR Pro package is long discontinued but would give me something until I get a new unit...

I just ordered Dell U2410, been waiting for a while for them to be discounted. In case there are interested Canadians, it's currently on Dell's days of deals for $480+tax, down from $750 which seemed steep to me compared to say LP2475W...

Very doubtful. The Eye One 2 is perfectly fine and will calibrate already to 3-10x what your eye can differentiate, anyway.

Besides, they use the same hardware, at least according to some info I found on the net.

The only thing is that it is able to display charts - that could come handy for evaluation purposes for me (aside of many different 23-24" LCDs I also have 50+ 21-22" high-end CRTs like LaCie and NEC here), right?

It's back to $750 in Canada, it must have been like a 1-day deal. I don't like the price in Canada, CDN$750 vs US$600 regular price, US$ is only like 5% stronger, and they're rarely on discount over here...

any 24" IPS sets with LED backlights yet?

I know my LG W2486L is kinda like lipstick on a pig with the LED backlighting on a TN panel but viewing angles aside, its amazing. I've never seen such a pure black in a LCD monitor before(though it cheats a little, an all black screen sometimes it'll literally just shut the backlighting off...so of course it's then black)

But for a gaming/movie watching monitor it's awesome. No ghosting I've noticed, just had to fiddle a little bit with contrast/brightness and been watching 1080P goodness the last few days. Planet Earth + 1080P + this monitor= amazing.

I am really tempted by the refurb LCD2490WUXi-BK but I'm terrified of spending $434 and finding a bunch of dead pixels and burnt in images.

I guess I'll need to get a good deal on a calibrator as I've never ever used anything but TN garbage before so I've never had to calibrate colors. What's the best way to test the refurb when it arrives to see if it's undamaged?

I was going to go with the U2410 as at least it's brand new, but I hear only amazing things about the 2490.

Edit: I'm impatient and rather than thinking I just ordered the damn thing. Most expensive monitor I've ever owned (by a huge amount - $560 with shipping/tax. I'm currently on a cheapo 20" acer TN display.)

Oh god I am so inept. I accidently (and I honestly mean accidently) bought a LCD2690WUXI2-BX instead of the 2490WUXI. How.. How bad can it be?

Edit: I emailed them to see if they can swap it, because I feel really stupid.

lol... such a mistake. Hopefully they can fix it for you.

BTW, I assume you're talking about the reseller mentioned on the past page or two of this thread? I chatted with someone there from support and they say that NEC is an exception to the burn-in possibility on refurbished monitors. Citing that NEC won't let them resell anything with screen burn. So, hopefully you get a fine display.

I am talking about them, it's good news that they cannot sell screens with burn because that was my biggest worry; some dusty monitor hanging in a lobby of a building displaying the same screen for weeks on end.

My newest hobby is harrassing all my friends in the boston area to see if anyone owns a hardware calibrator that can be used with spectraview. I can maybe buy the software but the full $300 package is a bit much for me.
