Awesome! At $425.00, it will save me $125 from the Dell U2410 I was planning on getting. I just need to wait for some reviews so I can find out if the reasons it is so cheap are deal breakers or not.

Here is a link to purchase the HP ZR24w from their site: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en...1-4101131.html

If there was a review out there showing input lag measurements and ghosting for games, and it was at least better than the u2410 marginally, I would send back the monitor I settled for and the powered adapter I had to buy because of the lack of display port and purchase this. I wonder who will up a review first.

If you purchase could you run a quick input lag test and write a quick review of your thoughts on it?

HP lists the ZR24w panel as S-IPS but then specifies 'H2-IPS'. Does this actually mean anything? TFT Central cites this as an HP-specific term (along with 'UH-IPS'), but it doesn't seem to have any concrete improvements other than 'energy efficiency' (cf NEC's p-IPS, which brings 10-bit IPS panels).

The $425 intro price seems suspiciously cheap / aggressive given the $500 price of the U2410. For most of us the real question is how good an LG.Display panel distribution can HP get at that price range?

I really hope TFT Central reviews the ZR24W soon. Would also love to see Anand have a go with it up against the U2410 and maybe a few others. Maybe a new 24" roundup or something.

I have high hopes for this screen....

The price is a bit low, I think that the screen is really geared towards gaming and not towards perfect color reproduction. I believe Z is supposed to indicate their new performance series of monitors. Obviously 5ms 12ms is not the fastest times but if the screen can consistently hit those times I think streaking etc should not be that bad at all.

Well, HP's aggressive pricing is beginning to pay off for consumers. Dell is now offering the U2410 for $449 US. After applying 10 per cent coupon 'J3$5B30MDZ8?FG', the price (pre-tax) will drop to $449.10. Coupon expires tomorrow.

I'll need to learn more about sRGB 'software emulation' (XTKnight?) before deciding whether wide gamut can be a benefit after all. And of course we'll need professional and customer reviews of the ZR24w.

I'm trying to spend in the $200-250 range for a nice 22"+ monitor mostly for gaming, web design, and photo editing. Anyone have some suggestions? The first post doesn't seem to a have a good listing of quality monitors on a budget. Only the high-end ones.

I had hoped to wait till the Dell 2209wa dropped in price some, but it's been $300+ for 6 months or so.

Average is fine. Just looking for something with good refresh rate, 22+ inches in size, would prefer a 19XXx12XX monitor. Been holding out for the 2209WA, but it hasn't dropped below $300 in 6 months so I'm doubting it ever will again.

Plus I don't know where people get dell coupons and discounts. I never seem to hear about them till they've expired (ala the one posted a page back or so).

Greetings xtknight and others,

I've been lurking this thread for several years and came back for another recommendation. Xtknight, your recommendation on the HP LP2065 was pretty darn awesome and has lasted me until now. I'm on the verge of graduating in May and I'm in the market for another monitor (or two). Can you, or anyone else make a recommendation for my needs?

What I do with my monitor:
60% is reading web pages... and yes, I get annoyed by 'screen door effect'.
40% is watching movies, tv shows, etc...

I don't like the Screen Door Effect of IPS panels but I do like IPS for movies... except my panel does a bad job of black levels. For example, there are some photos where everything looks black, but they show up as actual 'stuff' on my laptop's LED TN panel.

Question:
Is there one monitor that will do an outstanding job for both, or should I just buy two? Recommendation?

Thanks,

Robert

rxblitzrx, is there noticeable 'screen door' on your HP LP2065? I've never thought of IPS panels as suffering this annoyance more than other panel types... Do recall one punter thinking the LP2475w suffered more pronounced screen door. I do not consider screen door significant on any of my current IPS panels (of course the pixels are pretty small on a 27-inch 2560x1440 screen--and the iMac is glossy). The worst screen door I dealt with was one my old Samsung PVA panels. Excessive grainy antiglare coating seems to be the more salient problem with current (matte) IPS displays when viewing whites.

Are you seeing 'black crush' on your desktop monitor? IPS panels generally do not offer the best blacks compared to PVA panels, which is, I presume, one of the reasons why most large HDTVs are PVA/MVA.

If colour accuracy (esp for graphics / print editing) isn't a paramount concern, your needs sound like they might be met by a PVA panel. And probably sRGB gamut. However, in the past year or so we've seen a host of affordable IPS displays, and I've not seen a lot of excitement / reviews about recent PVA monitors. Mmm.

Like most of us, I expect you'll be waiting to see how the new HP ZR24w pans out...

Is the LG Flatron L227WTG-PF still a good gaming monitor? There doesn't seem to be too many of them around anymore. Overstock.com has some refurbs for less than $150. I'm looking to finally make the jump from my CRTs and it's still 2nd on the list of recommended gaming monitors.

That is an excellent monitor. If I had to pick a 22 inch TN that was awesome at games and just a good all around monitor it would be the LG L227 The only ding I would give it is, the stand is a bit on the wobbly side...

Looking to add a second monitor to my Dell 2001FP. Looking between 22-24 inches. I mostly game, watch tv/movies, surf net, excel, program. My budget is to be under $350.
I'd like a monitor with an adjustable stand, good 3 year warranty, and a good dead pixel return policy too. I'm thinking of getting it from Amazon because of free shipping/tax to CA.
Any recommendations?

What i've considering so far...

Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey guys,

Been a long time lurker of this thread. Just finished a new build and am waiting for parts to arrive. The only thing I don't have is a new monitor. My current monitor is a Sony (SDM-HS95) 19" LCD with max resolution of 1280x1024 that I bought ~4 and 1/2 years ago.

I am looking to pair this new rig with a new 23" 1920x1280 monitor. I have read a crazy amount of reviews. One I am basing a lot off of is this over at X-bit. I am a med student so spend a lot of time reading on the net (medical articles and pdf files), but enjoy gaming in my spare time. My gaming includes Demigod, Civilization IV, Company of Heroes, Tropico 3, and Fallout 3. So, mostly RTS with some FPS and TBS thrown in. I also watch movies, but mostly (70&#37 on my projector (this could change since projector is only 1024x768). I would prefer to not buy a monitor again for 4-ish years. Should I go with the Acer 235HZ or Samsung SyncMaster P2370 or something else entirely?

I obviously don't currently have an NVIDIA card, but do hope to game in 3D when a standard rolls out (hopefully before 2 years). Looking for something future proof (as if that is possible). Hope to buy soon, so that I can have it when everything arrives (plan to order in 48 hrs.).

Hope you guys can help.

My new rig is:
Silverstone FT02-B
GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R
Core i7 930
Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme-1366 RT Rev. C CPU Heatsink
CORSAIR XMS3 6GB DDR3 1600 @ 7-8-7-20
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5850
SeaSonic X650 Gold 650W Power Supply

Try the ZR24w threads here and on Hard|Forum. Bear in mind, it's early days yet, so don't think because a few punters have reported great or poor panels that HP has markedly superior QA to Dell and their U2410. Myself, I'll probably need to wait a month or two before I can even think of making a decision between the two.

Sometimes I wonder if I should have bought those refurb NEC LCD2490WUXis, one-year warranty be damned...

When I say basement I mean that the monitor has been released downunder
Here's a new IPS monitor in the mid-range size that may be worth a look at (if you can get it where you are.).

http://www.aocmonitor-anz.com/lcd_monitor/if23.php

I am obviously in australia and am thus very interested in this monitor for my small scale home theater setup as the viewing angles would be good for all viewers.

How do people think this would compare to the Dell 22 inch e-ips monitor e.g.
I think I may wait for some reviews although the Australian price of $355.30 including postage at auspcmarket.com is pretty good I must say for an ips monitor. I will use the htpc for tv/dvd/blueray???/web browsing and thus am mostly interested in how these monitors would replay action such as soccer matches and fast moving pictures.

I wonder if it is going to be released anywhere else and what ppls though of the radical non-conventional stand design. I'm also wondering if that sticky outy bit at the back is able to be folded down for a flush wallmount, but I guess i'll wait on some detailed reviews.

So after months of thinking about it, today I finally upgraded my old 19" Viewsonic VX922 or VX924...can't remember exactly what it is right now, to a Dell U2410. Been very happy with the Viewsonic the past 4 years, and will be sad to let it go. That being said, from what I've read, I think the U2410 will be an awesome replacement.

I'd get the new HP IPS monitor myself its about $200 cheaper than the Dell U2410 and from what I've heard the AG coating on it is much better.

Wow I can see the world of LCDs is still confusing for a new buyer. Im looking to replace my FW900 CRT because its finally starting to fail after 8 years,it works fine when its on but getting it to power up is the issue lately.

Is the Dell 2408WFP still a good choice today? Im pretty picky with black level performance and ghosting / motion blur.. I like to game a lot but im not a fan of TN viewing angles.. Am I screwed? lol
