Can someone link me to the "best for gaming" list? I'm looking to get a new monitor for a new gaming build. I was thinking 1080p+ resolution... I haven't kept up so any recommendations will be great.

Budget is probably 400 ish i don't know

It's in the 2nd post of this thread.

Buy.com lowered their price for the similar ViewSonic VX2268WM to $259 (US) (free shipping). It's not 1080P though.

It's enabled. The thing is your video card, the OS and video drivers have to support it. Most even argue that most 8 bit setups are a bit wasted in many things. What are you looking to accomplish or just concerned on specs?

hmm....under nv control panel it doesn't seem like i have 10 bit output. do you happen to know what OS (I'm using vista) and vid card (GTX280) is needed to enable 10 bit output? to answer your question, i'm mostly just concerned on specs (and trying to prove to a friend that there is such thing as 10 bit colour).

You just asked "where's the list?"...yeah, the list seems about a year out of date.

Well, if you consider 120Hz monitors "best for games", check out the thread here: hardforum.com

There are several models that might suit your needs:

Acer GD235HZ 23.6" 1920x1080 TN
Alienware OptiX AW2310 23" 1920x1080 TN
Asus VG236H 23.6" 1920x1080 TN
LG Flatron W2363D 23.6" 1920x1080 TN

As far as I can tell, the LG one is not available in the US market.
The Acer one is $370 at Newegg.
The AlienWare one is on sale at dell for $440.

Here is a somewhat noob question: where are the gaming high res monitors? I might want a 2560x1600 res monitor for playing, but the one mentioned is kinda slow, and is over 1000 dollars. Are there any 2560x1600 res monitors for gaming that are under 1k? It doesnt need to have the best screen or panel quality, I just think an affordable gaming solution at a high res would be nice.

For reference, my current monitor is an Asus 25.5" @ 1920x1200. Thanks in advance.

Any idea as to whether Dell has sorted out the issues with the 24" U2410 display? Or do you just order from Dell and exchange it until you get a good one?

I'm building a new Windows machine, it will be sitting near a 24" Cinema Display and I'd like to find a comparable IPS display w/ the same resolution.

What's a good monitor that can be had for less than $200? A 20" is enough. Needs to have dvi.

Hi guys,

I'm considering getting a new monitor. I use my computer for gaming, reading forums, and surfing the web. I have been playing BFBC2 lately (FPS) and reading up on PC and Car forums. I recently upgraded my system and now am running a unlocked Phenom II 555BE (4 cores @ 3.5Ghz), 2x2gb of ram, BFG 8800GTS (640mb), a WD 640GB Black HD, and OCZ 700W PSU. Even older then my Video card is my Samsung 204b monitor (1600 x 1200). Please take into consideration that I am running Win XP Pro SP3 (DX9.0c).

As you might have noticed, I don't really change what isn't a problem. One of the few reasons that I am considering changing my monitor is that I think that the Widescreen will help with my gaming (need to see more guys in my peripheral vision). I game at 1600 x 1200 with AF @ 8x, most settings at high and still get 50+ FPS in BFBC2 (but, in my settings AA is limited to 1x (perhaps because of DC 9?)).

While I don't mind the colors on this TN panel, I think I might like to see what I have been missing with a IPS panel, but I am not sure it is the right choice for me (slower response times? input lag?). Another thing that I 'think' I want is 1920 x 1200 minimum resolution. I think that going from 1200 vertical to 1080 vertical will bother me to no end as I try and read forums.

If things go as planned, I might get a new Video card next (looking at the Nvidia 460 1GB (faster bus speed then the 768MB)) and then I might get Windows 7 after that.

One other consideration would be if the pixel pitch of the new monitor is pretty similar to my Samsung (0.255mm), could I put that next to the new monitor and see if I like dual screens (seems a bit silly: going from 1600x1200 to 1920x1200 and then maybe even 3520x1200). I have no idea if that would be supported, but I figure now would be the time to ask.

I've been reading up (in this thread) on the HP ZR24w monitor and I was considering it. But, I figured that I should ask here since I'd like to learn what you guys think before I spend my hard earned money. I'll have $500 in Paypal by the end of the week and I'd like to use paypal for my purchase. Of course, the more I spend on the monitor means the longer I'll have to wait to buy my Video card / Win7.

I am sorry for such a long post. I just want to be clear on my position and constraints. If any more information is needed, just ask. Again, I won't be able to buy until the end of the week, so I'll check back at least daily.

Ive been eying HP ZR24w too. Dont understand why newegg wont adjust the price down to reflect HPs price ($100 less ask by HP).

I too dont want the 16:9. The 16:10 has been demonstrated to be better for productivity.
An issue with HP ZR24w might be "the dirty look" reported for its IPS implementation.

In your case, inherent slowness of the IPS type panel could be an issue. If your really set on gaming, I dont know why you would need an IPS necessarily. There are some nice five star TN with 170/160 viewing angles which people seem satisfied with.

My case is completely different as I need the monitor for general purpose use - documents, photos, special projects, etc. I need the desktop real estate & games are effectively not applicable.

I am interested in hearing respondents of HP ZR24w experience. I think we will not see too much HP ZR24w action on newegg till they move the pricing for this LCD commensurate with the manufacturers.

I agree that Neweggs price is ridiculous. It is still $105 more then at the HP website after Newegg gives you $20 off (was $549.99, now $529.99). I swear, Newegg is losing more and more of my business this year.

I certainly don't think that I implied that I 'need an IPS'. But, if someone makes an IPS panel that fits my needs, I'd take it if it was no worse then a TN panel. I don't know if the IPS panels are really inherently slow anymore. Considering my TN panel is rated at 5ms response time, and the HP IPS is rated at 7ms reponse rate, would I notice the difference?

Read back a few pages and you will see some information already shared about the HP ZR24w. Personally, I don't expect to buy this monitor from Newegg. Not only are they overpriced compared to most everyone else, but they don't accept Paypal anymore.

Alright, so after much research and lurking in this thread, I'm pretty much set on ordering a HP LP2475w. But first I wanted to ask if anybody can advise whether it's best to order directly through HP's website, or if I should perhaps try some other retailer (and maybe get the monitor for a bit cheaper)? My main concern is that in case that I receive a monitor that has some defect, who am I going to have more luck with in terms of getting a replacement? Or who might I have more luck with getting a good unit in the first place?

Buy your HP LP2475w from any reputable online store - Amazon, NewEgg, Buy.com, TigerDirect, or directly from HP. Look for the lowest price + shipping. Then call HP for warantee service. I bought my LP2475w in early 2009 (online but don't remember where) and went through 5-6 exchanges until HP sent me one without the green/pink tint defect. Read though the last few pages of the following thread, you will see the same problem is still plaguing buyers:

Many overlook that a vendors LCD policy <> to the manufacturers. However, be very careful in the manufacturers policy if you think one dead or stuck pixel = new screen.

Even the 90 Series NEC's don't have 100% protection on all screen pixel defects.

Thanks for all the effort putting this together. I'm shopping for a new LCD and was having a lot of trouble deciding on what screen to buy. Very very helpful. Kudos!

I have a bit of a dilemma with two LCD's

The Dell ST2410:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=320-1070

Hanns-G HH-251HPB

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Tpk=hh-251-hpb

Will be for a double LCD setup on my gaming rig, what's everyones opinion on options?

Get the Hanns-G for gaming and Dell for secondary?

Get two Hanns-G's?

Get two Dell's?

The dell picture I feel will be much crisper since it's 50000:1 compared to the hanns 15000:1.

Also will the 2MS show that much of a difference compared to the dells 5MS in cames like SC2, BC2, and WoW?

Thanks for your time.

Hi guys,
Is the list still being maintained? It seems a bit out of date. If not, can anyone recommend any similar list of "best displays for the money"?
Thank you.

i had a problem with mine and sleep mode, but "fixed" it by removing the vga cord from it (other end wasn't plugged into anything) as far as the display itself it has looked beautiful since i unpacked it.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced 120hz gaming LCD?

Looking for very little input lag this would be mainly used for a lot FPS gaming.
