When you say 'colour work', do you work in sRGB or do you require a wider gamut? I think all of the 23-inch IPS displays are sRGB. A third possibility, using I believe the same LG.Display panel, is the Dell U2311H, which was available for $239 recently. Reviews are just starting to appear. The first wave of punters at Hard|Forum did report a high proportion of QA issues, however.

Not to mention availability issues. Still waiting for my 5/23 order that has been delayed twice. I must be lucky because some others got delayed well into July. I guarantee that any new purchase of the 2311 won't arrive at your door this month. Besides, the 20% coupon is dead (apparently)... at half the price of the next monitor up (2410), it was probably a price mistake anyways.

I guess wait for the next deal of a lifetime if you're shopping for a eIPS.

All I have to say is when many people ask me for the best of the best, they'd really be ok with an off the shelf display.

Same thing is happening in the TV world with people that just bought the biggest CRT style they could afford cheapest.

Now everyone is hashing it out.

U2311 Delayed to 7/22 ... screw it. I need a monitor this month for work.

HP gets my business this time. Dell gets a nice e-mail rant.

Just want to say that I picked up a u2711 from craigslist for $300. srsly.

It's under warranty, and so far no issues. There is always a nice price for the patient; I'd never consider paying full list price on this monitor.

Also, last I saw there was a stackable 20% off Dell small business coupon on ebay.

Registered just to post this although I have been reading this thread since Day One. I was going to post a long background message on my experience with monitors, but I figure you don't want to hear it.

Instead I'll keep it very short & sweet. I'm hyper-critical of monitors and every flaw jumps out and bugs the bejeezus out of me & it'll be the only thing I can see on the screen.

Having said that, Tuesday morning I took delivery of an HP ZR24W to replace my old NEC MultiSync FP2141SB 22" Diamondtron monitor and the bottom line is it is a perfect specimen. I've been scrutinizing it closely all week trying to find a flaw, but there just isn't any too be found.

No dead pixels. No backlight bleed. No pink-to-green tinting. No excessive heat after having it on for 7 hours straight. Color and black levels are very good with the exception of a little IPS glow, but even that doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would.

I feel like I accidentally got a 'golden sample' that was intended for a reviewer or something as all the complaints I have seen on the internet regarding this model monitor simply do not apply to this unit.

I haven't calibrated it yet with a colorimeter, but when I do I expect things will only get better.

One thing that did surprise me is that on the driver CD is a full retail copy of Pivot Pro which sells for $39.95 and it can be upgraded to the latest version free of charge. No review or internet forum even mention this. I've only owned this monitor less than a week and I'm already saving money!

And sympathies to all Dell U2311 owners (or prospective owners). Having your orders delayed till 7/22 is simply unacceptable.

Once in awhile a breath of fresh air, thanks!

Tell me about it. Reading all the user reviews around the net I was almost convinced it was impossible to get a perfect unit.

There are people who bought the ZR24W at launch still playing the exchange game with HP because of backlight bleed & dead pixels. It's even worse in the Dell U2410 camp.

Keep the faith, fellow obsessives. There's a perfect monitor out there waiting for you....unless you're wanting a Dell U2311.

Are we allowed to make individual threads concerning monitors? Most of the threads here are about graphics cards, so forgive me if this is in the wrong place.

I'm looking for pink gaming monitor.

Yes, hot pink to be precise. I've looked up, down and all around and I've only found one that seems suitable, via Amazon. I'm currently using a 12 to 13-year-old HP CRT that may die at any second. I was actually given a new LCD monitor a couple years ago, but had to return it because it did a number on my eyes. Regardless of what I did to the settings, my eyes were watery and strained after only an hour or so. Of the ones I've seen in person nowadays, the displays looks much better. At the time, the only flat panel that didn't give me issues was a $3000 Apple cinema display. Ha ha ha. No.

I use my pc mostly for gaming and so I'm not really looking for anything larger than 19 inches. I WANT pink, but I realize that I just may not be able to find one. While I'm considering reusing and painting my pc case for a future new build, old Alienware full tower, I'm not really sure that's a good idea for a monitor. A few custom color places I've found online say no because of warranty issues, which is also the reason I'm not too keen on doing it myself either. I figure if it's easier to find a plain case to use if I mess up my old one than it is to replace or fix a display. I know there are still a few companies that make CRTs that might be easier to paint, but I'm sure I want a flat panel for portability and the smaller footprint.

The one I'm considering from Amazon is made by Favi:
http://www.amazon.com/FAVI-L1918A-V-P-19-I...Y/ref=de_a_smtd

I live in the USA. I'd be willing to have something shipped from abroad, mostly the UK, but only if the total cost doesn't exceed 300 USD.

The 5ms response time is slower than the 2ms I've seen on on the latest gaming displays, but I'm fully aware that I'd be paying mostly for the pink and not the specs. I just don't know if ghosting will be an issue. Again, I've been using the same home monitor for 12 years, and haven't really done much other than surf the internet elsewhere. I'd just like to know if it's worth giving it a try or if it's completely awful, and if there's anything else out there.

Oh, I'm also wondering whether or not my current pc will have any problems using a newer monitor. It's a P4 2.54 GHZ with 1GB of ram, and a Sapphire X1650 512 MB pro graphics card.

Thank-you for reading my incredibly long post.

It should be pretty easy to find an LCD you like and have it refinished. There is not much to the casing.

What's the top gaming LCD at the moment, that is generally available?

The list in the OP has Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ and LG Flatron L227WTG-PF as #1 and 2, but those seem to have been out of stock everywhere for some time.

Can you be more specific as in pointing me to a link to someplace that will, unless you're suggesting I do it myself? Again, my main concern would be voiding the warranty if I were to attempt this myself.

I know Smooth Creations will paint monitors as this web page displays:

http://www.smoothcreations.com/pilot.asp?pg=system-diablo

However I don't know if they would insist on you buying a system from them before they'd talk to you. Guess you could email them and see. Their email address is on their home page.

Another site I found with a quick search is this one:

http://www.puters.ledm.us/

I would just hope his painting skills are better than his web page coding knowledge.

I think one of the problems you are going to run into is there's not a lot of choice for 19" displays anymore. Nobody really wants them.

It's a real shame you aren't open to something larger because you could then go for something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Sceptre-Class-.../dp/B0028OPUME

Less money, but a bigger size, 1080p, and from a more well-known brand name. And, just my personal opinion, that Sceptre's a better looking monitor.

Or should I say, HDTV. Both the Favi & the Sceptre are HDTVs & not technically computer monitors. Doesn't look like anyone makes a pink computer monitor.

Hope this post opens up some options for you & doesn't muddy the waters with too many options.

Are there any coupons, credit cards, etc... to discount the price of the HP ZR24w?

Cheapest place I found was by doing a search on google-shopping. One store has it for $399 with no tax and free shipping. It shows 29,000 seller ratings and average of 4.8 out of 5.0.

Does this sound legit? $399 is cheap!!

What I did was bought one from the Buy.com store/presence on eBay. The price was $405.99 with free shipping, but buying it through eBay/Pal allowed me to line up a string of modest stacking discounts: 8% Bing CashBack, 1% FatWallet Cash Back, 2% cash back on my credit card, and $8.xx in eBay Bucks. This brought the price down to around $355.

Not a spectacular discount, but was the best I could find at the time I bought mine by far and the HP zr24w will soundly thrash any monitor in the $350 price range.

8% bing cash back sounds substantial. Did it really work? I remember trying to get into Bing back in December, but it seemed like too much red tape.

Can anybody confirm the ZR30w doesn't have a sRGB emulation mode? I wanted to contact Brian Klug about this but couldn't find his email anywhere.

So after a week with the U2410 I think it's a pretty decent monitor. But it's a little bit too bright. Is there a way to reduce the brightness w/o compromising the color reproduction?

Well, I'm still in my countdown timer to when the funds will be available to me so I don't know if it's going to work or not, but so far so good.

I hope the unit you receive is as good as the one I got.

as far as bing cashback goes I have had good luck even in the 25% range...only a few times something went haywire and my session was lost at checkout.

In about 75% of those I got my cashback still.

It's going away though...it was great while it lasted.
