OK, so i am in the market for an LCD. I play games and watch movies alot (powered by 8800gts) so obviously i have somewhat high standards. I want a widescreen 22", but in the gamers sections of this thread, all of the listed LCDs were 19". Does anyone have any recommendations for a gamers 22" LCD? My budget is $200-300.

P.S. LG L204WT will be for $220 at CC.
I don't see anything else than the speakers.

EDIT: You can try to decypher This web page to see the exact differences between X221, X222 and X223

The safe route with the Acer would be to get it at a B&M store with a liberal return policy. Try it for 15 days and return it for a full refund if you don't like it.

Personnally, I would not get a 20-inch monitor with the same 1680x1050 resolution as a 22-incher, because the pixel pitch is too small for me on the 20-inch panel. And also, bigger is often better than big  , for example is movies and games.

Acer has one for less than $300 now I think but if you want the best 22" LCD spend an extra $50 ($349) and get the LG226WTQ or one of its many variants. Sometimes you can get a MIR for $30 to go along with it. Also read the previous page. The 22" LCDs are spoken of there.

Quick question regarding the Samsung 940B (one of the top contenders in the Hard-Core Gaming category). I can't seem to find the 940BF being sold by any real reputable sites. I found the 940BX on Newegg for $240, and was wondering if there is really any difference between the 940BF and the BX models? The BX advertises 5ms, while the original post in this thread seems to indicate the BF is 10ms. Dont know if both numbers are what's being advertised, or actual grey-to-grey or black-to-white. So yeah, is the BX basically the same as the BF?

Holy shi*t, I was sad that I missed the first rebate.. now I have to choose between the white 20WMGX2 and a used vx2025wm for half the price. WHY DO I HAVE TO GET MORE OPTIONS AT THE LAST MINUTE EVERY TIME!?!?

I've been thinking, and I'm intending to use this monitor for probably 3-4 years or until some insane deal comes along (24" AS-IPS with the features of a 2407wfp for $200, etc.). Money sucks to lose, but with SO MANY good reviews of the 20WMGX2 I almost have to get it.

Now the question comes down to... white for $380 or black for $420...

The black NEC's are now gone from Newegg and Dell. Newegg still has the silvers.

Nnyan,

I totally agree with you on the Dell E222WFP LCD. I have this monitor and have loved it since the second I turned it on. My only gripe is the black levels. It's almost unnoticable in most games, but games like CS:Source which I've played for way too many hours, I can tell the colours aren't displaying corrently when in tunnels, dark places, etc. Other then that though it's perfect! No ghosting what so ever and with a little fine tuning it looks amazing.

Hey all,

In regards to the Dell 2407WFP-HC Ghosting, I just received this in my mail while monitoring the DELL forum:

------

What does the legal response posted on the long thread mean to you?
http://www.dellcommunity.com/s...nitor&message.id=83191

(1) There will not be another monitor revision.

(2) You may keep the monitor OR initiate a CRA (credit return authorization).

(3) If you wish to return the monitor for credit, please send an email to the following address:
2407WFP-HCMonitor@dell.com

(4) The subject line shoud read, 2407WFP-HC Ghosting CRA (credit return authorization)

(5) Provide the following information:
Name
Address
Phone number
Order number and/or Service tag number
Monitor 20 digit PPID number
Reason: I need a CRA (credit return authorization) due to the 2407WFP-HC Ghosting issue

------

Looks like Dell will do nothing about the issue.

It means that Dell will refund you if you are not happy with the monitor. They won't do anything to fix it. So your choice is between getting a refund or living with the ghosting.

I can live with this little bit of ghosting.

Hmmm... I wonder how the quality is on that Acer? If it could match the LG L226WTQ(BF) in quality, like no ghosting, then it would be one serious sweet deal.

Edit: I got a Office Depot a mile from my house. I should go check and see if they have a demo model on their LCD shelf. Eyeball it for myself and see.

I don't have one. Just thought I'd pass the info along as it seemed to come up here a lot.

I'm probably not gonna buy right away but I am considering the LG L226WA, it's basically the 2ms version of the WT. I haven't really heard anything bad about this LCD yet so I am seriously probably gonna go with this if I get a 22".

The WA actually has multimedia inputs too, as well as response time compensation.

BUT... I've been thinking of 24 inchers now... Looks like I'm getting carried away perhaps but they look tempting. Considering I can get at least $200 off whatever I buy at NCIX.com.

I'm thinking that if I go for a 24", the Samsung SyncMaster 245B might be a good choice. There's no lottery game with this Samsung, correct? I haven't seen any talk about any anyway.

The 245B is a TN, though. Consider the BenQ FP241W. I'm pretty sure NCIX was the one doing the firmware updates w/ it, and with $200 off it'll be very well priced.

Basically now I'm wondering what would be best for me and what would last the longest. I don't wanna get a 22" only to want a 24" later or get a 24" and wish I had a better one after that. Again the things I would be using it for are mostly gaming and general usage. But I like my text to be clear. Oh, and yes I do development on this computer but not extensively. I usually do that outside of my home, so it's not the most important thing. Just having nice clear and crisp text is nice for me.

So what's best for me do you think? I'm having a hard time deciding... LG L226WA or Samsung SyncMaster 245B? I can get 100$ off on the LG L226WA but I can get $200 off the 245B since it's on NCIX.com and I have a gift certificate. Or maybe I should save up for a better 24"?

And what's the difference between the 245B and the 245BW, just the glossy panel? Thanks a lot guys. LCD buying is a tricky thing.

B and BW? I think it's just a certain model name based on country, but I don't think there's any technical differences. Can't know for sure since I haven't seen reviews of both at once.

I don't think either of them has a glossy panel. Both have glossy black coating on the bezel only.

Acer X221Wsd 22" - $200 from that Sunday
Samsung 216BW 21,6" - $230, I don't know how it compares to 226BW...
ViewSonic VA2026W Black-Silver 20" - $210
Acer X191WSD 19? - $150 [that would be a really cheap solution]
V7 Series 22" - $220, never heard of them
Acer AL2216WBD 22" - $200
Hanns·G HG-216DPO Silver/Black 22" - #215, but with useless built-in speakers
Dell E228WFP - $280
LG L204WT - $220
CHIMEI CMV 221D-NBC Black 22" - $220

I don't keep up with deals too much but MonitorSource usually doesn't miss anything too good.

I can't believe I have to spend $350 (or however much the 2007wfp goes for) if I want a decent 20" panel. Shoulda risked buying the AL2051W from newegg.

That sucks. But, I wouldn't believe PR/customer service people if my life depended on it, so it's possible that model will appear in the US under a different number or manifestation. They said there would be no replacement for the AL2051W specifically, but they didn't say if Acer would have a 20.1" P-MVA in the future...so you may have some hope.

Hi all,

I am writing this to help people in the same boat I was in until today.

I bought the Samsung 245BW on Monday for under $500 CDN at a local big box store. I did like what I saw when I turned it on, text was crisp, colors where good, but the panel was overly bright right out the box. I saw a smudge inside the panel, I thought I had touched it and tried to wipe it off with a terry cloth but it didn't not come out.

Today I decided to take the 245BW back and look at a monitor that I originally wanted which was the BenQ FP241WZ (which I paid a bit over $600 CDN). I paid and extra $100 but I believe it's worth it. The screen is awesome and no dead pixels. I'm not too crazy about the "perfect motion" option. The text is crisp, the colors are great out of the box and the best parts is that there is no leaks in a black background!

A $100 dollar premium is a jump but over the lower priced Samsung but to have a near perfect screen it's worth it.

Great to hear. From what I saw at the store, Samsung 245BW (TN) vs LG L245WP (P-MVA) was no contest. The 245B had "black holes" in its screen (with regards to viewing angles) and a lack of trueness or vibrancy in its color compared to the VA screen.

I haven't heard of a single person who likes the PerfectMotion tech actually, so perhaps I was wrong in recommending the Z when it was a little more expensive. But, the Z did give you 1:1 scaling for sure. They are closer in price these days so I figure it's good to have the options.

Nothing wrong w/ the white version. The black version has only white integrated speakers but it looks weird mismatched like that. You don't notice bezels when you're using the monitor. White will be easier on your eyes too.

I don't even see black for sale here.

The BX is a business version but it seems to have lower viewing angles and I'm not all that sure that it has overdrive. I haven't seen a review on it.

Try one of the LG models in the Gaming section or the NEC GX2 series. I'll be delisting the 940BF as it hasn't been available for awhile (and probably the BenQ too).

I find that hard to believe. Perhaps they are just covering their rear ends right now but I honestly believe they will release a revision in the future that will fix the problem as they always have, maybe if just to surprise people.

I bought an Acer 19" widescreen and an AOC 19" Widescreen recently not realizing that widescreen isn't as good for programming and web surfing as a normal screen. I'm looking at selling them and purchasing regular 19" lcd screens. My college has 17" BenQ monitors and they seem pretty good on the eyes. My AOC isn't very nice on the eyes and my ACER isn't wonderful. What brands would you recommend? I'd like to spend under $250 if possible since I am a college student. I'm looking at purchasing two since I have a dual monitor configuration for my programming. Every once in a while I'll play games, but I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore gamer. Is BenQ a good brand? If so what models are decent for looking at a lot of text? What other brands would be better than Acer and AOC but not too far out of my price range? Thanks.
