Hey,

I'm glad to see the thread still going despite my hiatus! I still look here but have been busier than ever with college. I'm definitely a little behind on LCD innovations. But next time I'm in market for an LCD I'll have to catch up with things.

Nice to see you're still around. I'm not that active here anymore, but I still lurk around as well

Would you say your total hardware budget must fall below 700 euros? Because in that case you may want to buy a Dell U2410 and a good display calibrator. Otherwise, you'll definitely appreciate the additional pixels of the Dell U2711 when displaying and editing pictures.

Both the Dell U2410 and U2711 are wide-gamut IPS displays that also can work in Adobe and sRGB modes. The sRGB mode, at least, is supposed to be fairly good; I haven't heard as much about the Adobe RGB mode.

QFT...people spend a ton on the monitor citing that they must have the most accurate colors and then never calibrate it anyway.

Figure $100-200 for a decent calibrator like a Eye One or Spyder 3.

Bright red stuck pixel on my new U2410, and they overcharged my credit card (discount code was not entered correctly, and then was re-entered as a charge not a credit).

Dell rep tried hard to talk me into to a new monitor and a "refund" on the old one. I pointed out their warranty said they would send me a new one for a bright stuck pixel, which I had on a new monitor. This took 2-3 hours of calls and holds and multiple transfers. Honestly I have no faith that Dell will fix my billing issues or not send a referb with issues of its own.

So, I unleashed Amex on them. Both charges disputed.

-- another reason never to use the Dell credit they push, and to use a decent credit card instead.

Second monitor appear to be good on the pixel front. Shipping the old one back. Just down to $59 they owe me (and not getting charge for the old monitor I am shipping back).

Fingers crossed.

well, I went ahead and ordered the HP zr30w for a total of $1110.99, and I am looking forward to it arriving. I hear it comes with a DP cable in the box, which is nice.

Looking for a 23 or 24" monitor for $200 or less.
I game on occasion, less than once a week. Definitely not a serious gamer, but would like to be able to if the mood strikes me.
Mostly web surfing and general computer use. I have an ATI 5850 video card.
I have had a Viewsonic VP912b for a few years and for the most part have been very happy with it.
I would like a few choices so if I happen upon one that is a black Friday deal I would jump on it.
I have read through much of this thread, but most topics relate to sizes or prices that are out of my range.

Lucky devil. Fry's has them:
ASUS VE246H 24" LCD Monitor for $150 after rebate
http://www.frys.com/product/6440852

It is also being advertised in the local paper so it should be available at the brick & morter stores so I would call. It comes up as a four star rated monitor on newegg. Id almost say that it is being phased out, that's why the low price. The model you probably should get is the VW246H which merits five stars on newegg and which newegg has sold approx. 1000 units (very popular).

I was looking at getting a I-inc iH-252HPB 25" LCD monitor for $169, such a tempting price/size. I may wait for black Friday sales, maybe I can get their 28 incher for around that price.

1 Display Size/Type 24.6” Widescreen Active Matrix TFT LCD
2 Resolution 1920 x 1080 (Full HD)
3 Aspect Ratio 16:9
4 Pixel Pitch 0.283(H)mm x 0.283(V)mm
5 Brightness 300cd/m2 (Typical)
6 Response Time 2ms Overdrive, 5ms (Typical)
7 Contrast Ratio X-Contrast 15000:1/DCR (800:1 Typical)
8 Displayable Colors 16.7 Million

Usage is about 65-70% surfing, and the rest watching movies.

Another question is, how is this company? How are their monitors looked at?

I am looking at a 2690wuxi2 for ~700 USD refurb but not sure how it could end up...

currently sitting on 2 20WMGX2's instead and I am trying to find an upgrade from them (im shooting for the same quality, bigger)

I had no problems, my refurb first arrived with a set of bad pixels. Within 3 days I had a new 'refurb'. The new one had zero hours on it actually, screen was perfect.

NEC series 90 monitors are world-class/top notch.

Anyone with an Asus VG236HE (the 120hz panel) that has taken the time to calibrate it with a colorimeter? If so, do you mind sharing what you ended up with as settings? Granted it likely won't match 100% with mine but chances are it's going to be better then the default, or using calibrating via website etc.

Mine is on the delivery truck as I type. I was hoping to hold off till they made 27"s, or managed to use an e-ips panel but my second monitor is starting to die so I need a replacement pronto.

Thanks!

Kinda sorta off topic at the very least a tangent, but I have a doublesight DS-263N that i was thinking of replacing. Anyone know what these might be worth nowdays? There's not a single one on ebay for sale or anywhere else for that matter.

You accepting the torch?

Ha!

I'm almost anal/obsessive enough to qualify, but I frankly don't give a dang about the fast TN / gaming side of the monitor market. I'd only be able to update the 'IPS snob' options.

I do wish XTKnight good luck on his studies... even if they negatively affect this thread.
