If anyone is interested, I saw the HP ZR24w on sale at tigerdirect for 399 minus 10% to 12% bing cash back and free shipping. Total was like ~$350 from what people calculated. I don't know how good of a company tiger direct is though.

any thoughts?

I dunno how awesome the Dell U2410 is, but I just got on my new HP ZR24w and, for the price, I can't complain. It blows my old HP LP2065 20.1" S-IPS panel out of the water.

The size is definitely impressive in comparison, but the colors really pop on this one compared to my old panel. I'm using it on a VGA connection right now too since my computer isn't built yet. It's still pretty freaking awesome without calibration and DVI-D output.

Can I get better results with DVI-D or Display Port?

Can VGA drive 1920x1200? DVI-D will definitely make a difference!

I guess so??

I have it plugged into my laptop until I get my desktop built. As far as I know, it's running 1920x1200 according to the settings.

Very satisfied with the results so far.

I'm glad you liked it. I'd have felt bad recommending it to you if you had gotten a faulty unit.

Well, those are 100% digital connections while the VGA connection is analog. For the last 5+ years I was using a VGA connection with a CRT & now my monitor connection is DisplayPort. While I'm sure the display results are better undoubtedly, what I really like is the connection hardware. There's no worries of bent pins, no screws to tighten down with risk of stripping, etc.

I agree,Display port is very cool and much less trouble than HDMI/DVI/VGA etc.
Also,yes,the U2410 is killer.

The U2410 is killer *if* one wants a wide-gamut monitor. A lot of people do, but a lot of people like me don't.

In the realm of standard gamut monitors the HP zr24w is your only 24" 16:10 monitor choice with an IPS panel for less than $1,000.

Hey guys, does anyone know how to access the service menu on Asus monitors?

I've got a VH236H and I'm in a bit of a predicament, it has HDMI, DVI and VGA inputs, but I'm already using HDMI for my consoles, and VGA with a conversion box for my Wii, so I'm using DVI-D for my desktop use. Only problem is it's a bit too sharp for my liking in this mode, and it doesn't allow for adjustments when set to "Standard", which gives me the best all around colour.

So I'm hoping there's SOMETHING I can do to tweak this, I can go back to VGA and manually adjust the focus to 0 and it'll look great, but I get no option under DVI-D.

So, yeah, anyone know how to access the service menu on these things? Google hasn't helped me beyond pointing me to this topic.

Hello guys.
I`ve been thinking of buying a Samsung B2030...
I use my PC for gaming and 3D modeling, is that monitor a good choice?
Also, what exactly is the difference between the B2030 and the B2030n? I can`t seem to find anything online?

Thanks in advance.

What's a good size monitor for office work? Also what is a good resolution to get. I was thinking about a monitor in the 22-23 range or so. At home I have an LG L227WTG which I think would be perfect but not sure on the 1650 by 1080 resolution

What is the best 23-24inch TN panel that's not 120hz? looking for 1920x1080 res
I'd recommend the Asus VH236H that I mentioned above. :awe:

2ms g2g, almost no input lag (testing done on it by members of Shoryuken.com), DVI-D, VGA, HDMI ports, built-in (albeit crappy) speakers, 1920x1080, and to top it off it's pretty cheap all things considered. Highly rated on Newegg as well: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236059

One of the best monitors you can find for games, easily.

Looking for a good 24" to 30" monitor for office use (mainly AutoCAD and 3D modeling). Budget is not the greatest concern but the cheaper the better.

I got interested in buying a new monitor after reading the review on the GTX 460 and playing some SC2. Plus I wanted a new monitor for a long time now so I've been searching around and doing some research on and off. I'm a multimedia person user. Multiple HDMI and DVI ports are a plus, as it'd be neat to connect things other than my computer to the monitor. Size of the monitor doesn't matter to me.

Currently, I'm interested in the following:

Well you get the idea. There's a lot of monitors that look really good and if I was to buy one, I'm not sure which to buy. Can someone help me out?

Thanks.

I've read a lot posts in this thread and the more I do the more undecided it makes me. I have a 22" 226bw Samsung and for my next monitor purchase I am sure I want an IPS panel, but still so many questions. From what I read I should take an IPS monitor over one with LED, so I'll do that as long as that monitor has a decent response time to play my games.

I'm looking for a monitor between 24" and 26" IPS full HD that will not show ghosting. I don't know about about whether 16:9 or 16:10 because I read different point of views on that. But if I can find a monitor meeting those requirements I'll definitely be getting one for gaming with a system I'll building. I've heard about the U2410 or the ZR24w, but I read others complain... so I'm not sure. I just don't want to buy another monitor and then be wish I had bought something else.

I'm in the exact same boat as you are. I spent days researching and this is the conclusion i've reached: I have never owned an IPS screen to know just how terrible a TN is by comparison, so I think im just going to get a 200ish dollar TN panel for now and maybe wait a couple of years for an IPS screen once the technology has evolved a little bit.

The 2 screens you mentioned are the ones ive been trying to decide between. Everything I read makes me think i would probably like the U2410 the most, but then again im not sure how I would like the wide-gamut. The ZR24w doesn't seem all that bad, but ive seen people complain about the blacks not being black enough or the contrast ratio being relatively poor. These are really the only 2 panels that aren't really expensive that seem like theyd be OK for gaming. Some of the other cheaper ones, like the Dell u2311h have much worse response times.

I just ordered a Dell UltraSharp U2311H so I can finally transition from a CRT (gasp!) to this new-fangled LCD tech.

I'd love to post my thoughts and comments in here but delivery might take up to 2 weeks. I can't really do a side-by-side comparison because I'm only familiar with the LCDs we have at work - and I mostly use a five-year-old HP L1905 at work or a Dell UltraSharp 2007WFP (again a 4-year-old monitor) there. But let's see how it goes.

Is the 2490 Multisync really that good? Why wasn't the Spectra series version #1? Also I would have thought LaCie would have garnered the top spot with their 100% plus NTSC and Adobe RGB models. And there was no mention of the Dell U2711 27". Surprised. Has received good reviews and is accurate out of the box. Even better calibrated.

And are they NEC Spectra series worth almost twice as much as a comparable sized Dell? (e.g. NEC 2690 vs Dell U2711) Even some of the 24" NEC Spectra series monitors are twice as much as the Dell. What gives?

And if you were going to buy a 30" screen for photo editing what would be your #1 choice? Why?

The 2490 was a great monitor. The monitors that cost more than it were simply out of the range of most people's wallets. The 2490 also has a good balance of performance to go with it's color accuracy.

All that said is it worth double another monitor? I'd say to most probably not. Most are shopping specs and have no idea what looks good...it's like the whole 1080i vs 1080p, 120hz vs 240Hz, debates. In the past people shopped mostly price and size...today everyone wants the best even if they don't know what that means.

Perhaps I'll just go for a Dell U2711 (27"). Has received good reviews. Accurate out of the box (though, I will be buying a Colormunki to calibrate it and my new printer).

Not sure I want to pay another $1500.00 for 3 more inches (e.g. NEC 3090). Unless some one can convince me the NEC is SO MUCH better than the Dell. In terms of picture quality & color accuracy.

Really, I'm just looking for a very good monitor I can calibrate to match the out put from my future photo printer (Epson R1900 or R2880). I'm assuming the Dell will be "good enough".

if you are just looking to calibrate to high-end consumer printers you can get by with a lot less. Most looking at spending $900+ on a monitor don't have the option to spend 2x that again as an 'option'.

Also if you are looking at just the ColorMunki design then you are short changing yourself further.

I have a 1400 Epson. Eye One Display, and the NEC2490. It's a very accurate setup. However, I am not doing print to publish...just snap shots and the like for friends and family. I wanted an accurate LCD because I never had a subpar display. Before I made the jump to LCD I was running a G500 Sony and debating the FW900 24" crt. It just didn't make sense other than a financial limiting one.

I was lucky to pick up a New Old Stock NEC2490 quite a few months ago.

How would I be short changing myself by buying a $900.00 CAD Dell 27" monitor (U2711) and further by buying a Colormunki???

I'm looking at wide gamut monitors (at least 26" to 30") mainly for photo editing. So it must be accurate or be able to be calibrated to be very accurate. As I would like to be able to match what I see on the screen with the print from my new photo printer (R1900 or R2880....maaaaybe the 3880...as it uses K3 inks and doesn't require you to swap in/out the gloss/matte black inks...like the R1900).

So for me it's between the Dell U2711, NEC 2690 and maybe the 3090. Though I think the 27" Dell will be "good enough".
